Bengaluru, Jul 29 (PTI) Karnataka Science and Technology Minister N S Boseraju on Tuesday said the state is set to witness a historic moment in India's scientific journey as the state government is all set to host Nobel laureates Duncan Haldane and David Gross for an exclusive dialogue on July 30.
The interaction precedes the nation's first-ever Quantum India Bengaluru Summit, scheduled on July 31 and August 1, officials said.
'Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, our government is laying the groundwork to position Karnataka as India's Quantum Capital. This dialogue with Nobel Laureates marks the beginning of a long-term roadmap to integrate quantum innovation into Karnataka's development blueprint," the Minister said in a statement.
With Bengaluru already recognised as the nation's innovation nucleus, Karnataka is accelerating efforts to harness quantum technologies for economic and social transformation.
From IT and aerospace to cutting-edge quantum frontiers, the state aims to strengthen its position on the global innovation map, he added.
According to him, the dialogue will facilitate high-level discussions between the Nobel Laureates and Karnataka's top officials, including the Principal Secretaries of Industries, IT and BT, and Higher Education. The exchange is expected to pave the way for advancing quantum research, infrastructure, and collaborations with global experts.
'The presence of Nobel Laureates at the Quantum India Bengaluru Summit underscores the international significance of the event, which will bring together global and national leaders in quantum science, placing Karnataka at the epicenter of India's quantum revolution," he added. PTI AMP ROH

Rahul Gandhi Says Govt Sent Arun Jaitley To 'Threaten' Him In 2020, But BJP Leader Died In 2019

Arun Jaitley passed away in August 2019, but Rahul Gandhi has attacked him, stating that the government sent him in 2020 to "threaten" him over farm laws. In a bizarre attack on BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who died in August 2019, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Saturday that the government sent the veteran politician to threaten him to stop opposing the farm laws. Notably, the three farm laws in question were brought in by the Centre in June 2020 as an ordinance, nearly a year after Jaitley's demise at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after a prolonged illness. The government had introduced the farm laws in June 2020 as ordinances and later passed them in Parliament in September 2020. Shooting on the shoulders of Jaitley, Rahul attacked the Centre for his opposition to the farm laws. Addressing the Annual Legal Conclave- 2025 in the national capital, Rahul described the alleged conversation with Jaitley and said, 'I remember when I was fighting the farm laws, Arun Jaitley ji was sent to me to threaten me. He told me 'if you carry on opposing the govt, fighting the farm laws, we will have to act against you". I looked at him and said 'I don't think you have an idea who you are talking to"." The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020, were repealed in November 2021 after massive protests by some farmers on the borders of the national capital. Arun Jaitley was a prominent member of Modi 1.0, during which he held key positions such as Defence Minister (from 26 May 2014 to 9 November 2014 and 13 March 2017 to 3 September 2017) and Finance Minister (2014 to 2019). He was the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha from 2009 to 2014 and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha from 2014 to 2019. He was also the Minister for Commerce and Industry and Law and Justice during the Vajpayee government. During the Modi government, he was a part of major economic reforms, such as the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, and Banking sector reforms. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Bengal govt commences outreach programme to address neighbourhood issues

Kolkata, Aug 2 (PTI) Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, the West Bengal government on Saturday launched a Rs 8,000-crore outreach programme to address local issues like setting up street lamps, improving road conditions and ensuring water supply across districts. The programme – Amader Para, Amader Samadhan (Our neighbourhood, our Solution) – is the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said while outlining the scheme on July 22. A task force headed by Chief Secretary Manoj Pant would monitor the programme, and district-level task forces have been formed as many camps started functioning on Saturday. 'We are sanctioning 10 lakh per booth. In total, the state government will be spending Rs 8000 crore on this programme. It will start on August 2," she had said. While these camps will be held for two months, there will be an administrative evaluation for 30 days, a government statement said. 'The implementation or addressing the issues raised by the people will take a period of three months from the day of launch," it said. In the Kolkata Municipal Corporation area, there is one camp for every two booths. 'We had seen that there are small teething issues plaguing a locality, which are too localised but need urgent attention. 'While local civic bodies, people's representatives and various agencies are there to look into various issues – like the setting up of a tap, need for an electric pole or ensure proper lighting in the area, this interactive initiative is an inclusive one where various things can be brought up for being sorted out under one umbrella," a senior government official said. Banerjee had said state government officials will be present on the ground to listen to the people's problems, and the centres will address these issues in a locality. 'You (citizen) can track schedule, status and progress at You decide how your booth's budget is spent," said the government advertisement on Saturday announcing the start of the outreach programme. The programme is rooted in the vision of a self-reliant Bengal, where the focus is not merely on delivery but on deep listening, transparency and collaboration, the statement said. Government officials will be physically present in every locality to listen to grievances, register demands, and oversee the process, which will likely span over two months, it said. 'The initiative is unprecedented in the history of India, and it reflects the state government's commitment to placing people at the heart of policymaking," another statement said earlier.
