'Rust' crew settles lawsuit against film producers and Alec Baldwin in fatal shooting
The lawsuit was brought by three 'Rust' crew members seeking compensation for emotional distress from producers of 'Rust," including Alec Baldwin as co-producer and lead actor.
The civil suit accused producers of failing to follow industry safety rules — allegations they denied.
Terms of the settlement were not available. Attorneys for 'Rust' producers and the plaintiffs could not immediately be reached by phone or email.
Plaintiffs to the lawsuit included Ross Addiego, a front-line crew member who witnessed at close range the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins at close during a rehearsal on October 2021 on a filmset ranch on the outskirts of Santa Fe.
A charge of involuntary manslaughter against Baldwin was dismissed at trial last year on allegations that police and prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense.
Separately, 'Rust' armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and completed an 18-month sentence in May. Prosecutors accused Gutierrez-Reed of unwittingly bringing live ammunition on set and failing to follow basic gun safety protocols.
Baldwin was pointing a gun at Hutchins during a rehearsal on a movie set outside Santa Fe when the revolver went off, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.
Addiego testified at Gutierrez-Reed's trial and appeared before the grand jury that indicted Baldwin.
The filming of 'Rust' was completed in Montana. The Western was released in theaters in May.

Teenage Engineering did it again
Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 94, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you're new here, welcome, did you hydrate today, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.) This week, I'm visiting LinkedIn way too much because of Mini Sudoku, looking at the fake texts in Apple's marketing materials, marveling at tiny doodles on microchips, listening to Taylor Swift's New Heights podcast episode, learning about model railroad power debates, reading about the death of expertise, catching up on my favorite HGTV home renovation show, and watching a very good drumline. I also have for you some durable cables, a great new Alien show, a strange RPG, and more. (As always, the best part of Installer is your ideas and tips. What do you want to know more about? What awesome tricks do you know that everyone else should? What app should everyone be using? Tell me everything: [email protected]. And if you know someone else who might enjoy Installer, forward it to them and tell them to subscribe here.) This week I'm featuring Soren Iverson, who you may recognize as the person who posts unhinged design concepts on social media like an iOS app icon filling up based on how many notifications the app has. Whenever these cross my feed, I nearly always cackle. I expected him to bring some of that chaos on his actual homescreen, but I was surprised to learn that his homescreen is even more minimal than mine — which inspired me to make mine a little less busy, too. The phone: iPhone 15 Pro The wallpaper: A black screen. I try to make time on my phone intentional, I call, text, or take notes most frequently. Everything else I bury as a more intentional action I have to take so that I'm generally more focused. The apps: Phone, Messages, Notes I also asked Soren to share a few things he's into right now. Here's what he said: Here's what the Installer community is into this week. I want to know what you're into right now as well! It's leaving on August 31st. The director's new movie, Weapons, just came out. Highly, highly recommend Barbarian. It's fun to go in blind, and even if you've seen the trailer, you'll still be spared some of its great twists. There's more humor in it than you might expect, and the gruesome aspects aren't over-the-top.' — Cameron Google is about to kick off the 2025 gadget season with its Pixel launch event on August 20th. Mass shooting at NYC lounge leaves at least 3 dead, others injured; suspects at large
A mass shooting at a crowded lounge in New York City left at least three people dead and eight others injured as police search for multiple suspects, authorities said Sunday morning. Gunfire erupted around 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn after a dispute took place, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a news briefing. Officers responded within minutes to multiple 911 calls and found 11 gunshot victims ranging in age from 27 to 61, Tisch said. Three victims, two males aged 27 and 35, and a third male of an unknown age, were pronounced dead. The remaining eight victims were being treated at local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Tisch said. Tisch said investigators believe there were multiple shooters, though no suspects were in custody as of Sunday morning. "We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we've seen on record in the city of New York," Tisch told reporters. "Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it's a terrible thing that happened this morning, but we're going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down." Investigators were canvassing available CCTV footage around the lounge and discovered at least 36 shell casings at the scene. A firearm was recovered near the scene, and police are investigating whether it was used in the shooting. No further details were immediately provided.

Three Are Killed in Shooting at Crown Heights Bar
Three people were killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting at a bar and restaurant in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn early Sunday morning, the police said. Police officers were called to Taste of the City Lounge at 903 Franklin Avenue around 3:30 a.m. after multiple reports of gunfire, the police said. There, they found eight men and three women with gunshot wounds. Three men were pronounced dead at the scene. The other eight victims were taken to hospitals, the police said. No suspects have been arrested, the police said. 'It's a terrible shooting,' Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at an early morning news conference on Sunday. 'We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we've seen on record in the city of New York. Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly.' On its website, Taste of the City advertises food, nightlife and regular entertainment like D.J.s and dancing. Officers recovered at least 36 shell casings from multiple guns after the shooting, the police said. A separate firearm was discovered at the corner of Eastern Parkway, which investigators believe may be related to the shooting.
