Report: Jerry Jones fought stage 4 cancer battle for over decade
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed that he fought stage 4 melanoma for a decade, the Dallas Morning News reported.
Jones was contacted by the newspaper following a comment he made during the Netflix documentary, "America's Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys."
In the documentary, Jones referenced undergoing cancer treatments "about a dozen years ago," per the Dallas Morning News.
Jones said he underwent treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in 2010.
Jones, now 82, said he had four surgeries over the ensuing decade -- two involving his lungs, two involving his lymph nodes. He credits the experimental trial drug PD-1 (Programmed Cell Death Protein 1) for saving his life.
"I was saved by a fabulous treatment and great doctors and a real miracle (drug) called PD-1 (therapy)," Jones said. "I went into trials for that PD-1 and it has been one of the great medicines. I have no tumors."
Stage 4 melanoma means "cancer has spread beyond the skin to other organs, such as the lungs or liver," per the Mayo Clinic.
According to the Dallas Morning News, the drug helps the immune system "fight cancer cells by blocking PD-1, thus enabling T cells to better recognize and destroy cancer cells."

A group of over-50's walking cricket players say the sport is helping with their physical and mental health Walking Cricket Club meet every Friday for an indoor match of the sport, which is played with a soft ball at a walking pace. An MP has praised the opening of a new pharmacy in an area considered to be among the most "health-deprived" areas in the MP Alex McIntyre welcomed the opening and said the new facility would serve "local people who have been crying out for better pharmacy and health provision for years".Allied Pharmacy Podsmead opened on Scott Avenue last month, after what bosses described as a "long journey" with several obstacles to get it up and to Gloucestershire County Council, Podsmead ranks fourth in health deprivation in the county and is among the most deprived 10% of areas in the country. One in 10 pregnant women in Guernsey smoking at time of delivery
More than 10% of pregnant women in Guernsey said they were smoking at the time of delivery, new data says. Guernsey's Quitline and Public Health said last year, when 10.4% admitted smoking while pregnant, engagement with the smoking cessation service was "low, with women frequently declining appointments or not attending accepted appointments".The services added that further work was under way "to explore how we can improve the engagement of expectant women with services to help them quit smoking".Meanwhile, the UK reported a record low of 6.1% in the same year. The bailiwick levels were also up by 2.7% from the year bosses said pregnant women who were identified as smoking at the time of booking a maternity appointment or subsequent antenatal appointments were referred to the Quitline service on an opt-out appointments are then offered weekly for at least 12 weeks."The Quitline nurses understand that stopping smoking can feel daunting.
