Vietnam's deputy PM calls for clear vision for marine economy growth
Vietnamese deputy prime minister Tran Hong Ha recently called for a clear vision on how to grow the marine economy in a sustainable manner, with an effective inter-sectoral, inter-regional and international coordination mechanism.
Such a mechanism forms the foundation for integrated resource management, conflict resolution and optimal decision-making among competing marine sectors, he noted.
Vietnamese deputy PM Tran Hong Ha has called for a clear vision on how to sustainably grow the marine economy, with a decentralised inter-sectoral, inter-regional and international coordination mechanism. He asked the agriculture and environment ministry to take the lead in this direction. Criteria like environmental efficiency, economic viability and job creation should be the priority, he noted.
He was addressing a meeting with ministries and agencies on inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms for the sustainable development of the country's maritime sector.
The coordination mechanism must follow the principle of decentralisation, only issues that truly require central-level coordination should be retained at the national level, with the rest delegated to local bodies, he was cited as saying by domestic media outlet.
He asked the ministry of agriculture and environment (MoAE) to take the lead in this direction. Criteria like environmental efficiency, economic viability and job creation should be the priority, he noted.
The ministry was tasked with developing decision-support tools for analysing and handling inter-sectoral conflicts, and establishing a coordination mechanism for marine environmental surveys and resource assessments to support the implementation of marine economic strategies and plans.
It was also urged to urgently review and finalise the operating regulations and scope of the National Steering Committee for the Implementation of the Strategy for Sustainable Marine Economic Development.
Of the 169 projects and tasks assigned by the government to ministries and 28 coastal provinces and cities, only 35 are currently under way. This has affected the overall progress and objectives of the national marine strategy.

The EV maker is targeting a market entry ahead of the upcoming festive season. Global Assure, known for its deep expertise in vehicle support services and strong nationwide presence, will play a key role in ensuring efficient and high-quality service for VinFast customers. 'Our understanding of Indian consumer expectations and our pan-India operational network will ensure timely and effective support,' said Manish Vijay, Co-founder and CEO of Global Assure. VinFast has committed an investment of USD 500 million to establish a manufacturing facility in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The plant is expected to be operational by early H2 2025 and will play a central role in the company's ambition to produce up to 1.5 lakh EVs annually. Apart from catering to domestic demand, the company also plans to export vehicles to the Middle East and Africa from its Indian base. VinFast's entry is expected to intensify competition in India's rapidly growing electric vehicle segment, especially in the premium mid-size SUV space.

China's online exports surge past $278.59 bn in 2024
China's cross-border e-commerce exports have surpassed 2 trillion yuan in 2024—around $278.59 billion—marking a new milestone, according to the General Administration of Customs (GAC). Exports rose 16.9 per cent year on year (YoY) to 2.15 trillion yuan, pushing total cross-border trade volume to 2.71 trillion yuan. The US remained China's top e-commerce export destination, accounting for 36.2 per cent of total shipments, followed by the UK (11.7 per cent) and Germany (5.7 per cent). On the import side, US goods led with a 15.8 per cent share, while Japan and Germany contributed 10.5 per cent and 9.8 per cent, respectively, a state-controlled media outlet reported. Consumer goods dominated exports, making up 97.5 per cent of the total. GAC official Cai Junwei, speaking at the 2025 China Langfang International Economic and Trade Fair, highlighted the sector's role in overcoming traditional trade barriers and supporting market expansion amid global economic uncertainty. VietJet signs agreement with Airbus to purchase up to 150 aircraft
Airbus struck a deal on Tuesday to sell up to 150 single-aisle aircraft to Vietnamese budget airline VietJet, as the European planemaker continues to rack up business at the Paris Airshow. The companies said they had signed a memorandum of understanding for VietJet to buy 100 more A321neo planes, with the option to add up to a further 50 to the deal in future. The agreement confirmed an earlier Reuters story. A deal for 150 A321neos could be worth around $9.4 billion, according to estimated prices provided by Cirium Ascend. "These modern and efficient aircraft have been instrumental in VietJet's growth," VietJet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao said in a statement released at a press conference attended by a delegation including several Western bankers. "This landmark agreement represents a vital step in VietJet's growth strategy as a multi-national aviation group." The planes will be delivered from 2030 onwards, and VietJet said it had financing in place for the deal. European planemaker Airbus has announced a flurry of deals at the Paris Airshow, the world's biggest aviation trade fair that opened on Monday. U.S. rival Boeing is expected to have a more subdued show as it focuses on the probe into last week's fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787 and after it racked up huge deals during U.S. President Donald Trump's recent tour of the Middle East. VietJet, the largest private airline in Vietnam, operates an all-Airbus fleet, apart from two Chinese-made regional jets. The airline has not to date taken delivery of any of the around 200 MAX planes it has ordered from Boeing. Airbus is the main supplier of jets to Vietnam, accounting for 86% of the planes currently operated by Vietnamese airlines. However, the export-dependent Southeast Asian country is under pressure from Washington to buy more U.S. goods.
