Fariz Jabba, Nash.D and Prav Debut Road to FAM Series in Singapore

Hypebeast30-05-2025
Following a high-octane sold-out show in Manila,88rising'sFuture Asian Music(FAM) andLevi's®kept the vibes high as the show continued in Singapore. The series is both a celebration of local emerging talent as well as the anniversary of the 501® jeans, a wardrobe staple that has been embedded in pop culture since 1873.
Keeping the party alive, the tour traveled to Singapore's Hard Rock Cafe on May 16th.Fariz Jabba, a musical storyteller who marries hip-hop and urban Southeast Asian sounds, hit the stage with his longtime dancers to perform his viral tracks, like 'Ape Sia.' Jabba was accompanied by DJs Nash.D andPrav, who prepared the crowd for an unforgettable night of live music.
The two mixed throwbacks with 2010s hits before Jabba took to the stage in a customized Levi's® ensemble created byYouths in Balaclava, a local Singaporean brand. 'The outfit draws from the concept of destruction and rebirth — where scars aren't hidden but celebrated. We used denim repair techniques and signature silver hardware to embody that narrative,' says brand co-founder, Kash, 'We've come to understand [Jabba's] style and energy deeply. Watching him perform in custom YIB x Levi's® was both a relief and a reward. Every stitch carried intention, and seeing it come alive on stage made it all worthwhile.'
The look displayed a trench coat with bespoke denim patchwork — a one-of-one outfit for a one-of-a-kind performance. The musician opened up the night with his tracks 'X Games,' 'Serak' and 'Kalah,' before dedicating an intimate ballad to his fiancée, titled 'Stargirl.' For this set, he revealed a mix of his discography, traveling back to the past sonically, while also proving that the future is bright for other Singaporean rising artists.
Alongside the music, an exclusive Levi's® Tailor Shop was created for the event, so guests could purchase their own merch and personalize it with customized patches by local studioTell Your Children.
The Road to FAM will continue next in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, and it will be documented through a mini docu-series that follows each artists progress and aims to amplify their audiences on a global level. Learn more about the series atfutureasianmusic.com.

The Block judges slam team over 'upmarket nursing home' room

After facing a series of setbacks and unique challenges in the first week of the competition, this year's contestants on The Block were handed a mammoth task in week two. Not only did they have to renovate two kids bedrooms, but they also had to upholster a bedhead that would be showcased in one of the rooms. There was plenty on the line this week, with the winners receiving around $175,000 worth of appliances from e&s in addition to the $10,000 prize. With all five teams having the exact same layout, timeframe, and suggested budget of $15,000, here's what they each presented to the judges. They received some criticism in their second room for the functionality and wall panelling, which was a 'last-minute mistake' because they didn't have enough wallpaper. 'They delivered exactly what I would expect from a Block bedroom,' Darren Palmer remarked. Shaynna Blaze said their styling was 'not functional', 'overwhelming', and 'too much', but complimented the cloud bedhead, artwork and furniture. 'It's different, it's igniting. These girls have creativity, and they've gone out on a limb,' Shaynna shared. They had a similar reaction to the second bedroom, and Shaynna said they were nailing the modern contemporary country theme. 'It feels extremely luxurious, it'll shoot beautifully. I truly believe this has been hit out of the ball park,' Marty Fox said, adding that the level of sophistication was similar to 2023 champions Steph and Gian. They also argued that the couple missed the brief in the second bedroom and didn't design it for kids; however, Sonny and Alicia said they were playing the long game and want to appeal to a broad range of buyers. 'I am enamoured with everything I see on that wall and in front of it. I'm really, really impressed,' Darren gushed. The judges said their first bedroom had a great 'sense of fun', but their second bedroom was like walking into an 'upmarket nursing home', 'Boys, what have you done?' Shaynna questioned. 'It's gone to a very old styling aesthetic.' Ultimately, it was Britt and Taz who took out the win with a score of 28, with Emma and Ben coming in second place on 25.5. Here's a look inside Disney Adventure, the company's largest cruise ship ever

Disney's largest cruise ship, Disney Adventure, will sail out of Singapore in December. Disney CEO Bob Iger said it's a chance for Disney's IP to "float" into the Southeast Asia market. The ship will have several attractions, including the "longest roller coaster at sea." Disney's betting big on Asia. CEO Bob Iger said Disney Adventure, the company's largest ship to date, is a real chance to expand into the Southeast Asian market. During Disney's Q3 earnings call, he described Disney Adventure as a floating ambassador for the company's intellectual property. "This will give us an opportunity to basically sell, or float, the Disney brand in all of its glory into a region that we think has huge Disney brand affinity," Iger said during Disney's Q3 earnings call. Disney Cruise Line has become an increasingly integral to the company's experiences division. It earned $347.3 million in profits last year, a notable step up from the $180.5 million earned in 2023. Disney Adventure is the seventh ship in Disney Cruise Line's fleet after Disney Wish set sail in 2022 and Disney Treasure in 2024. It can house an estimated 2,500 crew members and 6,700 passengers. Passengers on Disney Adventure will spend three to four nights immersed in their favorite Pixar, Marvel, and Disney stories. Disney Adventure, which sets sail on December 15, is dedicated to sea days. Here's a look at Disney Adventure. Wayfinder Bay is one of seven themed areas on Disney Adventure. Disney went all in when designing its first cruise ship with a homeport in Asia. Disney Adventure houses seven themed areas: Disney Imagination Garden, Town Square, San Fransokyo Street, Toy Story Place, Disney Discovery Reef, Marvel Landing, and Wayfinder Bay. Wayfinder Bay is an outdoor space inspired by Disney's "Moana" that features a bar and wading pool. The pool area doubles as a performance venue where guests can watch live shows like "Moana: Call of the Sea." Take a splash in Disney Discovery Reef. Disney Discovery Reef, a themed area in the back of the ship, draws from films like "The Little Mermaid" and "Finding Nemo" to explore the company's underwater stories. This area features numerous shopping and food options for guests, including Palo Café, a coffee bar inspired by the coastal town in Pixar's "Luca." Marvel fans can also find Cosmic Kebabs, a restaurant serving pitas and kebabs inspired by Marvel's "Ms. Marvel." The Avengers are on display at Marvel Landing. Disney Adventure is bringing Marvel superheroes to the sea. Marvel Landing is on the ship's upper deck, where three attractions are available to guests: Groot Galaxy Spin, Pym Quantum Racers, and Ironcycle Test Run. Ironcycle Test Run is Disney's first-ever cruise ship roller coaster. It's also the "longest roller coaster at sea" at over 820 feet long, according to the company. Woody and the "Toy Story" gang hang out on the upper deck. Fans of Disney's "Toy Story" franchise will feel right at home on Disney Adventure. Toy Story Place is a water wonderland for families with several options, including Sunnyside Family Pool, the Flying Saucer Splash Zone, and whirlpools. The area also welcomes passengers to zoom down Woody and Jessie's Wild Slides. San Francisco meets Tokyo in an area inspired by "Big Hero 6." Disney Adventure will feature an area that combines the "vibrant energy" of Tokyo with the "laid-back charm of San Francisco" in a nod to "Big Hero 6." Passengers can visit San Fransokyo Street to catch a film at Baymax Cinemas or participate in an immersive training simulator at the Big Hero Arcade. They can also stop by Duffy and Friends Shop and enter the Duffy and Friends Discovery Quest, which asks passengers to use clues to find lost items and potentially win a prize. Disney Adventure has multiple dining options for passengers. The cruise ship has two entertainment restaurants, including Hollywood Spotlight Club, where passengers can dine while interacting with Disney characters like Daisy Duck and Mickey Mouse. Other options include the Enchanted Summer Restaurant, inspired by Disney's Tangled and Frozen films, and Pixar Market Restaurant, which pays homage to the studios' films. Mowgli's Eatery, Stitch's 'Ohana Grill, Bewitching Boba and Brews, and Mike & Sulley's — Flavors of Asia are also places to try. Disney Adventure has venues geared for adults. Although Disney Adventure offers family fun, specific venues were made for the 18+ crowd. Palo Trattoria is an adults-only Italian restaurant between Disney Discovery Reef and Wayfinder Bay. Inspired by the "Peter Pan" villain Captain Hook, Buccaneer Bar is a lounge where adults can unwind and relax. Watch a production or two at the Walt Disney Theatre. The Walt Disney Theatre will put on two productions for passengers on Disney Adventure. "Remember" is a musical starring the robots from Disney-Pixar's "Wall-E" and other characters. "Disney Seas the Adventure" is a musical featuring songs and characters from Disney's catalog. The theatre is in Town Square, which is inspired by Disney's vast collection of princesses and fairy tales. Sweat it out with Baymax in the Disney Imagination Garden. The Disney Imagination Garden, another themed area, features a stage with three deck screens. Among the interactive shows appearing on that stage is the Baymax Super Exercise Expo, a musical exercise show inspired by "Big Hero 6." Passengers can also watch shows like Captain Jack Sparrow & the Siren Queen and Mickey's Color Spin Dance Party. After a long day, get some sleep in one of Disney Adventure's staterooms. Disney said most staterooms include a split-bathroom concept, elevated bed frames, and a menu highlighting essentials for families with small children. "Each stateroom will feature thoughtful amenities, family-friendly conveniences and special Disney touches," the company said in a blog post. Passengers looking for a particularly elegant trip can take advantage of the concierge experience, which offers exclusive perks like priority boarding.

Richard Gere Returns to U.S. After Facing Fury From Paul Simon's Daughter Over Demolition of Her $10.75 Million Childhood Home

Hollywood superstar Richard Gere has returned to the U.S. from his home in Spain—just weeks after he was publicly slammed by the daughter of music legend Paul Simon over his decision to sell her historic childhood home, which has since been demolished. Gere, 75, was pictured strolling through John F. Kennedy Airport on Aug. 7 with a suitcase in tow, keeping a low profile in sweatpants, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap. Photos published by the Daily Mail showed the "Pretty Woman" star wheeling his own luggage through the terminal, while also carrying a bright yellow tote bag and a guitar. Gere's return to the U.S. comes nine months after he and his wife, Alejandra, relocated to Spain from their home in Connecticut—a move that the actor revealed they made so that his spouse, who hails from the European country, could be closer to family. Yet their move became mired in controversy in July when Lulu Simon, the daughter of crooner Paul and his wife, Edie Brickell, issued a withering takedown of Gere—who purchased her childhood home from the singer in 2022. In May, exclusively revealed that the developer to whom Gere then sold the home for $10.75 million in November 2024 was razing the property in order to make way for a nine-plot subdivision. This news appears to have enraged Lulu, 30, who blasted the decision in several posts shared to her Instagram Stories last month. "Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere—I do!" she wrote alongside a picture of herself flashing a peace sign at the camera. "He bought my childhood home," she went on. "Promised he would take care of the land as [a] condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in and just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots. "Hate! Him!" she concluded the post, which also featured a news story about Gere's real estate deal. Lulu then continued her tirade with a rather sinister warning for Gere, sharing an image of the actor surrounded by photos of her late pets, while writing: "I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness." Both posts were deleted around 18 hours after they were first shared, and Lulu has not commented publicly on the messages since. Gere has also remained silent over the controversy, and in the weeks since appears to have been soaking up his quiet life in Madrid with his wife and their children. Meanwhile, the demolition of the six-bedroom mansion in which Lulu spent her childhood is already well underway, after local salvage company Hudson Valley House Parts of Newburgh, NY, was called in to save the most historic parts of the 1938 dwelling back in May. At the time, the company's founder, Reggie Young, told that he felt it was "a real shame" the house was being razed, noting: "Once the stuff is gone, it's never coming back." Still, Young and his team managed to salvage several of the most stunning features in the home, including two steel nautical-motif, midcentury bay windows; a limestone mantel and a marble mantel; Colonial window sashes; a complete cerused oak library with a bowed fireplace and wall paneling with built-ins; exterior stone steps with an iron railing and a portico; and the entire entryway with the arched jamb, door surround, and paneled walls. The company shared images and video of that process online—with several users lamenting the destruction of such an historic estate. "This is like watching a horror movie," one person wrote. "So sad this is being dismantled but grateful you're saving it for a new use." Gere purchased the home from the "Mrs. Robinson" crooner and his wife, Edie Brickell, in the summer of 2022 and had originally planned to turn a large portion of its expansive grounds into a farm, according to details shared during a local planning and zoning commission meeting in 2023. But in April, those plans seemed to have been put on hold when Gere told Vanity Fair Spain that he wanted to relocate his entire family to the European country so that his Spanish-born wife could be closer to her family. "It is a beautiful place, the food is extraordinary and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy," he told the outlet. "I'm looking forward to going there. "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers. "I love Spain and the ability of the Spanish people to live transmitting joy and happiness." While it's unclear why Gere—who turns 76 on Aug. 31—has returned to the U.S., his wife has previously explained that the couple were always planning to retain a residence in the actor's home country, revealing that they were only ever planning to make Spain their home "for a few years." At the time, she added that they had already signed their kids up for summer camp in the U.S., which may explain Gere's return this month. "For a few years [we'll live in Spain], and then come back. But we're always coming back. We'll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here," she told the Daily Mail. Gere also confirmed during his interview with Vanity Fair Spain that he was holding onto property in the U.S., telling the outlet that they owned a dwelling "in the countryside near New York," although he did not specify where. Over the years, Gere has bought and sold numerous homes in the greater New York area, offloading a 50-acre Westchester estate for $28 million back in May 2022. TV-series runner Ryan Murphy was later revealed as the buyer. Six years earlier, he had listed his Hamptons property, a picture-perfect home in Sag Harbor, NY, which was initially listed for $65 million. Two years later, he wed Silva, and the pair have since welcomed two sons together. Gere also has an older son, Homer, now 24, from his marriage to second wife Carey Lowell, while Silva shares a son, Albert, 11, with her ex-spouse, Govind Friedland. Since their big move, Gere has gushed about how much he "loves" their new life—while also slamming the way in which the U.S. has changed under the leadership of President Donald Trump, leading many to suggest that he might never return. In an interview with Spanish publication El Pais, he further elaborated on those views while discussing his views on kindness. "If each of us were kind to each other, the world would be different and better. Not all of us respond to wisdom, but we all respond to kindness," Gere told the publication. "Even in the case of Trump, I'm sure there is something kind about him. People say he's charming in private. "Yet the world he's created around himself is violent, crude, and ignorant. Many of the things he's doing we've never seen before." When asked whether he believes that Trump's second term in office could "irreversibly change the values of U.S. society," the actor admitted that he "worries" about it—claiming that the president is "cut off from" society's natural sense of empathy.
