At least 30 dead in Beijing after days of heavy rain
More than 80,000 people have been relocated in the Chinese capital, with dozens of roads damaged and electricity cut off for 136 villages, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping has instructed officials to make every effort to search and rescue those still missing, properly settle the relocated and made every effort to reduce casualties.

New Delhi - At least four people were killed and 50 more were missing after massive flash floods and a landslide in the hilly north Indian state of Uttarakhand swept away dozens of homes Tuesday. The flash floods were triggered by a cloudburst in the state's Uttarkashi district, sweeping through the village of Dharali, a popular tourist destination dotted with hotels and restaurants. Indian news outlets broadcast videos showing a massive wave of water gushing through the area, sweeping away houses and cars along the path. Teams from the local police, the national disaster response force and the army were involved in search and rescue operations. The four deaths were confirmed by Uttarkashi magistrate Prashant Arya, but he told reporters that crews were still assessing the extent of the damage. Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters that people were being evacuated to safer places and the situation is being constantly monitored. The local police posted pictures of the deluge and destruction on social platform X and warned people to stay away from the river. India's Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall across the state until Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the families of victims and said, "No stone is being left unturned in providing assistance to the people." Extreme weather events like flash floods and landslides are not uncommon in India's ecologically sensitive Himalayan region, which scientists have linked to climate change. In 2023, a flash flood in the country's northeast killed at least 47 people.

Air quality alerts in place for 10 states as wildfires burn in Canada and West
Red flag warnings remain in place for parts of Nevada, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming due to very dry conditions, low humidity and gusty winds and fires in these areas may undergo rapid development as new fires could begin quickly. This comes as 741 wildfires continue to burn in Canada, with 304 labeled 'out of control' and fires have burned more than 16 million acres in Canada this year -- more than double their 10-year average to date. This is already the third most destructive year for wildfires in Canada by acres burned since records began in 1983. In fact, with only 1 million more acres needed to reach the number two spot, it is almost inevitable at this point that 2025 will likely be second on the list for most acres burned by wildfires in Canada since recording began, with first place being 2023 when more than 42 million acres burned. Meanwhile, these western wildfires are creating smokey skies for millions, from Los Angeles to San Diego and to Las Vegas. Air quality alerts are now in place for 10 states from Minnesota to Connecticut and, on Tuesday afternoon, Boston is expected to see a nice break from the smoke thanks to onshore winds keeping smoke inland as Detroit and New York City may catch more of a break due to winds from the east as well. Smoke will be medium to heavy from Duluth to Green Bay to Buffalo to the Hudson Valley as smoke is expected to continue around the region on Wednesday as well.
