MCMC and Health Ministry team up to deliver e-health services via rural Nadi centres, says Fahmi
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that MCMC and MOH are exploring several digital health initiatives, including telehealth services and the use of drone technology to deliver medications from selected NADI centres to nearby health clinics, depending on location suitability.
'This collaboration has begun here, and we aim to expand it to all NADI centres across the country. Our goal is to provide telehealth services to help ease the burden on people living in remote areas.
'With high-speed internet available at NADI centres, these e-health services can be delivered efficiently through the NADI-health clinic network. This will allow patients to undergo health screenings without physically visiting the clinics.'
Fahmi said this to reporters after attending the Community Engagement Day at NADI Kampung Langkuas Kinarut near here today, which was also attended by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and MOH secretary-general Datuk Seri Suriani Ahmad.
Elaborating on the initiative, Fahmi noted that the use of drone technology for medication delivery to rural health clinics is still in its pilot phase.
'A few months ago, the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) witnessed a drone-based medicine delivery demonstration at a NADI centre in Tawau.
'Going forward, we will hold discussions to map out the connectivity between NADI centres and health clinics. This process may be complex as it involves coordination with multiple agencies, especially concerning drone operations,' he said.
Fahmi stressed that internet speed is key to making the initiative successful, alongside close cooperation between the Ministry of Communications, MCMC, and MOH.
'Some NADI centres still operate at 100 Mbps, while others have reached up to 1 Gbps. We aim to further improve these speeds. Also, there needs to be joint training sessions between MOH and NADI managers to ensure the effective delivery of telehealth services,' he noted.
Fahmi added that the initial focus would be on rural areas, where the impact of such services would be most significant, especially in Sabah and Sarawak, with further discussions to determine which NADI and clinics would be included.
Meanwhile, Dzulkefly expressed support for the initiative, saying it would enhance access to healthcare in rural communities through selected NADI centres.
'This collaboration will bring healthcare services closer to the people. It is a timely move, as community centres like NADI can also provide health-related services such as managing communicable and chronic diseases in these areas.
'Patients will no longer need to visit health clinics to access basic healthcare, as they can do so directly through telehealth services available at their local NADI centres,' he added. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — The Strategic Framework and Care Action Plan in Malaysia 2026-2030, currently being developed by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM), is now in its final stage of preparation. She was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (PH-Gombak), who asked the ministry to state the number of informal workers registered in the care economy sector and the ministry's policies and preparations to address an ageing population. Commenting on the number of informal workers in the care economy sector, Nancy said currently, no official data has been collected on care services provided by either formal or informal carers in the country. However, she said data collection on care services will be one of the core components of the Strategic Framework and Care Action Plan 2026-2030. 'For the record, to date, KPWKM has recorded a total of 6,744 individuals who hold the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) in Care and Community Services, while another 43,869 individuals possess professional skills in child care. 'These individuals have the skills and qualifications to offer formal care services,' she said. Meanwhile, Nancy said the official data available that can be used to identify informal caregivers is based on recipients of monthly assistance provided by the Social Welfare Department (JKM). 'The government, through JKM, provides monthly welfare assistance to ease the burden of individuals caring for bedridden or critically ill family members under the Bedridden Patient Assistance scheme. Malaysia's first standalone dental specialist centre completed in Seremban at RM32m, opening next month
SEREMBAN, Aug 7 — Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced the completion of the country's first dental specialist centre here today. The centre, located on a 0.809-hectaresite next to the Seremban Health Clinic along Jalan Rasah here started construction on March 30, 2021 and was completed on April 15 by the Public Works Department (JKR) at a cost of RM32 million. 'The centre will begin operation next month and will offer specialist clinics (Orthodontics, Periodontics, Restorative Surgery, Public Dental Health), diagnostics and imaging services,' he said at the handover of the project to the Health Ministry (MOH) today, attended by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, state JKR director Datuk Ir Wan Hasnan Wan Musa and MOH Senior Undersecretary (Development) Datin Paduka Roslinah Md Jani. He also said that the Public Works Ministry, under the JKR, specifically the Occupational Health Branch will implement 167 health facility projects in the country, costing RM18.05 billion, out of which 60 projects worth RM5.54 billion are in planning phase, 63 projects worth RM7.37 billion in construction phase and 44 projects costing RM5.14 billion in post construction phase. Meanwhile, Roslinah said during her speech at the handover that the centre was the first new facility in the country to offer non-hospital-based dental specialist services and would function as a one-stop centre for such services in the Central Zone (Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya and Melaka). 'The setting up of the centre will provide access to comprehensive dental specialist services for specialist referral cases from other dental health facilities in the areas involved, including from private dental clinics. 'The waiting period for patients and time between appointments can be reduced significantly with this centre from two months to only two or three weeks,' she said. On July 23, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government would expedite the hiring of 4,352 healthcare personnel, including contract doctors, to meet the shortage in the public healthcare sector.
