LOS ANGELES - This week, an exclusive sit-down interview with legendary actor and activist Jane Fonda.
We meet up with her in Santa Barbara, the site of her latest environmental fight.
Fonda is trying to stop Sable Oil Corporation from restarting production on the Santa Barbara channel. It stopped in 2015 after a massive oil pipeline rupture near the Refugio state beach.
Fonda joined fellow actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus and other environmentalists in holding a rally to "stop Sable." Many of them also attended a public meeting featuring leaders on both sides of the issue.
In this special edition of "The Issue Is:," we talk to Fonda, Louis-Dreyfus, a representative from Sable, and California's Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot about the issue of oil.
We also have a broader conversation with Fonda about activism, her frustrations with Governor Newsom, lessons learned from Vietnam, the future of the Democratic Party, and some of her cultural favorites.

Maher compared Rogan's political transformation to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was also a liberal who ended up being "driven to the other camp by bad attitudes and bad ideas." Maher referenced a 2022 post on then-Twitter from Elon Musk in which he shared a chart depicting his feeling that the Democratic Party had moved too far to the left for him, rather than his ideology moving to the right. Rogan said that Democrats have moved so far that it "left a basically liberal centrist like him — now labeled a conservative," adding that he related to Musk's post. Maher also highlighted attempts by the left to cancel Rogan and Musk as a key reason they abandoned the party. "They tried real hard to cancel Rogan a few years ago — and when Elon hosted 'Saturday Night Live' in 2021, well before he was a Trumper — some of the cast gave him the cold shoulder for the sin of being rich," he recalled. Auburn basketball coach accuses Carville of spreading ‘hatred' with statements about Jewish donors
Auburn men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl sharply criticized Democratic strategist James Carville on Friday over his recent statements about wealthy Jewish donors who have left the Democratic Party. During an appearance on Fox News Channel, the accomplished coach and outspoken Israel advocate ripped Carville for saying earlier this week that wealthy Jewish people were not leaving the Democratic Party because of antisemitism, but rather because they just want a 'f—— tax cut' from the Republicans. 'When you say that wealthy Jews don't want to pay their taxes, that just commits to the Jew hatred and the things that are out there,' Pearl told anchor Bill Hemmer on 'America's Newsroom,' after shaking his head when the show played Carville's remarks. Carville made the comments during the Wednesday episode of his 'Politics War Room' podcast, bashing Jewish donors who decided to stop giving to Democratic politicians and instead donate to President Donald Trump's 2024 campaign after seeing the rash of antisemitism that has sprung up on college campuses and that some Democratic luminaries have supported. Whoopi Goldberg claims people keep telling her 'you can't elect a Black man' in America
"The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg claimed on Thursday that people aren't taking Maryland Gov. Wes Moore's presidential bid seriously because "you can't elect a Black man in America." Goldberg said that she is now questioning the Democratic Party because people are telling her that Americans aren't ready to elect a Black man to the presidency, despite the fact that former President Barack Obama was voted into the Oval Office twice. "I question the Republican Party, and I question the Democratic Party now," she said. "You know, you have someone like Wes Moore who is a perfect candidate… And people are saying, well, he, you know, you can't elect a black man. Why not?" The other co-hosts immediately pushed back on Goldberg's assertion, with Sunny Hostin noting, "We did it, twice!" Alluding to the fact that Obama — a Black man — had won the national election two times. Goldberg attempted to explain her reasoning, but was quickly cut off by the other co-hosts who expressed enthusiasm over the prospect of Moore serving as president. Shortly thereafter, Goldberg explained to the audience what she believes is necessary for "change to happen." "If we want change to happen, we're going to have to make it happen, because you're going to have to get out and vote," she asserted. "There's no way around it, you know?" Earlier on in the show, Goldberg claimed that while she's not an independent, she's also not a Republican or Democrat either. "There's no name for what I am," she claimed, drawing laughter from the audience. "There's no name. Because there are some things that fit what I want and some things that don't. And I am the crazy person who said, 'Why don't we have a Democratic president and a Republican vice president?'"
