The Guardian07-05-2025

9pm, Sky Documentaries
It has been 10 years since the awful incident of the Germanwings Flight 9525 crash in the French Alps, in which all 150 passengers and crew were killed. The French public prosecutor's office determined that the co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, who had been treated for severe depression, deliberately crashed the plane. But this is still questioned. In this documentary, experts and journalists piece together what happened. Hollie Richardson

The unstoppably lovely object makeover show is ideally suited to a VE Day commemoration, as it restores a cockpit clock, a plastic doll, an RAF cap and an autograph book. All have remarkable stories attached; the clock is brought in by a 101-year-old war veteran. Jack Seale Race Across the World

The third leg, in which our five pairs race from the island checkpoint of Sanya to Shangri-La in the foothills of the Himalayas. (Yes, you read that right: in 2001, the Chinese town of Zhongdian renamed itself after a completely mythical city.) With typhoons leaving ex-couple Yin and Gaz trailing 44 hours behind, every choice is critical. Ali Catterall Saving Lives in Cardiff
9pm, BBC Two
To be a surgeon in a busy UK hospital is to confront life-or-death decisions every day. In this edition, those decisions pertain to the most painful condition known to medicine, and a rare neuroendocrine tumour. The waiting list numbers are bleak and the risks are huge, but the results can be truly miraculous. Ellen E Jones Genius Game

Still early days for this elaborate David Tennant-fronted show where all the contestants have notably high IQs but must rely on 'social skills' (lying, mostly) to stay in the game. This week revolves around a fiendish codebreaking test, but forget trying to solve it yourself – just enjoy watching the nine remaining eggheads scrambling to survive. Graeme Virtue I, Jack Wright
9pm, U&Alibi
Unforgotten creator Chris Lang's whodunnit thriller continues with Sally (Nikki Amuka-Bird) demanding the exhumation of her ex-husband Jack (Trevor Eve). Meanwhile, police question the family members who all had a reason for bumping off the Wright patriarch after an unjust will reading. HR Live sport

Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly in King's Birthday Honours

The two TV presenters, who have fronted the series together since 2014, will be recognised in this year's list which will be revealed on Friday, The Daily Mail said. Queen Camilla, who attends Silver Swans – classes for elderly ballet dancers run by the Royal Academy of Dance – is known to tune in to BBC's Strictly Come Dancing and has described herself as one of Strictly's 'greatest fans'. Winkleman, 53, is also behind the gameshow, The Traitors, for which she took home the 2023 award for Entertainment Performance at the Baftas. (Image: Ian West/PA Wire) The London-born broadcaster formerly presented on BBC Radio Two until 2024, helming different slots and programmes on the station including the comedy quiz series Hot Gossip, the Claudia Winkleman Arts Show and Claudia On Sunday. Her co-host, Daly, 56, presented the series since it first launched in 2004 alongside the late Sir Bruce Forsyth until he stepped down from the role in 2014. During that time the model took part in the 2008 Strictly Children In Need special where she won the title with professional dancer Anton Du Beke. The recognition comes amid a turbulent year for the Strictly team with reports alleging inappropriate behaviour from contestants and professional dancers. Most recently, EastEnders star James Borthwick was suspended from the BBC after a video emerged of the actor using a disabled slur on set of the dance programme. This comes after Welsh opera singer and BBC Radio Wales presenter, Wynne Evans, said he had been dropped by the BBC, following an apology saying that he used 'inappropriate language' during the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing tour. In 2024, the BBC launched a review into professional dancer Giovanni Pernice after accusations from contestant Amanda Abbington of 'inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying' behaviour during her time on the 2023 series. Italian dancer Pernice, who 'rejected any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour', and welcomed the conclusion of a BBC review which upheld 'some, but not all' of the complaints made by the actress against him. David Beckham is expected be awarded a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours, according to reports last week, having previously been awarded an OBE in 2003.

Lola Young shares VERY racy video as she goes topless in latest post to promote her new single One Thing

Lola Young made sure all eyes were on her as she took to Instagram on Tuesday evening with a very racy video. The Messy hitmaker, 24, left little to the imagination as she went topless in the video, covering her modesty with her hand as she sat in a pair of red and white striped shorts. The singer, who is currently promoting her latest single One Thing, looked at the camera as she sang the song's lyrics: 'I wanna pull you closer/ I don't even want your number 'Don't care if you got another/ 'Cause tonight, I'm your only lover/ And I'ma give you that one thing/ I'ma give you that one thing'. At the end of the risqué video the star took her hands away from her breasts as two stars flashed up on the screen. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. She captioned the post: 'one thing …. or two'. Fans went wild for the clip as they penned: 'confidence and full glam is such a good combo on you '; 'Goddess'; 'Lola is giving gals confidence with every video! Beauty'; 'I LOVE YOU!! The artistry and lyrics are just'. It comes after Lola opened up about her sexuality after she responded to a comment on her recent TikTok video last month. Dancing and lip syncing to CMAT's track Take A Sexy Picture Of Me, viewers headed straight to the comments to share their love for the star. While one fan joked: 'no man deserves this' Lola unexpectedly replied as she confirmed she does not identify as straight writing: 'i like p***y as well u kno' [sic]. CMAT also loved the tribute to her song as she replied with a series of crying emojis and penned: 'i love u so much this is the best day of my life. ur so fit'. The lyrics of CMAT's new song go 'I did the butcher, I did the baker / I did the home and the family maker / I did schoolgirl fantasies / Oh, I did leg things and hand stuff / And single woman banter / Now tell me, what was in it for me?'. Fans went wild for the clip as they penned: 'confidence and full glam is such a good combo on you ' Lola, who is a Brit School alum, has soared to stardom this year after she went viral with her hit song Messy and was even nominated for two BRIT Awards. And last month the star took to social media to promote her ADHD medicine, Concerta, because it makes her 'see mess now and clean things up'. Lola highlighted that there was an 'over glamorisation' of the hyperactivity disorder which has broken out among Gen Z with many 'jumping on the bandwagon'. But, she argued, the glorification of ADHD in recent years has also helped break down the stigma and made sure 'people are aware of what it's doing to your brain'. The Croydon-born pop singer said: 'Six months ago I started taking Concerta and it has genuinely changed my life, my thought processing and it's changed how I see mess and I can clear up, I feel genuinely a lot happier. 'My experience on Concerta has been incredible, and I would highly recommend it. I think it's super important to break down the stigma of taking medication for mental health because, right now, if you had a heart condition, you may take some. 'So we should make sure physical health and mental health are viewed on par.'
