Joy spread among orphans on Children's Day
In a touching display of goodwill, a Chinese company brought joy and hope to underprivileged children by donating essential supplies to an Islamabad orphanage, marking a special celebration of International Children's Day.
The China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (CSCEC) Pakistan branch extended a helping hand to the Islamabad China-Pakistan One Heart Step and Cure Home (ICOSH), gifting items worth Rs2 million, including school supplies, daily necessities, sports equipment and electrical appliances.
The contribution aims to enhance the living conditions and educational opportunities for children at the facility.
Established in 2023 by the Beijing One Heart Sphere Charity Foundation and the China-Pakistan Youth Exchange Community (CPYEC), ICOSH initially focused on assisting critically ill Pakistani patients seeking medical treatment in the capital.
Over time, it has expanded into a haven for disabled and seriously ill children, while also providing full-time care for 21 orphans, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday. Since its inception on May 28, 2023, ICOSH has supported over 130 orphans and children suffering from severe illnesses. The latest contribution from the Chinese company underscores the deepening friendship between China and Pakistan, reflecting the spirit of shared compassion and mutual support.
The donation ceremony was attended by Yang Guangyuan, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, who extended warm Children's Day greetings to the young residents.
"It is an honour to participate in this meaningful initiative," said Yang. "We hope this event marks a new chapter in deepening China-Pakistan humanitarian cooperation and inspires more social forces to contribute to this noble cause." Addressing the event, Wang Yaodong, CEO of CSCEC Pakistan, highlighted the company's long-standing commitment to social responsibility alongside infrastructure development.
Children at ICOSH also celebrated Children's Day with special activities, enjoying games and performances in a festive atmosphere.

Copper, other metals drop
LONDON: Prices of copper and other industrial metals fell on Friday, weighed down by a stronger dollar as investors sold risky assets after Israel attacked Iran. Benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange shed 1.3% to $9,573 a metric ton in official open-outcry trading, the weakest since June 3. The dollar index climbed and world stock markets tumbled after Israel launched a large-scale military strike on Iran. A firmer dollar makes commodities priced in the US currency more expensive for buyers using other currencies. 'The market is de-risking on copper and aluminium,' said Alastair Munro, senior base metals strategist at broker Marex. 'The key now will be whether the risk managers in the USA start to knock on the money managers' door saying you've got to reduce risk ahead of the weekend.' US Comex copper futures dropped 2.1% to $4.74 a lb, bringing the premium of Comex over LME copper to $875 a ton. Munro said much of the selling was by Commodity Trade Advisor (CTA) investment funds, which are largely driven by computer programs, while Chinese participants emerged at the lows to do some buying. In China, the most-traded aluminium contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) gained for the third straight day, up 0.4% at 20,425 yuan per metric ton, outperforming other SHFE metals. 'Aluminium, compared with the other metals, has been performing rather strongly recently as demand from the domestic market has been robust, while SHFE stocks have been declining,' a Hangzhou-based analyst from a futures company said. Aluminium stocks in SHFE warehouses fell to 110,001 tons in the week ended June 13, the lowest since February 2024, having tumbled by 54% since late March. Among other metals, LME aluminium gave up 1.2% in official activity to $2,486.50 a ton, zinc fell 1.8% to $2,594, lead slipped 0.6% to $1,984 and tin dropped 0.8% to $32,400, while nickel rose 0.2% to $15,170.

FPCCI condemns Israeli aggression against Iran
KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) has strongly condemned the Israeli aggression against Iran and expressed deep concern over the martyrdom of Iran's army chief, scientists, and civilians. In a statement, FPCCI Vice President Mohammad Aman Paracha said that first, there was an attack on Pakistan by India, and now Israel's assault on Iran highlights the weakness of the Muslim world. 'Iran is our neighbouring brotherly country, and our historical ties with it are unmatched,' he said. Aman Paracha pointed out that Israel has targeted Iran, Palestine, and Yemen, and warned that if the Muslim world fails to unite and continues to prioritize individual interests, Israel encouraged by the United States will expand its attacks to other Muslim nations as well. He added, 'Israel is committing atrocities against Palestinian children and is complicit in the destruction of Palestine. Its hands are stained with the blood of Palestinians, and now it is shedding the blood of the Iranian people. The people of Pakistan deeply mourn the loss of precious lives due to Israeli attacks.' Paracha stressed the urgent need for visible unity in the Islamic world, saying that all Muslim countries with ties to Israel should sever them immediately. He called for an emergency session of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) to formulate a collective strategy to counter Israel's aggression. He further stated that Israel's actions are a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law, and have shaken the conscience of humanity. These acts pose a serious threat to regional peace and global security, and will severely destabilize the region. Aman Paracha also endorsed Bilawal Bhutto's statement, urging the international community to immediately halt the war in the region. 'If treaties like the Indus Waters Treaty are weakened, regional peace will be at risk,' he added. Finally, he appealed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to instruct the Pakistani embassy in Iran to facilitate the safe return of Pakistani pilgrims currently in Iran.
