MLS roundup: Red Bulls re-sign M Lewis Morgan
February 7 - The New York Red Bulls signed Scottish midfielder Lewis Morgan to a new two-year contract Friday that includes options for 2027 and 2028.
Morgan, 28, recorded 20 goal contributions last season (13 goals, seven assists) and was named the Comeback Player of the Year.
"Lewis is an incredible human being, who means a lot to our locker room and our club," head coach Sandro Schwarz said. "He is a very impactful player and we are excited to get the opportunity to continue to work with him."
Morgan has recorded 34 goals and 23 assists in 123 MLS matches (117 starts) with Inter Miami CF (2020-21) and the Red Bulls.
--CF Montreal announced the acquisitions of defenders Brandan Craig and Luca Petrasso.
Craig, 20, is signed for 2025 with option years from 2026-28. He came up through the Philadelphia Union system before going on loans to Austin FC in 2023 and USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive in 2024.
"He showed consistency and good technical quality on the ball during camp," Montreal president and CEO Gabriel Gervais said. "He's a young player who can play as a central defender or on the right side of the defense."
Petrasso, 24, is signed for 2025 with option years in 2026 and 2027. He has four assists in 37 MLS matches (25 starts) with Toronto FC (2022) and Orlando City (2023-24).
"We are pleased to add Luca to our squad," Gervais said. "He is a versatile player with MLS experience who will provide support on the left side, both in the wing back and center back position."
--Toronto FC signed homegrown goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario, 20, to a two-year contract with options for 2027 and 2028.
De Rosario, 20, made 55 saves in 25 appearances for MLS NEXT Pro affiliate Toronto FC II. He also spent time on loan in the Canadian Premier League in 2022 and 2023.

No quick fix to Scotland's keeper conundrum, admits boss Steve Clarke
Scotland head coach Steve Clarke admits solving their goalkeeper issues will be a long-term project as he looks for a stop-gap solution ahead of Monday's friendly against Liechtenstein. With regular starter Craig Gordon injured, along with the recently-capped Zander Clark and Liam Kelly, Clarke was relieved to be able to call on the fit-again Angus Gunn for his June squad. But 22-year-old Cieran Slicker was thrust into an unexpected debut against Iceland on Friday night after Gunn was hit with an ankle injury in the opening stages, Kilmarnock's Robby McCrorie having suffered a thigh problem in the warm-up. The Ipswich keeper had only played six first-team matches and struggled with the occasion. He conceded almost immediately, after losing possession himself, and his kicking got worse before it got better. Slicker conceded two more soft goals after John Souttar's equaliser and it made for painful viewing to see the inexperienced keeper struggle to deal with what should have been a memorable experience turning into a personal nightmare. Clarke had brought 18-year-old Callan McKenna into the training squad in midweek with an eye on the future after expressing concern in recent months that the long-term future of the goalkeeping department had been neglected somewhat. McKenna moved from Queen's Park to Bournemouth in February 2024 after playing nine first-team games for the Spiders. The position has been one of Scotland's strengths for many years, with Gordon and the now retired David Marshall and Allan McGregor all vying for the gloves. Gordon, now 42, is one of the few Scottish first-choice keepers in the William Hill Premiership and he and Clark have swapped that status in recent seasons with Hearts. Clarke signalled he would seek to find available keepers who were not on holiday before Scotland leave for Vaduz on Sunday. His choices in Scotland's top flight are limited to players that do not regularly play. Ross Doohan has been Aberdeen's second-choice keeper this season, although he played 18 times because of injuries to Bulgaria international Dimitar Mitov. Doohan has been tipped to move to Celtic to replace Scott Bain as third choice following the former Dundee keeper's move to Falkirk. The 33-year-old did not play this season but does have three caps. Dundee's Jon McCracken and Ross County's Ross Laidlaw are also potential options, but both have been on the bench in recent months. Clarke said: 'It's a circumstance that I pointed out in March. I could see something like this possibly coming. 'The good thing, or the only crumb of comfort to take from it, is it happened in a friendly match. 'We'll be better covered when it comes to the autumn. 'It's pretty unusual to have five first choice all struggling with injury, all out. Not everybody plays regularly at their club. 'It's something that we have to address and something we have to look at. It's not going to change in a click of a finger. It's not going to change quickly. 'It's more for the long term and probably for the next head coach and the next head coach after that.' Amid the goalkeeping drama, Scotland delivered another poor performance to leave them with just one win in their last nine home matches, the previous one a 3-0 defeat by Greece in the Nations League play-offs. 'Obviously, the last two results have been really disappointing here at Hampden,' said Clarke, who could lose Scott McTominay to a knee injury for Monday's game. 'We've got a lot of work to do.' An initial £20million of investment has been promised and a share issue will follow to help raise more funds. With the Light Blues in Champions League qualifying action on July 22/23 and 29/30, the summer rebuild must start soon. We looked at how Martin could transform Rangers, in particular by recruiting trusted former players. Gers chief Stewart acknowledged there is a lot of ground to be made up on Celtic in the league, but believes Martin has arrived early enough for them to make signings before the Euro qualifiers next month. Speaking in an interview with Rangers TV, he said: 'There is a lot of hard work to be done, just to be clear. I think there always is every pre-season for Rangers because the European qualifiers come so early, so let's not shy away from that. 'That said, we have got Russell in and the transfer window doesn't open for another ten days and the first team don't return for another two weeks, so actually you could look at it glass half full and say we have got him in well in advance of those two key events. 'But let's not kid ourselves, there is a lot of hard work to be done but I know Russell is determined to get stuck into that. 'The potential of Rangers, we know it is unfulfilled at the moment. 'This is a huge club and supporters, players, management and staff, we have all been frustrated at not having achieved the heights. Stewart was asked how Martin's experience in both Scotland and England during his career will help them in the recruitment process. He said that combining Martin's knowledge with Thelwell's contacts book should lead to positive results in the transfer market. Stewart said that they will pay close attention to the Scottish and English markets, as players there will have an understanding of the British game. But that won't stop them from scouting players further afield - the only condition being that they must ALREADY be suited to playing in Scotland, rather than trying to mould them into the finished product. He said: 'Having an understanding of the Scottish game I would say is a key factor because every league is unique and we can look at some of the fixtures that have to be played as part of the SPFL. 'Every ground has its nuances and every club has its nuances, so somebody that comes in with an understanding of that is a huge asset. 'Equally, when it comes to recruiting players having a knowledge of markets outside of Scotland and players outside of Scotland, and off-the-pitch talent outside of Scotland as well, is a huge advantage. Ross Doohan to answer Scotland SOS as Steve Clarke looks to ease goalkeeper crisis

The Aberdeen shotstopper - who has penned a pre-contract with first club Celtic - is in line to win a first cap in Vaduz. Steve Clarke was forced into a frantic search for cover after Angus Gunn limped out of Friday's defeat to Iceland after just two minutes. Untried Ciaran Slicker was thrown into action but, with just nine minutes of football under his belt in the last 22 months, froze on the big occasion and was at fault for all three goals in the 3-1 defeat. To add to Clarke's woes back-up Robby McCrorie was injured in the warm-up meaning the Kilmarnock keeper and Gunn join a lengthy goalkeeping casualty list that had already seen Craig Gordon, Liam Kelly and Zander Clark ruled out. Now Doohan looks set to join up with the squad ahead of flying out to Liechtenstein on Sunday. The 27-year-old made 18 appearances for the Dons last season and was capped right through the youth ranks up to U-21 level where he made 13 appearances. Bournemouth kid Callan McKenna has also been training with the squad. But the 18-year-old former Queen's Park keeper will likely just be cover. Speaking after Friday's defeat Clarke said: "It's difficult for Cieran. I feel for him. "He got thrown into a situation where he maybe wasn't quite ready for it. But Craig's injured, Liam Kelly's injured, Zander Clark was injured. "I mentioned back in March that it was something I thought might come back to bite us. The only good thing is it came in a friendly match. "For sure I'll try and call up another goalkeeper. I've had young Callan McKenna who's just turned 18-years of age, training with us and he'll travel. I'll see if I can find another one somewhere in Scotland that's not on holiday."
