Routes finalised for PM Modi's visit: Minister Narayana
Vijayawada: The State government has been making elaborate arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Amaravati on May 2. As part of it, the officials identified eight roads to reach Prime Minister's meeting venue behind AP Secretariat.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development P Narayana inspected arrangements and road works along with Guntur range IG Sarvashresta Tripathi and Guntur district Superintendent of Police Satish Kumar on Wednesday.
Later speaking to the media, Minister Narayana said that Rs 5,000 crore was sanctioned towards Amaravati development during the previous TDP regime. However, the previous YSRCP government neglected Amaravati development in the name of three capital campaign. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, immediately after coming to power, directed the officials to launch Amaravati development works and tenders called for works worth Rs 60,000 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will relaunch the development works on May 2 and officials should make Modi's programme a grand success.
The Minister said that Prime Minister Modi will reach Vijayawada airport at 3 pm on May 2 and participate in road show to be organised in Amaravati and address public meeting from 4 to 5 pm. He said five lakh people are expected to attend the programme. Parking places were identified along with eight roads to reach meeting venue from Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, Harischandrapuram, Prakasam Barrage, Tadikonda and Vijayawada West bypass road, he informed.

TDP cadre eagerly waiting for nominated posts
Tirupati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's assurance that all temple trust boards and market committees across the State would be constituted before June has not materialised, leaving several key posts in the erstwhile Chittoor district vacant. Aspirants who were promised recognition for their loyalty and efforts during the previous YSRCP rule are growing increasingly restless, as their hopes remain unfulfilled months after the NDA took power. The Srikalahasti Devasthanam Trust Board's tenure ended in March, and since then, the temple, known for its Rs 120-crore annual budget, has been functioning under the sole control of its Executive Officer. Despite earlier resolutions regarding infrastructure upgrades and festival plans, a new board has not been appointed. A similar situation prevails in Kanipakam, where the previous trust board resigned after the new government took charge in June 2024. The delay has hampered daily administration and festival preparations, with temporary decisions now being made by the EO. Other temples, particularly folk shrines such as Tataiahgunta Gangamma in Tirupati and Boyakonda Gangamma in Chowdepalle, also remain without trust boards. In the absence of formal appointments, political influence has begun to dominate temple affairs, with decisions reportedly being made based on proximity to Ministers rather than official structures. Besides these there are several other temples under the Endowments Department which are yet to get the nominated bodies. In addition to temple appointments, several market committee chairmanships across the district are also pending, adding to the cadre's frustration. On the political front, key organisational appointments within the TDP are yet to be finalised. The party is expected to announce new presidents for Tirupati and Chittoor parliamentary constituencies, as well as for the crucial Tirupati Assembly constituency and other constituencies. It has to be seen whether the current parliamentary presidents, G Narasimha Yadav (now chairman of the State Yadava Corporation) and CR Rajan (appointed to the Vanniyakula Kshatriya Corporation) will be continued in dual roles or be replaced with new faces. Similarly, Tirupati constituency president M Sugunamma, who has been appointed chairperson of the AP Greenery and Beautification Corporation, is widely expected to make way for a new leader at the city-level party post.

Rs 450 cr for water supply to MTMC
Vijayawad: The state government has approved a Comprehensive Water Supply Improvement Scheme for the entire jurisdiction of the Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC), aiming to ensure safe and sustainable drinking water supply to all urban and peri-urban areas under its administration. The scheme will cater to the erstwhile Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Mangalagiri and Tadepalli, as well as 15 newly merged villages (excluding six villages proposed for merger with the Capital Region Development Authority), said S Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department. The MTMC was formed by merging the municipalities of Mangalagiri and Tadepalli with 21 adjoining villages. A previous water supply project funded by the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) with a sanctioned amount of Rs 221.52 crore had made partial progress due to funding limitations, leaving key infrastructure incomplete—particularly in the newly merged areas. To address these gaps, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has now been prepared for a comprehensive water supply scheme using Krishna River as the source. The plan includes intake and treatment facilities, distribution networks for both the newly merged villages and unserved areas of the erstwhile ULBs, and the completion of pending works under the AIIB scheme. The total estimated project cost is Rs 450.24 crore, which will be funded as follows: Rs 287.54 crore under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) for completing works in the former ULBs, Rs 51.20 crore under AMRUT 2.0 for core infrastructure components, Rs 111.50 crore for the extension of water supply to the 15 merged villages, to be funded through the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The Engineer-in-Chief (PH) (FAC), PH & ME Department, had sought administrative sanction and fund allocation for the Rs 111.50 crore CRDA component. The government has now issued the necessary approval to proceed with implementation. The scheme is designed to meet water supply needs up to the year 2056, based on projected population growth, and marks a significant step toward equitable urban infrastructure development in Andhra Pradesh, said Suresh Kumar.
