Bethany fire: Check which popular hiking trails are closed as blazes spread to 10 acres

Hindustan Times11-06-2025
On Tuesday afternoon, a fast-moving brush fire broke out in Burbank.
Named the Bethany Fire, the flames were first reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. near Bethany Road and Amherst Drive, according to the Burbank Fire Department. Within the hour, the fire had already spread across 8 to 10 acres of dry brush and hillside.
Evacuation orders were issued for residents above Bel Aire Drive, specifically along Walnut Avenue, as well as the area surrounding the Bel Aire Ballfield, which includes Vista Ridge and Starlight Circle. The DeBell Golf Club was also cleared as a precaution. Meanwhile, homes located north of Kenneth Boulevard and west of Magnolia Boulevard were placed under an evacuation warning.

All hiking trails in the hills are currently off-limits, including Wildwood Canyon and the areas around the Stough Nature Centre, both of which are frequented by locals for hiking, dog walking, and scenic views of the San Fernando Valley.
'If you are on or near the hiking trails or in these recreation areas in the Burbank hills, please leave the area immediately,' the Burbank Police Department said. 'Officers are in the area to assist.'
Notably, the McCambridge Recreation Centre at 1515 North Glenoaks Boulevard was opened as an evacuation site for displaced residents.
Emergency crews from the Burbank Fire and Police Departments, along with the Los Angeles Fire Department, have been working on the scene to control the flames and assist residents.
Now, authorities are urging residents in and around the affected zones to prepare for possible evacuation. Precautionary steps include: Creating and maintaining defensible space around homes to guard against flying embers, packing an emergency bag with essential items, including important documents and medications, and monitoring evacuation routes and updates from local officials

Asia's wealthy investors seek more crypto in portfolios

By Summer Zhen and Rae Wee HONG KONG/SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Wealthy Asian families and family offices are ramping up their cryptocurrency investments, driven by the bullishness around digital assets, increased mainstream adoption and favourable regulatory developments in key markets. Wealth managers said they are receiving more enquiries, cryptocurrency exchanges have seen trading volumes surge and crypto funds are in huge demand as high-net-worth Asian investors seek more exposure. "We raised over $100 million in just a few months, and the response from LPs has been encouraging," said Jason Huang, founder of NextGen Digital Venture, referring to Limited Partners that represent high net-worth individuals. Huang launched a new long-short crypto equity fund, the Next Generation Fund II, in Singapore in late May, after winding down his first fund last year, which returned 375% in less than two years. "Our investors - mainly family offices and internet/fintech entrepreneurs, recognise the growing role of digital assets in diversified portfolios,' he said. Swiss investment bank UBS said some overseas Chinese family offices plan to raise their crypto exposure to around 5% of their portfolios. "Many second- and third-generation individuals of family offices are starting to learn about and participate in virtual currencies," said Lu Zijie, head of wealth management at UBS China. The surging interest comes on the back of strong cryptocurrency returns and favourable regulatory developments in the United States under President Donald Trump, such as the recently approved GENIUS Act. Bitcoin prices have been hitting record highs this month, surpassing $124,000. Hong Kong's recent passage of its stablecoin legislation has also fuelled a wave of crypto enthusiasm. "The momentum has definitely built, and I think it's a function of just general maturity of the asset class," said Saad Ahmed, head of Asia Pacific at crypto exchange Gemini. Wealth managers said the mindset among Asian clients has changed from merely wanting to have a small allocation to digital currencies a few years ago to now embracing it as a must-have in portfolios and exploring tools to optimise returns. "Last year, they (family offices) started to dip their feet into bitcoin they have begun to learn the difference of holding a token directly," said Zann Kwan, chief investment officer at Singapore-based Revo Digital Family Office. Lighthouse Canton, a Singapore-based wealth manager, said some more sophisticated family offices have started adopting market-neutral strategies, such as basis trades and arbitrage. Giselle Lai, associate investment director for digital assets at Fidelity International, said investors are increasingly treating bitcoin as a "portfolio diversifier" to hedge macro uncertainties, given its low correlation with stocks and bonds. Cryptocurrency exchanges have also benefitted from increased trading demand. The number of registered users at Hong Kong's HashKey Exchange surged 85% year-on-year by August 2025, the firm said. Total trading volumes at South Korea's three major exchanges grew 17% so far in 2025 over the same period of 2024, with average daily trading volumes rising more than 20%, according to research platform CryptoQuant. Q Precious & Battery Metals Corp. (QMET) Extends Nova Scotia Natural Hydrogen Discovery with Results up to 1,840 ppm

Expanded Sampling to the North and East Confirms Multiple High-Grade Hydrogen Zones Halifax, Nova Scotia--(Newsfile Corp. - August 21, 2025) - Q Precious & Battery Metals Corp. (CSE: QMET) (OTC Pink: BTKRF) (FSE: 0NB) ("QMET" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that its latest soil gas sampling results in the Apple River-Shulie-Sandy corridor has returned exceptional hydrogen concentrations, including 1,042 ppm, 1,064 ppm, 1,093 ppm, 1,153 ppm, 1,247 ppm and a peak of 1,840 ppm. These high-grade results come from an additional 200 samples collected to the north and east of the Company's previously announced discovery area, confirming continuity and expansion of multiple "hot zones" in this highly prospective corridor. The present hydrogen gas exploration program completes the preliminary sampling of QMET's most northern license located 2 km south of Joggins at the western margin of the Cumberland Basin. Additional sampling on extension of previously sampled lines was also added and completed on selected lines previously sampled within the more southern licenses. Fault structures mapped at surface in the southern part of the Cumberland Basin are not readily apparent in the northern licensed areas. A review and interpretation of seismic reflection data and well drill data in the adjacent region (Waldron et al.[1], Durling.[2]) indicate that important structures are present in the subsurface that are onlapped and covered by the overlying formations. The lateral mobilization of the thick evaporites-salt formation at the base of the Windsor Group led to the development of broad open synclines separated by narrow isoclinal anticlines cored by salt or thrust faults. Unconformities have been observed in seismic sections at the base of the youngest unit in the Cumberland Group which overlay deeply faulted lower parts of the Cumberland Group. These observations now need to be considered when evaluating the diffusive flow of Hydrogen gas in the sampling programs. The expanded program has identified 15 new samples exceeding 500 ppm hydrogen, reinforcing the exceptional scale potential of the discovery and validating the exploration model developed by QMET's strategic partner, Quebec Innovative Materials Corp. ("QIMC"), in collaboration with the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique ("INRS"). Management CommentaryRichard Penn, CEO of QMET, stated: "Placing these exceptional results into context, we are seeing an extension of our hydrogen-rich zones into new areas with grades among the highest recorded to date. The Apple River-Shulie-Sandy corridor continues to exceed our expectations, and with each phase of work, the case for a large-scale, clean natural hydrogen system becomes stronger. We will maintain our aggressive exploration pace alongside QIMC and INRS to advance this discovery toward drill-ready targets." Next StepsThe new data will be integrated into the Company's exploration model to refine priority targets for deeper subsurface testing and follow-up programs. The consistency of elevated hydrogen concentrations further supports Nova Scotia as a cornerstone of QMET's clean natural hydrogen strategy. QMET remains focused on supporting the responsible development of clean natural hydrogen resources and is proud to collaborate with both QIMC and INRS in expanding this next-generation energy opportunity. The Company looks forward to continued progress and shared success as the clean hydrogen sector evolves in Quebec and Nova Scotia. About Q Precious & Battery Metals Corp.
