The police have imposed 41 conditions while granting permission to hold 'Vanniyar Women's Conference' scheduled to be held in Poompuhar on Sunday. The event is being organised by the Vanniyar Sangam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK).
In a statement on Saturday, the district police said took into consideration the venue, date, and the expected turnout for the conference before granting approval.
Key stipulations include ensuring the stability of the temporary stage, securing safety certification for electrical installations and lighting, and keeping fire engines and ambulance on standby at the venue. Double-layer barricades for crowd control, adequate number of entry and exit points for emergencies, and ensuring drinking water and toilets for participants are among the other conditions laid down by the police.
Vehicles bound for the conference venue should not use the prohibited routes via Manalmedu–Pattavarthi–Vaitheeswarankoil and Thiruvengadu–Neithavasal–Dharmakulam and must be parked only in designated areas. CCTV cameras are to be installed at the venue and parking lots, and access to the beach is barred during the event.
The police have prohibited entry of two-wheelers and directed that speeches must not hurt the sentiments of any community or religion or disturb public order.

Special general council meeting on August 17 will mark a historic turning point: PMK founder Ramadoss

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Thursday (August 14, 2025) said that the party's special general council meeting scheduled on Sunday (August 17) at Pattanur in Villupuram district will 'mark a historic turning point.' Refusing to disclose the decisions that would be taken at the meeting, Dr. Ramadoss said that he would go ahead with his commitments to ensure the introduction of 10.5% internal reservation for Vanniyars in education and jobs and also to ensure the conduct of a caste-wise census in the State. Speaking to reporters at his Thailapuram residence near Tindivanam, Dr. Ramadoss alleged that money was being paid to individuals using social media to post derogatory and highly objectionable comments against him and the party's honorary president G.K. Mani. 'People know about the standards of those posting such comments and their allegiance. Money was paid to them to post such derogatory and highly objectionable comments. People are fully aware of this, and would teach an effective lesson to those indulging in such activities,' he said. 'We will continue our journey with renewed momentum while those posting such comments are treading the path of destruction. I am not bothered by these comments but my journey would gather momentum, and the special general council meeting would mark a turning point,' he said.

Anbumani Ramadoss calls for removal of DMK Government

VILLUPURAM: Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss said he has been meeting people across Tamil Nadu with the sole objective of removing the ruling DMK government. Speaking at a public awareness meeting organised by the PMK as part of the Rights Retrieval Awareness Padayatra in Vikravandi, Villupuram district, on Wednesday, Anbumani said the campaign was not aimed at securing votes but at restoring the rights of the Vanniyar community, which has been continuously neglected and deceived in reservation matters. 'Villupuram is a land of sacrifice. In the 1987 reservation protest for Vanniyars, eight people from the Vikravandi area lost their lives. This place has a history of fighting for social justice,' he said. He alleged that the DMK government works against Scheduled Castes and minorities. 'In the past, people gave continuous victories to DMK, but all they got in return was disappointment,' he said. Anbumani claimed that the free sale of drugs in Tamil Nadu has made it unsafe for women to walk freely and that no one, from children to the elderly, feels secure. He said farmers are dissatisfied and sanitation workers, who keep the country clean, are protesting in Chennai. Recalling the 2019 Vikravandi by-election campaign, he said, 'The Chief Minister had promised to provide 15% reservation for Vanniyars, but it has not been implemented. Eighteen percent of Tamil Nadu's population are Vanniyars. If they progress, Tamil Nadu will progress.' He added that even after the Supreme Court ordered collection of data and fair allocation of reservation, Chief Minister MK Stalin did not implement it. 'There is no legal compulsion to conduct a caste census to provide reservation,' he said. He accused the DMK of betraying Vanniyars and Scheduled Castes since 1962 and 1967, when the Vanniyar-dominated northern districts had helped the party win many constituencies.

PMK internal feud: Notice served over hacking allegations

Chennai: The internal feud within PMK escalated as party leader Anbumani Ramadoss ' aide P Sasikumar issued a legal notice to P Swaminaathun, principal secretary of founder S Ramadoss. Sasikumar demanded an unconditional apology and 25lakh in compensation within a week, following allegations against him of unlawful surveillance and hacking activities in Ramadoss' house. Sasikumar said the allegations caused him severe "mental anguish and indescribable emotional trauma", and that the unverified statements across various media platforms inflicted grave and irreversible damage to him professionally as well. He threatened criminal proceedings if his demands are not met within a week. On Tuesday, Ramadoss moved Election Commission, alleging that "R Anbumani" had ulterior motives to ruin PMK for personal gains, which was unacceptable. In a complaint, Swaminaathun said Anbumani was "mischievous" and conducted unauthorized party meetings despite his tenure as president having expired. Sasikumar's legal notice, dated Aug 9, was delivered to Swaminaathun through advocate K Balu, who was previously removed from his position as party legal wing president for supporting Anbumani. This action follows a police complaint filed by Swaminaathun last week, alleging that Sasikumar hacked Ramadoss's phone using a Wi-Fi modem, reportedly confirmed by a private agency. "Among your many reckless assertions is the claim that my client was involved in unlawful surveillance and hacking activities allegations that are entirely fictitious, defamatory, and devoid of any evidentiary foundation," read the notice issued by Sasikumar. Swaminaathun had previously served as an assistant to Anbumani for several years. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
