ABC comedy Austin returns with more humour, heart and Michael Theo

The Age23-07-2025
Austin (season two) ★★★★
There is much to rejoice about Austin, ABC's Australian and British comedy drama co-production, returning for a second series. An original show! Made (partly) here! More of actor Michael Theo in the title role!
Big-hearted, intelligently humorous and laced with goof, the first series followed Austin (Theo, Love On the Spectrum), an autistic man, connecting with his biological father, Julian (Ben Miller, Professor T, Paddington), a bestselling – though recently cancelled – author. Their new relationship brought profound change for father and son (and greater family and associates) amid revealed secrets and semi-chaos.
Series one ended with DNA results and a cliffhanger – is Austin actually Julian's son?
The answer comes swiftly in series two's opening episode. I won't give it away, suffice to say that Austin, Julian and a raft of returning and new characters (this show bursts with singularly distinctive roles) are front and centre across eight new episodes, all set, as in series one, between Canberra and London.
Austin, now living in North London with Julian, his stepmother Ingrid (Sally Phillips, Bridget Jones, Miranda) and his stepsister Florence (Ellie McKay, Miss Austen), has written a book about England's capital, and Julian, pivoting careers, is helping to publish it.
Austin is given a literary agent, Greta (Claire Lovering, Gold Diggers) a posh zeitgeister with ironic knee-high socks and untrammelled confidence, whose influence on her client brings fame and a character change.
Julian – cognisant of the philandering and narcissism that has driven Ingrid to reconsider her marriage – is doing his uneven best to stop acting like a total prig.

Kandi Burruss makes host Steve Harvey blush with raunchy answer on Celebrity Family Feud

Celebrity Family Feud Season 11 is in full swing. Hosted by the Steve Harvey, the long-running ABC game show in the US has been blessed with some incredible stars. So far, audiences have seen the families of Taraji P. Henson and Jennifer Hudson face off against each other. The casts of General Hospital and The Young and the Restless delighted viewers with their friendly (and not-so-friendly at times) rivalry. But this week's episode is for Bravo fans. Former Real Housewives Of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss and current Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards have brought some of their loved ones along to duke it out as they try to win money for charity. On Team Kyle, playing for Nami (National Alliance on Mental Illness), are Richards' four daughters: Farrah Aldjufrie, Alexia Umansky, Sophia Umansky and Portia Umansky. On Team Kandi, playing for Kandi Cares (Burruss' own charity), are Burruss' daughter Riley Burruss; Burruss' stepdaughter Kaela Tucker; Burruss' cousin Kight Dallas; and, Kandi Koated Entertainment GM DonJuan Clark. Anything can happen when these two celebrity teams try to glean what the 'survey said.' In this exclusive clip from tonight's episode, Burruss and her team are now are in control of the question. Harvey stands by team captain Burruss to playfully pose the question: 'We asked 100 women: name something you do to a bald man's head to get him in the mood.' Burruss, who has never been shy about sharing details of her sex life, winces and grits her teeth as she thinks of an answer. 'Oh, man,' says Burruss. 'Um, I'm gonna say straddle it.' Immediately, the crowd begins to hoot and holler. With a big grin, Burruss turns to the audience as they cheer for her raunchy response. Burruss' daughters can only giggle. Harvey, a bald man himself, takes a minute as he lets Burruss' steamy guess settle in. 'You know when you hear something and you don't know what to do?' Harvey asks the audience as he squirms. Harvey collects himself and continues. 'That is such a Kandi answer, though.' Aware of the fact that she only knows how to be herself, Burruss just laughs and nods. Harvey turns to the board and yells 'Straddle it,' as a big red X flashes on the screen, indicating that Burruss' guess was not one of the top 5 responses from the survey.

Home and Away star Lukas Radovich marries professional netballer Liam Forcadilla in lavish Sydney wedding

Former Home and Away star Lukas Radovich has married professional netball player Liam Forcadilla. The actor and athlete tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Sydney on Friday. Forcadilla — captain of the Australian men's netball team, the Kelpies — and Radovich — who played Ryder Jackson on Home and Away from 2017 to 2022 — got married near the Seven studio in Eveleigh. Confetti fell on the newlyweds as they danced beneath a spotlight, surrounded by cheering loved ones, at the candlelit Grounds of Alexandria. The grooms shared footage of their first dance, set to Taylor Swift's song, Love, on social media alongside the caption: 'You can hear the love in the room.' Among their star-studded guest list was former Home and Away star Courtney Miller, who played Bella Nixon on the show from 2018 to 2022. Miller called their marriage 'the greatest love story ever' in a comment on social media beneath footage of the special night. 'Glad to be by your side, my boys.' 'Absolutely magical! Congratulations to you both,' Stephanie Panozzo, who plays Home and Away's Eden Fowler, also commented on the post. Notable netballers also congratulated the love birds, with Melbourne Mavericks stars Amy Parmenter and Sasha Glasgow also gushing in the comments. Radovich and Forcadilla got engaged in 2024, and had already sent out their wedding invites when they spoke to The Morning Show about the Push Up Challenge for Mental Health in May this year. 'We support each other through the highs and lows,' Forcadilla said. 'It's a big reason why I love Lukas, he's always got my back and always championing me from my corner. 'I better put that in my vows,' he joked.
