Peoria Train Fair returns to Central Illinois
EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — All aboard the Peoria Train Fair at Illinois Central College in East Peoria.
The event had more than 100 tables set up and 41 vendors on Sunday. People learned about trains, checked out model train displays and bought some cool train collectibles.
The event was hosted by Pekin's River City Model Railroad Club and included train entertainment such as movies and books, as well as having memorabilia and railroad parts and supplies for event goers to purchase.
Don MacGregor with the club said it's all about letting your imagination run wild.
'Looking at a train, thinking it's real and imagining that I'm on that train. And in some cases, I have been on that train. The models that I have are some of the ones I've ridden. And that's what it is. I mean, it's imagination. And you just always want to know where it's going or where it's coming from, you know,' said MacGregor.
The next Peoria Train Fair will be held on Nov. 16.

Peoria Juneteenth Fest: Free health services & community fun
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The YANI Collective celebrates Juneteenth with a day full of festivities including the Ernestine Jackson Freedom Day parade, music, horses, runway modeling, and money, on June 14, and beyond. Lexii Loushel, and Mary Moore of the YANI Collective stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk about it. The theme of this year's Juneteenth festival is 'Peoria Black Wallstreet.' Loushel explained that when these specially marked 'YANI Bucks' get used at participating businesses, they will keep circulating throughout the community. 'It's not just a festival, it's going to extend beyond and teach our community how to continue to work together and make money,' she said. The festival also includes a health and wellness fair, which includes free school physicals, and STD testing. The Juneteenth festival is not all health and economy, there is ample fun in store as well, such as an alumni basketball game, and dodgeball, and there will be plenty of music which will help with the line dancing and the Rip the Runway modeling show. There will also be horseback riding, bouncy houses and plenty of food vendors on site. The event also includes the third annual Miss Juneteenth Pageant, with new additions including Miss Teen Juneteenth, Mister Juneteenth, and Little Miss Juneteenth categories. 'Ride the Cyclone' musical debuts in East Peoria this weekend
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A dark comedy about death and amusement parks is heading to East Peoria this weekend. Eastlight Theatre is performing the regional premiere of the musical 'Ride the Cyclone.' One of the show's stars, Joshua Regan, joined director Kevin Paul Wickart on WMBD This Morning. The musical focuses on a group of teens who die on a malfunctioning rollercoaster. In the afterlife, they're offered a chance at resurrection by a magical fortune teller machine. It's not just the premise that's bizarre. Regan says his character, Ricky, was rendered mute due to witnessing the death of his father and retreats into a fantasy world of cat people in outer space. Despite the strangeness, Regan says the role has a lot of heart in it and delivers an inspiring message. 'It's such a good role to explore everyone's need to be seen and everyone's need to fit in,' he says. The Penguin Project presents 'Something Rotten Jr.' With such an odd premise and characters, it should come as no surprise that the show's music is similarly eclectic. 'I have a Bon Jovi-esque, 70s or 80s rock number,' Regan explained. 'And other people have a 1930s, like, accordion, stuff like that. So I think it's a great opportunity to explore the different music and have that reflect in the characters.' Wickart says, while the subject matter isn't exactly appropriate for young children, teens and families shouldn't be discouraged from checking out the show. 'We hope that the music and the lighter bits will carry [the audience] through,' Wickart told us. 'Ride the Cyclone' runs from June 13-15 and 18-21 at the Byron Moore Auditorium at East Peoria High School. Sunday, June 15 is a matinee performance; all other shows are in the evening. Canton packs 200 years of fun into 10 days for Bicentennial June 20-29.
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Canton Bicentennial begins June 20 with the 'Canton Cruise In' Car Show, and winds up with the Bicentennial Birthday Bash on June 29. The In between is packed with ice cream, concerts, historic bus tours, a time capsule reveal, a parade, and of course, plenty of birthday cake. Mike Walters, the chairman of the Canton Bicentennial 2025 Committee, and Carla Bobell, the executive director of the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk more about it. There has been such a huge interest in so many of the events that one of them is sold out in advance, the tribute to The Doors, who played at Canton High School in 1967. Not to worry, there is plenty of music on tap from at least four local bands, including the Canton High School band on June 24. 'There's so many different events, if you're a historian, and would love to learn all the history, or if you are just looking for some family friendly events to attend, this is the event to come out to,' Bobell said. One of those many historical events will be the reveal of a time capsule planted in 1925. Walters is pleased with its condition. 'We know it's dry, it's never been rained on, never had anything done to it, so we're very proud of this time capsule,' he said. Find out its 100-year-old secrets June 23 at 6:30 p.m. They will also prepare another capsule for 100 years from now. That opening is on my calendar. Another highlight of the 10-day event is the Parade of History, June 28, at 10 a.m. The fest also includes 5K run and walk June 28, to work off all the birthday cake.
