EastEnders rushes to make major episode change as two huge events shake the nation
The residents of EastEnders ' Albert Square are often too caught up in their own lives to take notice of what's going on in the outside world - but this week, matters were too large to ignore.
This week saw the tragic death of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne at the age of 76. In the world of sport, England's Lionesses made it to the Euros finals once again beating Italy with a 2-1 win in an epic semi-final.
Despite the soap being filmed around 6 weeks in advance, the events seemed too major to not mention – with producers fitting in a scene at the last minute. It's not the first time the soap have done this. The same happened with the death of Michael Jackson and the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
On Thursday night, Elaine Peacock and Callum Highway were seen stopping for a chat outside the minute mart, as they discussed the results of Tuesday night. As Callum asked Elaine how she was coping after Kat took over the Vic, Elaine responded: "Well, I can't be too down after that England match. I mean, 2-1?"
"I'm going to tell you something, there's going to be a lot of kids named Michelle and Chloe in nine months time," she said, referencing players Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly who scored the winning goals for the team.
However, it wasn't the only current affairs event the soap slipped in. Other fans noticed that the soap played a Black Sabbath song in the background, in the wake of Ozzy Osbourne's tragic death. The song Paranoid could be heard in the background of the market.
Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter to show their appreciation to the soap for the last minute scene. "Love it when they do these," praised one fan. "Can't be easy!"
Another commented: "A beautiful last minute scene! The tribute to Ozzy Osbourne following his death and the nod to the Lionesses making the final of the Euros! Love it when #EastEnders do scenes like this."
"I love how #EastEnders added a blink and you'll miss it tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne," a third wrote, while another agreed: "omg i loved that new scene put in between callum and elaine, nice touch with ozzy playing in the background."

Social media is ablaze with celebrations and congratulatory messages following the Lionesses' historic win in the Euro 2025 final. Tonight, England took on Spain live from St Jakob-Park in Basel, Switzerland, in the hopes of replicating their Euro 2022 success against Germany at Wembley. And boy did they, as Sarina Wiegman's squad triumphed over their former rivals, having lost to Spain once before in the World Cup final. With no intention of admitting defeat at any point, the 1-1 game was taken to penalties, which led to England thrashing their opponents 3-1 and going on to lift that glorious trophy. It's safe to say the scenes were emotional as the Lionesses pulled one another into hugs and wiped away tears after Alex Greenwood, Niamh Charles, and Chloe Kelly scored in their shoot-outs, causing the stadium to erupt. Latitude Festival halts set as Lionesses win Euros 2025 in nail-biting penalties
There was time for both music and sport on Sunday as long-running festival Latitude paused performances so fans could watch England triumph over Spain at the 2025 Women's European Championship Music fans were happy to press pause at Latitude festival - delaying the start of Elbow's set in order to watch the England team win the Women's European Championship final on Sunday afternoon. Leah Williamson led her team to victory against Spain - to the delight of fans. Latitude Festival has been thrilling fans since 2006 with music and arts on display for ticketholders. But on Sunday, attention was diverted to big screens specially erected to show the sporting fixtures. Signage explained where fans could congregate to watch the championship final - where England triumphed over Spain with a 3-1 victory. Tension was high as the game ultimately turned to penalties - with Alessia Russo, Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton scoring goals for the England team. Mariona Caldentey had scored the first goal of the match - putting Spain into an early lead but after England equalised, and extra time proved fruitless, it was the tense penalty shoot out that saw the game finally end. Those at Latitude were glad that bands decided to put down their instruments in order to watch the match. One gushed on X: "Shout out to Latitude Festival delaying the sets to show the football." Meanwhile, fans were told via signs: "Celebrate the lionesses' big day. Cheer on the lionesses as we screen the game at the comedy arena and on the big screen we've set up between the taphouse and second stage. Please note, capacity will be limited and viewing will be available on a first come, first served basis." The final of the Euro cup went on for an agonising 120 minutes of play before the final result was reached. Prince William, who is patron of the Football Association, and Princess Charlotte were among those watching at the St. Jakob‑Park stadium in Basel, Switzerland, where the final played out. Young Princess Charlotte, 10, went through a range of emotions as she watched on. The royal was spotted clasping her head during tense moments and cheering at the final results. Before kick-off, a photo of the Prince and Princess was shared via official royal family social media accounts alongside a simple message reading: "Let's go, Lionesses." They brought good luck to the team - who charged to victory in the end. Many celebrities took to social media to congratulate Leah Williamson and her team. Alan Carr and Amanda Holden were among those going wild with celebrations. The duo were seen on Amanda's Instagram Story singing It's Coming Home with drinks in their hands.
