Mercedes-AMG GT 63, GT 63 Pro launched in India: Gets a 4.0-litre V8

Time of India4 hours ago

Mercedes-Benz India has launched the new
Mercedes-AMG GT 63
and GT 63 Pro sports coupes in the Indian market priced at Rs 3 crore and Rs 3.65 crore, respectively (ex-showroom). Marking its comeback after a five-year absence, the latest iteration of the
high-performance grand tourer
steps in as a successor to the model that was phased out in 2020. Interested customers can book the cars online or by visiting their nearest dealership and the deliveries for the new GT 63 are scheduled to commence by late 2025, with a more powerful variant set to follow in early 2026.
Let's talk about the engine first, both GT 63 and 63 Pro are powered by a tried and tested hand-built 4.0-litre,
twin-turbo V8
engine pushing out 585hp and 800Nm of torque in GT 63, while the GT 63 Pro ups the ante with 612hp, an increase of 27hp and 850Nm, gaining an extra 50Nm over the standard version. Both cars come paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox which sends power to all four wheels. The GT 63 sprints from
0 to 100kph
in 3.2 seconds, while the Pro variant shaves off a tenth of a second, achieving the same in 3.1 seconds when equipped with optional Cup 2R tyres. It also edges ahead in top speed, reaching 317kph, 2kph more than the standard model.
Mercedes-AMG is also offering a special
AMG GT 63 Pro Motorsport Collector's Edition
in very limited numbers. While mechanically identical to the Pro, this edition features exclusive paintwork and interior touches inspired by the brand's current Formula One race cars. In terms of design, the two-door performance coupe has received a comprehensive overhaul, starting with a larger footprint, it's now both wider and longer than before. A key change is the adoption of a 2+2 seating configuration, previously reserved for the four-door AMG GT, making the cabin more versatile. It features the signature AMG GT silhouette, but now sports fresh alloy wheel designs, redesigned headlamps, and a new active rear spoiler.
It also carries forward signature styling elements from its predecessor, such as the elongated bonnet, sweeping roofline, and sloping liftback tailgate. However, now the design has been sharpened with slimmer headlamps, a reworked front bumper, and cleaner surfacing. The Pro variant distinguishes itself with a more aggressive front end and unique alloy wheels.
Mercedes has integrated aerodynamic elements derived from Formula 1, including an active underbody profile that uses the Venturi effect to generate downforce at speeds over 100kph, effectively pulling the car closer to the road. Design-wise, the car avoids harsh creases, with flush door handles and a smooth silhouette. The flowing roofline leads into a broad, flat rear that houses sleek LED tail-lights connected by a darkened trim strip. A retractable rear spoiler, with five different angles, and a prominent rear diffuser with dual exhausts complete the performance-focused design.

Max Verstappen to Mercedes? Toto Wolff confirms interest in signing Red Bull star

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed that they're interested in signing four-time World Champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and pair him with George Russell. Mercedes have been linked with making a move for Verstappen ever since Lewis Hamilton left the team and made the switch to Ferrari. It had seemed like the plans were being put on hold, but George Russell revealed to Sky Sports recently that his contract negotiations with Mercedes were being delayed as the team was holding talks with Verstappen. When asked about the Russell comments, Wolff said that he is supportive of what his drivers say and at the moment they're thinking about the future as well. The Mercedes chief, however, admitted that he is happy with the current lineup. advertisementAlso Read | Austrian Grand Prix preview: Verstappen seeks redemption, as McLaren look to extend lead "I like what George says and I'm always supportive of the driver. There is no such thing as saying things I wouldn't want him to say. We are very transparent in the team for what we do, what we plan, and we've been like that since I was put in charge. That's not the issue.""At the moment, clearly you need to explore what's happening in the future, but it doesn't change anything of what I said before about George, about Kimi, about the line-up that I'm extremely happy having," said Wolff. When asked if he had given a deadline to Verstappen about his decision, Wolff said that he wants these conversations to remain behind closed doors and not out in the public. advertisement"You make it sound like we have been asking, 'when do you want to join and what are the terms?' That's not how it is and how it works. I want to just have the conversations behind closed doors, not town halls.""We have two drivers that have been in our programme a long time, drivers that I'm perfectly happy to have, drivers that will do great in the future of the team. So, it's a bit different a situation," said Wolff. Verstappen has a contract until 2028, but a few clauses in the deal will allow him to exit the team early. Verstappen and Russell together? Wolff reactsVerstappen and Russell have had their fair share of run-ins this season and Wolff was asked if he could have both men in the same team. The Mercedes chief said he can imagine every possible lineup and pointed to having both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in the same team while fighting for the title. "I can imagine every line-up. I had Rosberg and Hamilton fighting for a world championship, so everything else afterwards is easy.""There are pros and cons of having two drivers fighting each other hard.""We've seen examples where that functions and other examples where it didn't."Verstappen and Russell are currently third and fourth in the F1 Drivers' standings heading into the Austrian GP. - EndsMust Watch
