NTPC Launches 6th Edition Of Girl Empowerment Mission

NDTVa day ago

NTPC Limited, India's largest power utility, has launched the 6th edition of its flagship Corporate Social Responsibility programme, Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM-2025). This year, the summer workshop is being conducted across 41 NTPC power stations in 17 states, aiming to empower over 2,600 girls from underprivileged communities living near these plants.
The initiative supports the government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign and focuses on providing girls with opportunities for overall development. At the end of the programme, around 10 per cent of participants will be enrolled in NTPC-run schools, where they will receive support for continuing their high school education.
GEM is a residential, month-long programme held during the summer holidays. It offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes academic subjects such as Hindi or the local language, English, Mathematics, and Environmental Science. Participants also receive practical training in English communication, computer basics, health and hygiene, safety, yoga, fitness, dance, theatre, sports, and public speaking.
The programme also includes industrial visits to NTPC facilities, giving the girls exposure to real workplaces and career opportunities. Motivational lectures by speakers are also conducted.
Since it began as a pilot in 2018 with 392 girls at three locations, GEM has grown into a major national initiative, benefiting over 12,700 girls so far. The mission is to help girls develop essential life skills and create a supportive environment where they can thrive.
Many past participants have reported increased confidence, independence, and a strong "can-do" attitude after attending the programme. GEM helps them discover their interests and develop skills to face future challenges.
NTPC Limited (formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) is India's largest integrated power company. It is a government-owned enterprise under the Ministry of Power, responsible for generating electricity and running power plants across the country. NTPC produces electricity primarily through thermal power plants (using coal, gas, and other fuels), but it is also expanding into renewable energy sources like solar and hydro power.
Through GEM, NTPC aims to empower young girls with the motivation and capabilities to become leaders who will positively impact their families, communities, and the nation as a whole.

Chennai: Anna University is planning to increase intake in BE civil engineering (Tamil medium) offered at College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG) from 30 seats to 60 seats from the 2025-26 academic year. On a pilot basis, the state govt launched two Tamil medium engineering programmes in civil and mechanical engineering at CEG in 2010. These Tamil medium courses have been attracting top rankers as they provide an opportunity to study engineering on one of the premier campuses. The cut-off for Tamil medium course was around 186 out of 200 marks. "We are planning to expand our civil engineering programmes. As a first step, we are increasing intake in Tamil medium course this year," said professor S Kanmani, head, department of civil engineering, CEG. Students will study the course in Tamil and can write the exam in Tamil or English. Professors said many graduates from the Tamil medium course got jobs in public works department (PWD) due to the reservation for Tamil medium students. There was a court ruling that only those who studied from Class VI could avail of this reservation. Now, it is settled that studying a Tamil medium engineering course is enough to avail of this reservation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 오스템 임플란트 받아가세요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo The department is planning to increase its intake in the civil engineering English medium course in the next academic year. Story of a 17-year-old: From discontinuing studies to later clearing SSLC

Mysuru: Here's a touching narrative of resilience and determination. A student from the city discontinued formal schooling in Class VI, yet four years later achieved first-class results in the 2024-25 SSLC examination as a private candidate. Subsequently, a pre-university college offered comprehensive support to make his dream of pursuing higher education, including free education, uniform, meals, transport, and specialised coaching in CA foundation, AI, and additional skills. This chronicles 17-year-old Rushil's journey. His family's separation during his Class III led to his relocation to Bengaluru with his father, where he enrolled in a public school. Financial constraints forced him to leave after completing Class VI, without obtaining a transfer certificate. He returned to Mysuru to live with his mother at his grandfather's residence. Despite attempts to secure admission in a Mysuru private school, the absence of documentation and substantial fees were barriers. In May 2022, his grandfather contacted Kaliyuva Mane, a free residential alternative school in Kenchalagudu. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Based on the affidavit submitted by his mother, Rushil qualified to appear for the SSLC examination as a private candidate.
