Adnan Januzaj made shocking prediction to Man United boss

Yahoo17-07-2025
Former Manchester United defender Demetri Mitchell has revealed some amusing stories about former United star Adnan Januzaj.
The pair shared time together at United
The two players were involved in the youth team shortly around the time of Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013.
Mitchell joined the academy in 2013 and made one senior appearance before leaving for Blackpool in 2020. He currently plays for Exeter City in League One.
In a recent exchange on X, he revealed some interesting stories about his former teammate, Januzaj.
The Belgian international has had a more successful career, playing 63 times for the United senior team and scoring five goals.
He later moved to Real Sociedad and Sevilla in Spain. The winger also played at the World Cup for Belgium and has 15 caps for his national side.
Januzaj's unfulfilled potential
The exciting winger broke onto the scene in the 2013-2014 season, scoring two goals in a 2-1 win over Sunderland.
His rise caught the imagination of fans, especially in the context of falling to seventh place after Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement the previous season.
Nonetheless, he never really lived up to his billing and a lot of this failure to meet expectations could have come from an underlying overconfidence in his own ability.
Speaking on X, his former teammate Mitchell stated that, 'Adnan once said to the manager Why do I need gym I'm going to win the ballon dor.'
He also confirmed the story that Januzaj and Andreas Pereira were once told off for not taking a reserve game seriously by shooting from corners and doing unnecessary tricks during the match.
Mitchell did praise the Belgian's ability though and claimed, 'he had that fake shot on lock though.'
Another poster then claimed that the player still had a decent career and Mitchell responded, 'have to respect it he was different gravy.'
Nonetheless, Januzaj is yet another cautionary tale of how talent won't get a footballer to the top alone.
Many who played with him and saw his rise in the United ranks would defend his ability but he did not put in the hard yards to maximise every ounce of the immense talent that he possessed.

Dan Campbell 'fired up' about Detroit Lions quarterback Kyle Allen

Dan Campbell 'fired up' about Detroit Lions quarterback Kyle Allen originally appeared on The Sporting News The Detroit Lions are still trying to figure out who their backup quarterback will be for the 2025 NFL season, and it seems like we finally have some clarity regarding the competition based on Friday's preseason contest versus the Atlanta Falcons. Kyle Allen completely outplayed Hendon Hooker in Atlanta on Friday. Allen completed seven of his eight passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns. The veteran signal-caller led Detroit on three scoring drives and played a near-flawless game, though he did fumble once, which he was able to recover. During a press conference on Monday, Campbell praised Allen for his play and said the 29-year-old signal-caller was on point. "I thought he was on point with the operated the offense at a high level. I was fired up," Campbell said of Allen's performance against the Falcons via Kory Woods of Allen's exceptional play on Friday isn't the only reason why he is the clear leader in the QB2 battle right now. Hooker's struggles from the Hall of Fame game continued in preseason Week 1, as the Tennessee product lost two fumbles and posted just 38 passing yards on seven completions. Campbell revealed that he benched Hooker for Allen in the second quarter due to the fumbles. "You decide you're gonna be a runner, you gotta tuck it away, man," Campbell on Hooker's fumbling issues versus the Falcons via Colton Pouncy of The Athletic. It's clear that Allen has the edge over Hooker heading into this week's preseason contest versus the Miami Dolphins. If Allen continues to stack solid outings, Detroit will likely pick him over Hooker as No.2 quarterback behind Jared Goff due to his experience, as he has started 19 games in his career thus far. Where Oregon Ducks stand in AP Preseason Top 25 Poll

In just under three weeks, the Oregon Ducks will play an actual football game. Some questions will be answered in that home opener against Montana State. We'll all find out how good the Oregon defense really is and how deep they run. We'll also see what kind of chemistry Dante Moore has with the receiving group, even without Evan Stewart in the mix. Despite some heavy roster turnover from a year ago, there are high expectations for the 2025 team, and another one has just been dropped today. The Associated Press dropped its preseason Top 25 ranks, and the Ducks are a respectable No. 7. Although with that high ranking, Oregon isn't even the top-ranked Big Ten team. Penn State (No. 2) and Ohio State (No. 3) are ranked above the Ducks. The Ducks were ranked No. 3 in the first AP poll of last season, but that was a rarity. The last time Oregon was a Top 10 team entering the season before 2024 was in 2020 when they were No. 9 coming into the strangest seasons of college football ever. Rank Team Points Final Rank 2024 1 Texas 1,552 (25) 4 2 Penn State 1,547 (23) 5 3 Ohio State 1,472 (11) 1 4 Clemson 1,398 (4) 14 5 Georgia 1,331 (1) 6 6 Notre Dame 1,325 2 7 Oregon 1,236 (1) 3 8 Alabama 1,179 17 9 LSU 1,174 NR 10 Miami (FL) 889 18 11 Arizona State 791 7 12 Illinois 713 16 13 South Carolina 667 19 14 Michigan 662 NR 15 Florida 626 NR 16 SMU 565 12 17 Kansas State 512 NR 18 Oklahoma 463 NR 19 Texas A&M 434 NR 20 Indiana 423 10 21 Ole Miss 370 11 22 Iowa State 309 15 23 Texas Tech 274 NR 24 Tennessee 192 9 25 Boise State 191 8 One can expect Oregon to rise quickly in the poll as the Ducks play through the schedule. While there are a bunch of traps within that schedule, the only team that shines above the rest is that Sept. 27 night game at Penn State. It could be a game that features two Top 5 teams in the nation. Oregon, somehow, misses the Buckeyes and the Michigan Wolverines on the schedule, but fans are hoping that rematch with Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship game comes to fruition. 'Inevitable' champions Hibs will be targets

Scotland striker Eilidh Adams says it's "inevitable" that her Hibernian side will have a target on their back after surprising many by winning the Scottish Women's Premier League last season. But the 21-year-old says they believe they are "good enough to compete" - and are capable of doing it again - as they prepare to start the new campaign against Aberdeen on Sunday, live on BBC Alba. Adams described the previous campaign as her "best yet at the club", with 24 goals in 32 appearances in all competitions helping Hibs to secure an "incredible" title on the final day. "We're the champions. Everyone will want to beat us," Adams told BBC Scotland. "And, if they do, it's a massive thing." Scotland's Galactica & Ballon d'Or nominee walks in footsteps of Zidane Hibs triumphed 1-0 against Rangers on the final day last season to claim their first league title in 18 years. Glasgow City and Celtic, who finished second and fourth, respectively, will have title aspirations this time around, as will Hibs' city rivals Hearts. However, Adams says the continuity in Grant Scott's squad will stand the champions in good stead. "I think obviously we've got quite a similar squad, we've not brought in too many new faces, which I do think helps," Adams said. "You don't need to go through that period of getting a team to get to know each other. "I think it's just about kind of doing what we did last season. And obviously we've got a belief now, quite a lot of belief, given what we achieved last season, that we're good enough to compete and why not do it again?" Adams admits she is expecting stiff competition this season, especially after the league was reduced from 12 teams to 10. "Every season it seems to get more competitive, which is brilliant," she said. "But we know it's an extremely difficult task and nobody's really done that recently, retain the title. "When I was first joined, there was very much a gap between the teams. But season on season, it's just improved. And, as a player, as a spectator, it's brilliant. "I expect this season to be even more competitive and more exciting than last season." Get the latest WSL news on our dedicated page
