Australia back Charlotte Caslick has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup after failing to recover from ankle surgery.Caslick, 30, sustained the injury in last month's defeat by New Zealand but was hoping to be back in time for Australia's opening game against Samoa on 23 August. The Olympic gold medallist and Sevens World Cup winner switched to 15-a-side this year to represent the Wallaroos at this year's tournament in England."In sport sometimes the toughest opponent is time," Caslick wrote on Instagram.
"I'm proud of the challenge I took on converting to 15s and I feel like I grew not only on the field as a footy player but off it as well. "I couldn't be more proud to be able to call myself a Wallaroo and I'll be cheering the girls on from home loudly over the next month. Some endings aren't fair but they still come."Uncapped 18-year-old Manua Moleka has been called up by head coach Jo Yapp to replace Caslick.Yapp hasn't completely closed the door on Caslick featuring and said she could join up with the squad "at the end of the pool stage or the quarter-final" if an injury were to occur. The World Cup begins on 22 August with the final to take place at Twickenham on 27 September.

Liam Livingstone inspires Birmingham Phoenix to victory over Oval Invincibles

Liam Livingstone was at his buccaneering best as Birmingham Phoenix claimed their first win of The Hundred this year, overcoming defending champions Oval Invincibles by four wickets. Dropped from England's white-ball sides this year, Livingstone delivered a reminder of his enduring class with 69 not out off 27 balls at Edgbaston, including an astonishing takedown of Rashid Khan. Livingstone thumped 26, including three of his five sixes, in Khan's final set, with the vaunted Afghanistan leg-spinner's nought for 59 the worst figures ever recorded in the men's competition. Saqib Mahmood took two wickets in two balls to set up a grandstand finale, but Benny Howell drove for four first up to settle a high-scoring thriller as a pursuit of 181 was reeled in with two deliveries to spare. As well as a special innings from captain Livingstone, Birmingham, who started their campaign by losing to Trent Rockets and Southern Brave, were grateful for 51 from Will Smeed, although England pair Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell were dismissed for single figures as their quiet tournaments continued. The Invincibles, who lost for the first time this year after two successive wins, recovered from 114 for five from 73 balls to get to 180 for eight thanks to Donovan Ferreira's 63 off 29 deliveries. Earlier, Alice Capsey rediscovered some fluency on the big stage as the Invincibles posted their highest women's total en route to their first win of 2025 after downing the Phoenix by 22 runs. Former Australia captain Meg Lanning swiped 36 off 19 balls in a 76-run opening stand with Invincibles skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (33), laying the foundations for Capsey to capitalise on the fine start. She has struggled for England in the past 12 months, but the 21-year-old's 52 off 29 deliveries was an uplifting return to form in the tournament where she first made a name for herself, aged 16, in 2021. Paige Scholfield added 25 not out off 16 balls as the Invincibles, who began their campaign with losses to London Spirit and Manchester Originals, reached 174 for five, the third best women's score ever. Amanda-Jade Wellington, out for a golden duck, took centre stage in the reply, following up a juggling catch to dismiss Georgia Voll (22) with a no-look underarm back flick to run out Emma Lamb (25). In between the Australian's leg spin did for Marie Kelly and Ellyse Perry, who was looking dangerous on 29 before feathering behind, as the Phoenix charge finished on 152 for six.

Premier League clubs are raking in record £600m from kit deals this season – where does your club rank?

PREMIER League clubs are raking in a record £600million from kit deals this season. The 20 top-flight clubs negotiated an additional £65million from shirt producers on top of last season's deals. Most of the total — £563million — is going to the ten biggest clubs. Manchester City and Liverpool will both get £100million from their tie-ups with Puma and Adidas respectively. They have overtaken Manchester United after the Red Devils finished 15th last year and failed to get a trophy. The kit deals are separate from the huge amounts paid by sponsors, who can now pay extra to have their logos on sleeves as well as their names emblazoned on the front of the shirt. The most popular maker is the German sportswear giant adidas, which has kit deals with eight Premier League clubs. The Leeds deal is worth £5million a year while fellow Premier League new boys Burnley have a £1million agreement with Castore. Sunderland, who won promotion through the play-offs, get the least, with a £500,000 deal with Hummel. Liverpool signed a five-year contract with adidas after switching from Nike. Adidas will give the Reds a flat fee of £30million per season, plus royalties of 20 per cent on all net sales of club merchandise. Forest Green Rovers Unveil World's First Fully Vegan Football Kit & Launch Mental Health Initiative Experts say this will lift their kit earnings to an estimated £100million. Meanwhile Aston Villa announced their first ever deal with adidas last year as Unai Emery's team secured Champions League football. They ended their deal with Castore prematurely after complaints from players that the fabric 'soaked up too much sweat'. 2 2
