The New Aston Martin Vanquish Volante Is the World's Fastest Front-Engine Convertible
Aston Martin's third-generation Vanquish debuted last year to respectful reviews. The convertible version, called the Vanquish Volante and revealed this week, is on track for perhaps more than that.
For starters, the Vanquish Volante, Aston says, is the fastest and most powerful front-engine convertible in the world with a top speed of 214 mph and a V-12 making 823 horsepower. Aston says the Vanquish Volante is also the 'most powerful open-top series production Aston Martin to date,' and that the car is the 'very pinnacle of ultra-luxury high performance.'

The new Vanquish Volante occupies a pretty specific niche, in other words: an ultra-luxury car that aspires to compete with Rolls-Royce and Bentley and a motor that wants to compete with Lamborghini and Ferrari. Performance has always been an emphasis for Aston Martin and, equally, luxury, too. With the new Vanquish Volante, Aston wants to double down on both. The new Vanquish Volante represents exclusivity, too, with fewer than 1,000 Vanquishes planned for production annually, including the Volante convertible versions.
Both the coupe and the convertible share that V-12 engine, which can get to 62 mph in 3.3 seconds in the coupe and 3.4 seconds in the convertible Volante, probably because the Volante is 209 pounds heavier than the coupe. The Vanquish Volante can put its roof down in 14 seconds and close it in 16 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph. This can be done with the key fob as well. Aston also claims that the thermal insulation with the roof closed is similar to that with the Vanquish coupe.
On the inside, Aston didn't change much compared to the Vanquish coupe, and, indeed, with the new Vanquish Volante Aston wants to emphasize everything else: the big power, but also its elegant exterior proportions.
Aston did not release a price for the new Vanquish Volante, but the coupe version starts at $432,700, so you can expect the Vanquish Volante to be around half a million dollars. Deliveries of the new Vanquish Volante are expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.Best of Robb Report

Lance Stroll cleared to race at Canadian GP after ‘successful medical procedure'
MONTREAL (AP) — Lance Stroll has been cleared to race at the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend after missing the Spanish GP because of pain in his hand and wrist, Formula 1 team Aston Martin said Wednesday. 'I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend,' the Montreal native said in a statement released by his team. 'I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd.' Aston Martin said Stroll underwent a 'successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms' and that he completed some laps in France this week in an old F1 car. 'I'm feeling good after my procedure and put some laps in at Paul Ricard this week to prepare,' the 26-year-old Stroll said. The team did not specify which hand was hurting Stroll. It previously said that he had been experiencing pain for six weeks and that doctors believed the problem was related to a medical procedure he underwent in 2023 following a cycling accident to treat fractures and a broken toe. Stroll has scored 14 points this season while teammate Fernando Alonso has struggled, earning just 2 points. Aston Martin was not allowed to replace Stroll in Spain since he had qualified for the race. ___ AP auto racing:

Stroll fit to return for Canadian GP
Lance Stroll will be fit to race at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix after missing the last race in Spain with injury, his Aston Martin team have said. The 26-year-old Canadian pulled out of the Spanish Grand Prix after experiencing pain in his hands, which the team said was the legacy of an operation after a cycling accident in February 2023. Advertisement The team said in a statement: "Lance had a successful medical procedure to resolve the symptoms he has been experiencing and completed some laps in an old F1 car at Paul Ricard earlier this week. "Lance is feeling fit and healthy, and is excited to compete in front of his home crowd." Stroll was quoted saying: "I am excited to get back behind the wheel with the team for my home Grand Prix this weekend. I was always going to fight hard to be ready to race in front of the Montreal crowd. I'm feeling good after my procedure." Aston Martin announced Stroll's withdrawal in Spain late on Saturday evening. The following morning it emerged that he had lost his temper in the team's garage after he was knocked out of qualifying after the second session, in which he was more than 0.5 seconds slower than team-mate Fernando Alonso. Advertisement Drivers are required to head straight to the FIA garage to be weighed after qualifying, which Stroll did not do until later. He was given a warning by stewards for his misdemeanour. Stewards said after investigating the incident that Stroll had written them a letter and "explained that the reason for failing to immediately attend the weighing was because he was in pain and sought urgent medical attention for the pain. "He attended the weigh-in and the media pen as soon as he was able to, before heading to the medical centre for further evaluation."
