Village of Los Ranchos shares potential list of projects for the next five years
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In Albuquerque's North Valley, the Village of Los Ranchos is trying to figure out how it should prioritize millions of dollars of work over the next few years. The list includes 17 projects, including a lot of road work along Fourth Street and Rio Grande Blvd near Paseo del Norte, but before any decisions they want to hear what neighbors think. Ideas include new sound barriers and better pedestrian crossings near Paseo del Norte, creating new balloon landing zones, and upgrading several basic rough trails. Politicians sink $13M in closed New Mexico tourist attraction 'They're not even, they're not flat, not developed. They're basically informal. Some of those will stay that way, but then there are others where we know we have to have better access for young people who might be wanting to access the schools,' said Village of Los Ranchos Mayor Lawrence Rael. Meanwhile, in some of the public feedback, some say Los Ranchos needs better traffic and noise management. Douglas Cutler agrees, saying he wants to see upgrades on Fourth Street. 'I would like to see focus on Fourth and Osuna in that area. It seems like with all of the new construction there and the new residents in that apartment complex, the streets are not adequate to handle the traffic,' said Douglas Cutler, a Village of Los Ranchos resident. Mayor Lawrence Rael said the Village priorities also include upgrades to Rio Grande Boulevard, where a $15 million project could make a roundabout just south of Paseo. 'There will be some repaving of the whole corridor, I'd like to look at the shoulders a little bit. We have a lot of folks commuting through there with bikes and a lot of folks recreating,' said Mayor Rael. Where was 'No Country for Old Men' filmed in New Mexico? The mayor said their priorities aren't final yet and could change with public feedback. 'It would be really great to have those projects in place and that the Village is thriving and moving forward,' said Mayor Rael. The Village will have one final meeting to discuss the project ideas and take more feedback in less than two weeks on June 24. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Big Rock's featured artist brings tournament to life with this year's t-shirt design
MOREHAEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — If you are down at Big Rock this week, you will see many people wearing this year's t-shirt design. The design comes curtesy of Big Rock's featured artist, Steve Goione, a marine wildlife illustrator based out of Wilmington. Goione has been Big Rock's featured artist for a few years in a row, and is always making sure each year is unique and brings the tournament to life. 'We try to tell the story of the big rock tournament right through the illustration,' Goione said. 'The Marlin always has to be the big focus piece in the illustration. So so this year I used a big it's a side shot of the Marlins very bold, very bright colors.' As Big Rock grows in popularity worldwide, so does the design of the t-shirts. 'I travel around the world and I've seen big rock shirts in Kona, Hawaii. I've seen them in Bermuda, I've seen them in Costa Rica, in airports,' Goione said. 'It's just amazing, it makes me feel really good.' Goione's orginal illustration will be auctioned off, with all of the proceeds going to Big Rock affiliated charities. Lorenzo, the giant NY lobster, gets a second chance at life
NEW YORK (PIX11) — A giant lobster with a long history is now making waves in a different way. Thanks to a special celebration and the big-hearted people behind it, Lorenzo—the 21-pound, 110-year-old lobster—is swimming free once again. More Local News On Thursday, Peter's Clam Bar in Hempstead, Long Island, marked National Lobster Day and Father's Day with a heartfelt gesture: setting Lorenzo free. Butch Yamali, owner of Peter's Clam Bar, shared how Lorenzo became part of the restaurant's story. 'Lorenzo just kind of slipped through the cracks and ended up in our tank for years,' he said. Yamali explained that Lorenzo had become a fixture at the establishment. 'Some of these lobsters just don't live that long, and this one did. So we figured what better way to celebrate Father's Day than by freeing Lorenzo. He became like a pet. People would come see him and take pictures with him, and he was just an object of the store.' The celebration gained official support when Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin and Nassau County Legislator John Ferretti joined forces to pardon and release Lorenzo back into the wild. This event echoes a similar story with Lenny, another giant lobster the restaurant famously freed, continuing a tradition of giving these ancient crustaceans a second chance at life. When asked if Lorenzo would be missed, Yamali said, 'He's gonna be missed, but I think it's better like this. If he passed away here, it wouldn't be a good thing, and I couldn't have the heart to sell him.' And just like that, Lorenzo was returned to the Atlantic Beach Reef—back to the open sea, his home once again. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
