Outdoor tidal swimming pool could get go-ahead in Scarborough

The site at Children's Corner, which is located just south of the busy town centre beach and adjacent to the historic Scarborough Spa, was agreed as the preferred location by the Scarborough Sea Swimming Community Interest Company (CIC) andcouncil officers.A feasibility study was also presented to councillors, while campaigners who had initiated the project looked on from the public gallery above, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.The study was commissioned by North Yorkshire Council and was completed by outdoor swimming specialists and architects Studio Octopi.Other committee members, including councillors Heather Phillips, Liz Colling and Roberta Swiers, also spoke in favour of the plan.
According to All the Lidos, there are five other public outdoor swimming pools in Yorkshire, including Alpamare Waterpark in Scarborough's North Bay area.The feasibility study recommended the submission of a pre-planning application, "given the unique and rare nature of tidal pool projects".The Scarborough Sea Swimming CIC will now work through the next stages of development, but the committee said it was eager to assist the group if it could.

Phil Parkinson says Wrexham have been forced to spend heavily to compete in the Championship after smashing their transfer record to sign Nathan Broadhead. Wales striker Broadhead joined from Ipswich on Thursday in a reported deal worth up to £10million, although Parkinson quipped Wrexham would have 'to get in the Premier League and win the Champions League' for the fee to reach that figure. 'We've always been playing catch up, even in the National League we were behind a lot of clubs development-wise – the structure, academy, players coming through. 'We had to improve the standard and that filters down. The structure behind the first team has become stronger with the formation of the academy a couple of years ago. 'We've come into this division very quickly and it's important we've brought in Championship standard players to help us on this journey. Also, to help the existing players who have do so well over the last few years.' The addition of Bangor-born Broadhead, who was in the Wrexham youth system before joining Everton at the age of 10, is the biggest statement yet the Red Dragons have made in the transfer market under their Hollywood owners. The 27-year-old has won 14 Wales caps and made 18 Premier League appearances for Ipswich last term in a season disrupted by injuries. Parkinson said: 'We've been looking at Nathan throughout the summer. 'A fee had been agreed with Ipswich for quite a long time, but they wanted to bring a player in so we had to be patient. 'He's got that Championship pedigree and the ability to create something in tight situations. 'You need players to unlock the door and create moments in games, and Nathan's got that. 'The story of him coming back home is a great one as well. He was at a great club at Ipswich but he has shown a real desire to come and play for us.' Wrexham lost their Championship opener at Southampton 2-1 last weekend, with two late Saints goals condemning them to painful defeat. Summer signing Kieffer Moore was forced off with ankle ligament damage in the second half but Parkinson provided a positive fitness update on the Wales targetman, although no date has been given for his return. He said: 'Kieffer's not as bad as we feared. With a ligament injury like that you always fear it's going to be something worse. 'But it's not a serious injury and he's making great progress.'

Benjamin Sesko primed for Man United debut against Arsenal: ‘He is ready'
Ruben Amorim has declared that Benjamin Sesko is ready to make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal but has warned his new £200m strike force that they face a fight for their places in his revamped team. Sesko completed his £66.5m move from RB Leipzig on Saturday but arrived too late to feature in any of United's pre-season games. Amorim could unleash his new attack of the Slovenian, the £62.5m buy Matheus Cunha and the £71m arrival Bryan Mbeumo on Sunday, but warned that he has other options for spots in his front three. 'First of all, we have more than three so they are fighting for the places,' he said. But Amorim has been impressed by the work Slovenia international Sesko has done to get himself in contention. 'We didn't have a lot of time but he is ready,' he added. 'First of all, physically he is ready. That is a big component in our league. Then he is really smart, every detail that he is ask, he is a guy that is always thinking. He spends a lot of afternoons here working on his fitness. He is ready to play, we will see if he is going to start.' Amorim said he was delighted to sign Sesko and admitted that his fee, which could rise to £73.7m, is large but said he wanted a player who could spend a long time at Old Trafford.
