Davenport man arrested; charged with burglary, pointed firearm at 12-year-old
A man from Davenport is in the Scott County Jail after police say he pointed a firearm at a 12-year-old boy while he and an accomplice robbed a home.
The criminal complaints say Davenport Police responded to the 5300 block of N. Linwood Avenue on May 27 at about 1:30 p.m. regarding a burglary. A 12-year-old boy was at the address at the time.
The boy told police that two masked people entered the home without permission and pointed a firearm at him. The suspects took several items from the residence, including a TV, PS4 gaming console, the boy's iPhone 13 and other items. The boy said the suspect with the firearm demanded his phone; he was asked for his passcode to his phone but did not provide it.
After further investigation, the defendant, identified as Joshua Luten Jr., was identified by witnesses. Luten told police in a post-Miranda interview that he entered the boy's home without permission and brandished a firearm when the boy startled him. Luten allegedly told the boy to go downstairs while they continued to steal the items from the home.
Luten was arrested and charged with first degree burglary, first degree robbery, felon in possession of a firearm, controlled substance violation, failure to affix a drug tax stamp and a probation violation. He is also being held on a Rock Island County detainer on a charge of driving on a suspended license. He's being held in the Scott County Jail and has a preliminary hearing on June 6.

'They killed him and left him in the neighbor's yard', Augusta event calls for unity in face of gun violence
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month and it is to raise awareness for gun violence in the United States. Phyllis Jackson knows first-hand about gun violence. In 2019 Jackson's 22-year-old son was shot and killed. 'My son, Gerald Waldon, was killed here in Augusta, he befriended an individual at work. And that individual, along with three others, came to came to the house, lured my son out of the home, and literally within the same neighborhood, they had planned to kill him. And they did just that. They killed him and left him in the neighbor's yard.' Ever since that tragic event, Jackson has been helping to raise awareness about the danger of guns. RELATED STORY: Witnesses talk about man killed in Walton Acres 'Kids are supposed to be able to be kids. Teenagers are supposed to be able to be teenagers. We can't afford to allow our kids to continue to go to the schools, go to malls, go to the grocery stores and have to worry if our child is going to come home. It's vitally important that we do something about it as a community. And if we're voting someone in in that position that we hold them accountable to do the same.' She hopes the community will come to an event Friday night. An 'Evening of Remembrance and Call to Action' will be held in downtown Augusta. 'This event will show everyone that the community stands together in hard times and good times. And in this event, we are remembering those that have been lost to gun violence. And we want to show those that are affected indirectly that you have a part to play in the rebuilding and standing together as one.' Documents detail hit-and-run crash that killed Las Vegas man
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – An arrest report obtained by 8 News Now details what led up to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 33-year-old man in the northwest valley. Officers took 63-year-old Karen Cannon into custody Wednesday in connection with the case. She was released on a $150,000 bail a day later. Loved ones remember man killed in west Las Vegas valley hit-and-run crash 33-year-old Patrick Deloriea died on May 13 when a Tesla hit him and left the scene at the intersection of Vegas Drive and Rainbow Boulevard, according to police. 'He's going to be missed you know?' Deloriea's friend Robert Drysdale told 8 News Now after he died. 'I think everyone is pretty upset over this loss.' Police determined a Tesla Model Y registered to Cannon hit Deloriea going 66 miles per hour, causing him to fly approximately 155 feet into the air. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station and debris at the scene helped detectives determine the car involved, according to documents. Cannon reportedly took the car to two different repair shops and paid cash, refusing to file an insurance claim, according to police. Documents said she claimed she hit an animal and something resembling a coyote, and claimed she didn't see anything in the road after the collision, though she felt a 'hard blow' to her car and felt it shake upon impact. A week after the crash, Cannon called her insurance company and said she did not know what she hit and wasn't sure what to do and things weren't 'as simple as she thought,' according to the arrest report. Once officers seized the car they weren't able to find any videos from 2025 saved in its software and a camera was removed from its front fender. Cannon now faces one count of reckless driving resulting in death, failure to stop at the scene of a crash, and destroying and concealing evidence.
