Bengals listening to Trey Hendrickson trade offers as contract talks stall

New York Post2 days ago
The Trey Hendrickson contract saga has no end in sight.
At an impasse with the Bengals, the team is now listening to trade offers for the four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher, NFL Network reported Sunday.
This can all be posturing, of course. NFL Network reported that any deal for Hendrickson would require a haul.

Back in March, the Bengals granted Hendrickson permission to seek a trade. Nothing came of that and he reported to training camp on time rather than holding out. But the two sides have yet to come to an agreement.
Hendrickson, 30, has been a monster for Cincinnati. Since 2021, he has been selected for every Pro Bowl and has 77 career sacks. Last year, he tallied a league-high 17.5 for the second straight season.

He also had two forced fumbles, 46 tackles and six passes defensed. He was an All-Pro selection and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.
Pass rushers similar to Hendrickson have received big deals, like Maxx Crosby (three years-$106.5 million extension).
T.J. Watt now makes the most of any edge rusher at $41 million per season. Hendrickson makes $21 million a year.

The star edge rusher has said he wants to remain a Bengal, but at the right price.
'I've been able to achieve All-Pro honors, Pro Bowl honors. It's been a heck of a ride and to play with some of the most talented players in the league like Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Sam Hubbard, Logan Wilson, BJ Hill, I could list every player, Ted Karras is on that list, too,' Hendrickson said recently. 'I'm just tremendously blessed, the relationships I've made. However it shakes out, there's nowhere I'd rather be.'

NFL Insider Reveals Price Tag for Potential Eagles Trade Target

Landing Trey Hendrickson on the Philadelphia Eagles might be a long-shot scenario for Howie Roseman and the front office, but don't be surprised if the Super Bowl-winning team at least gives it a try. Over the years, Howie Roseman has built a reputation for making calls and doing his due diligence on players, even if the likelihood of striking a deal is low. Trey Hendrickson just might be the next blockbuster trade candidate in the NFL. At the start of training camp, Hendrickson was holding out from the Cincinnati Bengals. As the veteran edge rusher wanted a new deal, the lack of progress on talks convinced Hendrickson to spend some time away from the team. If the Bengals are going to aim high, they might ask for someone like Cooper DeJean. In that case, there's nothing more to discuss. That's not to say that Hendrickson's value is below DeJean's level. The Bengals' pass rusher is among the best in the league, as he registered a league-high 17.5 sacks in 17 games last season. He also produced 46 tackles, which also marked a career-high for the seasoned veteran, who has 110 appearances under his belt. The Eagles have formed a bit of a youth movement lately. DeJean fits the timeline and is viewed as a future NFL star in Philadelphia. Trading a high-upside second-year player, along with a valuable pick, for a 30-year-old player, who wants to break the bank with a long-term deal, doesn't make a ton of sense for the Eagles—especially when you factor in the upcoming Jalen Carter contract discussions. Hendrickson might be a dream candidate for some in Philadelphia, but the Super Bowl champions aren't in need of a big swing like that at this time. Jack Draper, Jessica Pegula share funny post-match exchange at US Open: ‘Old married couple'

While Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula may have said all of four words to each other before teaming up for this week's U.S. Open mixed doubles tournament, the two already sound like an 'old married couple,' one reporter joked during a hilarious back-and-forth on Tuesday. Pegula and Draper were speaking with reporters after they had defeated Emma Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev and Mirra Andreeva to advance to the semifinals. Draper was asked about his seriousness on the court during the matches and what it would mean to win, he replied that 'it would mean a lot' and that 'obviously it is like a bit of an exhibition format. It's nice to play with someone.' AFP via Getty Images That kicked off a funny exchange as Pegula jokingly admonished Draper for calling it an 'exhibition.' 'You shouldn't be saying that, but that's OK,' she said to him. The No. 5-ranked men's tennis player in the world was a bit confused at first, thinking that his comment about winning was what Pegula had first been referring to. Advertisement 'Yeah. It's not an exhibition. I know what you're saying,' she added. 'I'm hearing that a lot, it's a bit of an exhibition, a bit of fun, why am I so locked in,' Draper continued. 'It's a good opportunity to play, do well, get a lot of points in before next week, yeah. Like, I'm enjoying being locked in. I don't know why it's a crime to be locked in.' The moment amused Pegula as she jumped back in laughing as she said, 'No, it's fine. I'm just laughing at the 'exhibition' part.' The pair certainly played like they've known each other for a long time as Pegula and Draper dispatched their first round opponents, 4-2, 4-2 and then sent their quarterfinal opponents home in quick order, 4-1,4-1. Jets coach can't contain enthusiasm after Jermaine Johnson, Quinnen Williams return from injury: ‘Woah!'

It's safe to say that Aaron Glenn was stoked about Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams returning to New York Jets practice on Tuesday. The Jets coach couldn't contain his enthusiasm when asked what it's like to have the two studs back on the defensive line. 'All I can say is, 'Woah!'' Glenn exclaimed excitedly, with his eyes wide, eyebrows arched, and a grin creeping across his face. 'Eleven [Johnson] is out there, and he's rushing the passer, and he runs right by me, and it's like just wind, 'Woosh!' goes right by me. And then you see 95 [Williams]. It felt good. I'll just say that. It felt really good.' It was Johnson's first contact since he sustained a ruptured Achilles in Week 2 last season against the Tennessee Titans. The 26-year-old was activated off the PUP list last week but didn't take part in team drills until Tuesday. He was flying off the edge against the Jets offense, and would've likely had two sacks if the quarterback was allowed to be hit. Johnson was one of three first-round picks by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, behind corner Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson. He broke out in 2023 after a quiet rookie season. Johnson started all 17 games, recorded 7.5 sacks and 55 tackles, and had a 37-yard pick six. He was selected to the Pro Bowl at the end of that season. A powerful athlete, Johnson will complement 2023 first-round pick Will McDonald IV in an explosive 1-2 punch coming off the edge this season. McDonald had his own breakout season a year ago, when he took on a bigger role in Johnson's absence and led the Jets with 10.5 sacks. Glenn, in his first season as Jets coach, is amped about seeing Johnson and McDonald finally on the field together. 'Will has a fastball that's elite in this league. Jermaine is a bigger body that's a true power player, but he does have speed also, & when you have that dynamic, you can have one guy from one side rush with power, & when he's running right through the tackle, now the quarterback has to have an escape lane, you have a guy that has speed that can come from the backside & make a play,' Glenn explained. 'You see that from a lot of teams that have that dynamic. You have one guy with power & the other guy with speed, that makes a hell of a rush.' Related: Quinnen Williams also returns, Sauce Gardner avoids injury scare for Jets Williams returned after missing the first two preseason games with a calf injury. The three-time Pro Bowl lineman, who was First Team All-Pro at DT in 2022, helps complete a dynamic three-fourths on the defensive front with Johnson and McDonald. Williams has 39 sacks in six NFL seasons, including six last year and a career-high 12 in 2022. It was exciting to see those three all play together for the first time in more than a year, but don't expect to see that happen when the Jets host the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason finale Friday at MetLife Stadium. Though Glenn was coy about who's in and who's out of the lineup against the Eagles, he did say, 'Some starters won't play in this game. I won't get into the who's or whatnot but a good amount of starters won't play.' It's difficult to imagine Johnson or Williams suiting up coming off injury and just weeks away from the regular season opener Sept. 7 against the Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. It'd make no sense for the Jets to take such a risk with such important players. Speaking of important players and injury, Gardner also returned to practice Tuesday. He missed the 31-12 preseason loss to the New York Giants on Saturday because of a calf issue. But he was a full participant Tuesday, though there was a mild scare. Gardner was limping after a pass in the end zone and it appeared that perhaps he reaggravated the calf injury. But Glenn quelled those fears. 'I think he just got kicked in the leg. I think he's fine.' That helped put a bow on a happy day for the Jets head coach.
