BBC gears up for stellar summer of women's sport
Women's sport is set to take centre stage this summer with a stellar line-up of major events.
The Women's Euros, Women's Rugby World Cup and World Athletics Championships will be live across the BBC alongside Wimbledon, The Hundred cricket tournament and the tennis at Queen's, where women will compete for the first time in more than 50 years.
To mark the start of a special sporting summer, BBC Sport is launching 'Names Will Be Made', a campaign that will champion sportswomen as we tell stories of resilience, passion and triumph.
Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said: "The BBC has a strong legacy in championing women's sport and telling their stories to audiences.
"No sidelines. No second billing. This summer is packed with top-tier women's competitions."
Queen's (9-15 June): Tennis kick-starts BBC Sport's summer schedule. For the first time in more than 50 years women are competing at the historic Queen's Club in London. The grass court season continues throughout June and July with Nottingham, Eastbourne and Wimbledon, all live across the BBC.
Women's Euros (2-27 July): All eyes will be on the Lionesses as they set out to retain their title as European champions in Switzerland from 2 July. Wales have also qualified for the Women's Euros, their first ever major tournament. Follow the tournament live across the BBC.
The Hundred (5-31 August): There will be live coverage of the annual cricket competition of eight double headers, featuring both women's and men's matches, including the opening matches and finals.
Women's Rugby World Cup (22 August-27 September): All four home nations are competing and, off the back of clinching the Women's Six Nations, England's Red Roses will be hoping to secure the trophy in front of home fans. Every single second will be live exclusively across the BBC.
World Athletics Championships (13-21 September) Tokyo is hosting the showcase where the best women in the world across track and field will compete, all live on the BBC.

Chris asked what Nedum's former club Sunderland can do to strengthen for the challenges of the Premier League next season after securing promotion. Advertisement That is a tough question. I would say they need to find people with good Premier League experience that also understand what it takes to galvanise a group to take on a challenge that most of those guys have not experienced before - and can do it as significant underdogs on a week-to-week basis. If you bring somebody in who expects to be successful straight away then some of the tougher times might affect the mood. You need someone with experience who is realistic and can also be part of a team build. You do not want to go into the Premier League and just figure it out as you go along. You want to have a plan and to build. It seems like the manager has got a lot of belief in them by finally getting back up there, plus some of the players already there could potentially do well in the top flight. Advertisement Sunderland need to find players who will complement that, not ones who are going to be doing things for themselves if things start to go sour because, in reality and as it stands, people do not expect them to win a lot of games. They are going to have to be fighting their way through on a week-to-week basis. I have heard links with Jordan Henderson coming back. I do not know if he will, but if somebody with that much Premier League experience would want to be part of a transition period for the club - and he is also in one himself - then that would be great. That is part of what you need - somebody who will understand the area, understand the fanbase and understand the club. Not somebody who just sees a chance to go and play in the Premier League. Advertisement If you fail to find the right mix then it will be a real split in terms of those who have come up with the side and those who arrive. If Sunderland do not get experience and understanding then they will be in a terrible position in a year's time - probably heading back to the Championship but this time without that cohesive feeling they had just a few weeks ago. Woakes has only recently returned from a long-term ankle injury and has been playing for England's second-string Lions against India A. Carse also missed the match against Zimbabwe while he fully recovered from a toe injury sustained while playing in the Champions Trophy in February, but is set to return. Meanwhile, Jamie Overton, a bowling allrounder, has been picked despite breaking his right little finger during a one-day international against the West Indies on May 29 and is back in the test squad for the first time since June 2022 when he earned his sole cap against New Zealand. That was at Headingley, where England and India will begin their highly anticipated five-match series. Also in the 14-man squad is rising star batter Jacob Bethell, who didn't return home from the Indian Premier League to play against Zimbabwe but has been playing in the ODIs against the Windies. It looks to be a straight shootout between Bethell and Ollie Pope to bat at No. 3, but Pope has the edge given he is vice captain and scored a big century against the Zimbabweans.
