Brisbane 2032 main stadium gets major funding boost from federal, state governments
The federal government is set to invest more than 3.4 billion Australian dollars ($2.23 billion) in the Games — the single largest contribution towards sporting infrastructure in Australia's history, federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King said.
'It is about ensuring that when we hand the keys back after the closing ceremony, Queensland has the infrastructure it needs to build on this incredible legacy for decades to come,' King said.
The centerpiece of Brisbane 2032 is a proposed 63,000-seat stadium at the inner-city Victoria Park. Investigative works at the site have begun with geotechnical studies and soil sampling ongoing.
Brisbane 2032 chief executive Andrew Liveris welcomed the agreement and said he hopes construction will begin at major venues by the end of 2026.
'Today marks a significant shift in forward momentum following the Queensland government's announcement in March of its 2032 Delivery Plan,' Liveris said.
The International Olympic Committee has backed the Queensland government's 2032 venue plan after several false starts, saying the Brisbane Games are 'on the right path.'
In May, Kirsty Coventry was in Brisbane for a three-day inspection visit before she took over as IOC president.

How to Break China's Minerals Dominance, One Smelter at a Time
From the top of a giant furnace, workers in breathing apparatus and high-visibility overalls peer down on a sprawling industrial plant and map out renovations. Rain lashes the rusting buildings below as strong winds threaten to rip the hard hats from their heads. It's make-or-break time for the Port Pirie smelter in South Australia, which has turned rock into lead, copper, gold and silver for more than 130 years. Once a symbol of industrial might, the plant is struggling — squeezed by high costs and competition from China that have battered the rest of the world's processing capacity.

Goldman taps new global chairman of investment banking
This story was originally published on Banking Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Banking Dive newsletter. Goldman Sachs veteran Raghav Maliah has been appointed its global chairman of investment banking, according to a staff memo seen by Banking Dive. 'As we continue to grow and unite our investment banking business across Asia Pacific, Raghav will lead our work with a broader array of clients, leveraging his deep understanding of global industries and markets to advance our franchise,' the memo said. 'Raghav is among our most seasoned and strategic bankers, and he has steered many of the firm's significant and complex client relationships for decades through his various leadership roles in Asia Pacific.' Maliah currently serves as co-head of mergers and acquisitions in Asia Pacific, as well as head of the region's technology, media and telecommunications group, excluding Japan. He took the helm of the former in September, alongside co-heads Yoshihiko Yano and Ed Wittig, Reuters reported. Maliah will retain those roles alongside his chairmanship, according to the memo. Goldman is rejigging its Asia business to get its hands on more of the region's market share, head of investment banking Asia Pacific Iain Drayton told Reuters last month. The bank is consolidating its Japan, Australia and New Zealand, and Asia ex-Japan businesses into one regional entity under Drayton. 'On an APAC basis, we're seeing some strong tailwinds at the moment — quite a contrast to the headwinds that defined the past two to three years,' Drayton said. 'Market sentiment, investor engagement, and transaction momentum are all moving in a more constructive direction,' he told the wire service. Recommended Reading Whither the investment-banking chief? WNBA Make Historic Post About Brittney Griner's Teammate on Thursday
WNBA Make Historic Post About Brittney Griner's Teammate on Thursday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Atlanta Dream's star guard, Allisha Gray, was officially named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for June on Thursday. Advertisement Gray put together one of the most consistent months of her WNBA career, averaging 18.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game, while shooting 45.1% from the field and 41.5% from deep. That run helped the Atlanta Dream go 6-4 over ten contests, pushing the team into the thick of the playoff hunt as the calendar flipped to July. Through 17 games she's up to 19.5 points, 5.4 boards and 4.1 assists per outing, leading the league in Win Shares (3.7), Offensive Win Shares (2.8) and Total Points (322), and she's the only player in the WNBA averaging 19+ points while shooting better than 40% from both the field and three. Earlier this year, Gray had already claimed the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for May. Advertisement Her back‑to‑back recognition for May and June marks the first time in franchise history that an Atlanta Dream player has won multiple monthly awards in a single season. At 30 years old, Gray's resume now boasts a 2017 Rookie of the Year trophy, three All‑Star appearances, an Olympic 3×3 gold medal from Tokyo 2020 and a historic All‑Star feat in 2024, where she won both the Skills Challenge and the Three‑Point Contest in the same night. In nine pro seasons, six with the Dallas Wings and now her third with Atlanta, she's amassed 3,716 career points, 1,216 rebounds, 652 assists and 320 steals. Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray drives on Chicago Sky forward Michaela Davis-Imagn Images Across town, the Dream have quickly transformed under first‑year head coach Karl Smesko. Advertisement After hiring him in November 2024, Atlanta revamped its frontcourt around eight-time WNBA blocks leader Brittney Griner and three-time All-Star Brionna Jones while bolstering the bench with skilled rookies like Te-Hina Paopao. As a franchise, the Dream have yet to win a championship, but they've made 10 playoff appearances and reached the WNBA Finals three times, and this season's spirited start (11-6 overall, second in Eastern Conference) shows the franchise on the rise again.
