Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K's Poonch sector, Indian Army responds
Pakistan on Tuesday violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, indulging in unprovoked firing in Poonch sector, official sources said. File photo: Security personnel conducting a search operation in Poonch(PTI) Indian Army retaliated to Pakistan ceasefire violation, with the firing exchange having continued for 15 minutes, the above-mentioned sources said, adding that there were no report of any casualty. More details are awaited. This marks the first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces on May 7. The previous breach of ceasefire happened in May amid military conflict between India and Pakistan. Pakistan Rangers initiated unprovoked firing on Border Security Force (BSF) posts on May 9 along the International Border in the Jammu sector late Friday night. The May 10 incident prompted a swift and firm response from the BSF, India's border guarding force mandated to guard the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border. In a statement, the BSF's Jammu division had confirmed that Indian forces responded in a "commensurate manner", causing significant damage to Pakistani posts and assets across the border. "On 09 May 2025, from about 2100 hrs, Pakistan opened fire on BSF posts in the Jammu sector without any provocation. BSF is responding in commensurate manner causing widespread damage to posts and assets of Pakistan Rangers along the International Boundary. Our resolve to protect India's sovereignty is unshaken," BSF said in a statement.

Crossborder Firing By Pakistan In Poonch, Indian Side Retaliates: Sources
The reports of Pakistani firing along the Line of Control came from Mankote sector in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district Days after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch, there were reports of crossborder firing by Pakistan in the Mankote sector of the district on Tuesday. According to sources, the firing from across the border was unprovoked but the Indian side retaliated effectively. This comes soon after two heavily-armed terrorists, believed to be members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were killed in a fierce gunfight on July 30. Army troops had foiled their infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district. This was also days after security forces eliminated three hardcore terrorists, who were involved in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in a forest in Srinagar. The army had said the operation on July 30, conducted under the code name 'ShivShakti', was a major setback to nefarious designs of Pakistan-sponsored terrorist organisations that are constantly abetting acts of terror in Jammu and Kashmir. It had recovered war-like stores including two assault rifles with ammunition, one pistol with ammunition, hand grenades, two improvised explosive devices, medicines, communication device and other logistic stores. Congress MP raises doubts over Op Mahadev, asks if terrorists killed were ‘real' Pahalgam attackers
The Rajya Sabha MP was speaking on the issue of deploying Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel inside the parliament, including on marshalling duties, which the Congress party has objected to. 'They can't catch the actual aatankwadi (terrorists). They don't know how to do it. It took them so long to catch them. We don't even know if they are the real ones, but they will come to parliament and target the women. Great. This is their level and limit,' Chowdhury told mediapersons outside parliament Tuesday. New Delhi: A week after Home Minister Amit Shah said the three terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack had been killed in an encounter, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury raised doubts whether those eliminated in Operation Mahadev were the 'real' perpetrators of the 22 April massacre. 'They can use power on us, police on us, and marshal power on us and think that we will be scared,' Chowdhury said. Giving details around the process of identification of the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack, the Union home minister told parliament 29 July that a joint team comprising troops from the Indian Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police killed three terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba on the upper reaches of Srinagar. He identified the trio as Suleiman, a 'grade A category' commander of the LeT, Afghan and Jibran, also grade A category terrorists. He asserted that Indian agencies had ample proof and evidence that they were the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. He had said that ballistic reports of the two AK-47s and one M-4 rifle by the Chandigarh Forensic Laboratory matched with cartridges recovered from the scene of crime in Pahalgam, confirming the use of the very rifles behind the ghastly attack. Operation Mahadev was a joint operation by the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched in Kashmir's Dachigam on 28 July. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had questioned the timing of the operation, pointing out its coincidence with the Parliament session. Congress leader Chowdhury takes the debate a step further by casting doubt on the identity of the terrorists and the authenticity of the encounter. Speaking after Shah's detailed speech in the lower house on 29 July, Yadav pointed out the encounter killing of the terrorists happened 28 July, when the parliament was set to discuss the Pahalgam attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor launched by the armed forces. 'We are all happy … terrorists killed, and we support it. But who is reaping the political gain after all? They are asking why I am not thanking them for Operation Mahadev? When it came to giving support, all the political parties of the country were with you…why did the encounter happen only yesterday?' Yadav said in the Lok Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor. (Edited by Ajeet Tiwari) Also Read: Hindus can never be terrorists, says Amit Shah during Op Sindoor debate in Rajya Sabha
