'Largest Princess Diana auction' features frocks, hats and bags

Reuters09-06-2025
NEWBRIDGE, Ireland, June 9 (Reuters) - From colourful frocks and hats to handbags and shoes, items belonging to the late Princess Diana go under the hammer this month in what Julien's Auctions says is the largest collection of her fashion to go to auction.
The live and online "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" sale will take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, offering an array of fashion items Diana wore.
"This is the largest Princess Diana auction because we have over 100 items from her amazing life and career...keeping in mind Diana herself...sold over 70 of her dresses...back in 1997 to raise money for her charity," Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of Julien's Auctions, told Reuters on Monday. He was speaking at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge in Ireland during a pre-sale exhibition.
Among the highlights is a 1988 silk floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, dubbed the "caring dress" because Diana wore it several times on hospital visits, with a price estimate of $200,000-$300,000.
A cream silk embroidered evening gown Catherine Walker designed for Diana's 1986 Gulf tour has a similar price tag, while a Bruce Oldfield two-piece yellow floral ensemble she wore for Royal Ascot in 1987 is estimated at $100,000-$200,000.
Other sale items include a Dior handbag gifted to her by former French first lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995, a sketch of Diana's 1981 wedding dress with tulle fabric cut-offs from when she married then Prince Charles in 1981 and a peach hat she wore for her honeymoon send-off.
The auction also includes pieces belonging to other British royals including the late Queen Elizabeth II and the queen mother.
Nolan said Julien's Auctions had previously sold a dress belonging to Diana for $1.14 million.
"People do consider these items as an asset class now, because if people own these items today, chances are in years to come they will sell them for more than what they pay for (at) auction," he said.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of Diana's items will go to charity Muscular Dystrophy UK.
The pre-sale exhibition in Newbridge will run until June 17.

Pregnant Rihanna covers her growing baby bump with a white shirt during outing in Beverly Hills as she prepares to welcome her third child

Pregnant Rihanna showed off her impeccable style while running errands in Beverly Hills on Friday. The singer, 37, covered her growing baby bump with a white button-up shirt, teamed with blue jeans and small heels. She completed the effortlessly stylish look with Valentino sunglasses, a matching bandana, and chunky gold jewellery. The Savage Fenty founder stepped out of a black vehicle and was joined by an entourage. Rihanna is currently expecting her third child with her boyfriend, rapper ASAP Rocky, with whom she already shares sons RZA, three, and Riot, nearly two. The nine-time Grammy winner revealed her pregnancy news when she showed off her baby bump at the Met Gala back in May. Just last week, she dished on motherhood as she is expecting her third baby. She told Access Hollywood that her 'two princes' RZA and Riot have a ton of energy that wear her out when she attended the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles. She is the voice actor for Smurfette in the new animated musical-comedy film and brought along her kids for the red carpet event ahead of the movie's release. It comes just days after the singer attended her father's funeral in her native country of Barbados - after he passed away at the age of 70 on May 30 following a battle with pancreatic cancer and accompanying complications. During an interview with Extra at the Smurfs premiere, she opened up about her little ones joining her at the screening. 'I'm excited for tonight. Tonight is going to be fun. We get to watch the movie together for the first time. I get to watch it in its full completion. So, that should be interesting,' she expressed. When questioned how RZA and Riot feel about another addition to their growing family, Rihanna said they were 'delighted' followed by laughter. However, she remained coy when asked if she was possibly going to welcome a baby girl. 'You'll have to wait and see,' the Love On The Brain hitmaker said, but later said that she has 'always wanted a girl.' And then when asked if the name of her third child could also start with the letter 'R,' Rihanna replied, 'I mean, of course. It's tradition at this point.' Meanwhile, Rocky appeared to accidentally reveal the gender of their third child while attending the world premiere of her film Smurfs held at Mont des Arts in Brussels, Belgium. When ET 's Kevin Frazier asked the 36-year-old rapper 'Is that the girl you've been waiting for' he immediately replied: 'It is, man, it is.' Feeling cornered, A$AP (born Rakim Athelaston Mayers) then held up a plush Smurfette doll and redirected: 'Right here, you know what I'm saying? Right here.' The star's appearance at the screening this weekend comes after she flew to Barbados to attend her father Ronald Fenty's funeral which was held in Barbados. A source told that Rihanna - whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty - has been deeply saddened by her dad's passing.

The 'worst show the BBC has ever broadcast' returns TONIGHT - just months after the controversial series had its lowest ratings ever

The fifth series of Mrs Brown's Boys will return to our screens this Friday (1 August 2025) - just months after the controversial series had its lowest ratings. It comes after the return of the BBC show was confirmed last month - despite pleas from viewers and scandal surrounding the show's creator. Mrs Brown's Boys, created and written by Brendan O'Carroll, hit BBC One in 2011. The programme has gone on to air 51 episodes across four seasons on the channel. BBC iPlayer's synopsis reads: 'Loud-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes Brown's favourite pastime is meddling in the lives of her six children. Sauciness and slapstick.' It stars the likes of Brendan O'Carroll, Jennifer Gibney, Eilish O'Carroll, Danny O'Carroll, Rory Cowan, Fiona O'Carroll, Pat Shields, Paddy Houlihan and Amanda Woods. Although the programme is returning this evening at 9:30pm, the sitcom has definitely received mixed reviews over the years, with many failing to connect with its humour. One previously wrote on X: 'Worst programme in human history should've never been commissioned.' 'Just speechless... I honestly don't know one person who thinks this show is remotely funny.' 'I don't know anyone who will admit to liking, or even just watching, this show.' Despite that others have recently shared their praise over the show, with one saying: 'Love love love Mrs Brown's Boys.' 'MRS BROWNS BOYS IS BACK TOMORROW.' 'Can't wait for it. If that humor isn't for you, don't watch it. It's been on long enough now to know what to expect, yet people still choose to watch it anyway.' Mrs Brown's Boys was last on our screens during the festive period. The 2024 Christmas special saw its ratings plummet to the lowest ever, with viewers claiming it 'ruined' their holiday spirit. The sitcom attracted a measly 2.2m viewers on Christmas Day, which was a huge drop from the 11.5m who turned into the show's 2013 December 25 special. While Mrs Brown's Boys struggled in the ratings, elsewhere on BBC1, Gavin and Stacey: The Finale was the most watched show of the festive season with 12.5m, while Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl attracted 9.5m. The latest episode of Mrs Brown's Boys, which has previously been described as 'marmite television ', saw the Irish matriarch trying to convince her family that she was not grumpy like Scrooge, but those at home described it as 'spectacularly unfunny'. And while the TV show has certainly ruffled a lot of feathers, creator and star Brendan made a brutal comeback to the negative comments. Speaking on the Conversations with Gerry Kelly podcast back in 2024, Brendan said: 'The ones that love me, I love them, and the ones that don't, f*** them.' The return was announced back in July. The BBC said: 'Agnes Brown and the gang from Finglas are back! 'Everyone's favourite Irish Mammy returns for a brand new fifth series featuring all your favourite characters, so get ready for more slapstick shenanigans this spring!' While BBC comedy boss John Petrie said: 'Brendan has created an iconic comedy character in Agnes Brown. 'Mrs. Brown's Boys is a BAFTA-winning comedy show and one of the BBC's most- watched comedies ever.

Molly-Mae Hague's breakdown over parenting struggles causes 'tension with Fury family in-laws as bitter row brews'

Molly-Mae Hague 's breakdown over her parenting struggles has reportedly caused tension with her partner Tommy Fury 's family. The multi-millionaire, 26, is completely unfiltered when it comes to opening up about her struggles of being a mother to their two-year-old daughter, Bambi. Earlier this week, Bambi's temper tantrum led Molly-Mae to film herself breaking down in tears in despair. Crying in her car, the star admitted: 'I'm trying so so hard to stay positive but, I feel like I need to keep my camera running all day so you can see like every single thing, [Bambi] is a huge problem, [She] screams [I] can't even get like socks and shoes on.' 'I'm sorry, I'm so embarrassed,' Molly-Mae added as she opened up about the 'huge problems' she faces as a mum of one. Now reports are claiming that the outburst has 'ruffled feathers' with her Irish Traveller in-laws. They are said to be used to the no-nonsense attitude of Paris Fury - the wife of Tommy's brother Tyson - who has seven children, according to The Sun. A source told the publication: 'Within the Travelling community, having a big family with lots of children is the norm. 'They care about her so much and are concerned, but also worried about how publicly she's venting about motherhood. 'The family are used to Paris's attitude of being able to work, run the house and bring up her seven kids with Tyson without complaint.' The source added that while the family have been reaching out to her to support her, Molly-Mae voicing her struggles has 'surprised' them. DailyMail has contacted Molly-Mae's and Tommy's representatives for comment. Last week, fans blasted the TV personality for 'always moaning' after she said she'd 'not done one fun thing all summer' despite jetting off to multiple destinations. She said in her vlog: 'I said to a friend the other day, that I'm going to make it to the end of summer having not done one fun thing.' She then spoke to her sister and said: 'Zoe, I haven't socialised once. I'm going to get to the end of this summer having not done one social fun thing. 'I haven't a life. That's not good is it. Summer will end and I've not done one fun social thing.' It left some fans open-mouthed as they called out how she failed to acknowledge the three holidays she's already been on this year. Some comments read: 'She's a millionaire, she can literally wake up tomorrow and do whatever the hell she wants', 'Wimbledon, lunches, Spain, Dubai, France, Centre Parcs... let's normalise that', 'This was so jarring because she can casually spend 6k in Dior on an outfit to log to Wimbledon then complains she has no time for herself', 'Why does she always want us to feel sorry for her?' The mum-of-one - in this year alone - has been on no-expense-spared trips to Dubai, Budapest and even Disneyland in 2025. Back in March, she and Tommy Fury took baby Bambi on a family holiday to the United Arab Emirates, marking a reunion holiday for the clan. Just a month later, Tommy had treated Molly to a European trip as the pair enjoyed downtime in Budapest. During their break, they stayed at The Pullman, a five-star hotel where prices start from at least £500 per night. Meanwhile, in May, the doting parents took Bambi to Disneyland Paris where they enjoyed a lavish stay at the park's resort. It came after her candid complaints about a recent £86,000 motorhome holiday her family went on - after Tommy said their daughter Bambi shouldn't be spoilt with five star trips. The family were travelling on a swanky Elddis Avalon 255 motorhome. Yet Molly-Mae revealed the trip had been struck with delays, leaving Bambi 'overtired and overstimulated'. She explained: 'Tommy has bought a motorhome and we spent our first weekend in the motorhome this weekend. Obviously, being us, we went in feet first and decided to go to the Isle of Man. 'Tommy's family were spending the weekend in the Isle of Man. I was feeling spontaneous so we literally booked the ferry to the Isle of Man an hour before we needed to leave. 'We'd never used the motorhome before, we needed to pack it up, sort Bambi, I just had this wave of 'you only live once, have a bit of fun. 'Bambi doesn't need to be so perfectly routine every day, she's not a newborn anymore. 'I've got so stuck in my ways with the fact that her routine is her routine and I don't really steer away from it. 'I'm not gonna feel bad for that because that is what works for me and that is what works for Bambi and Tommy, so that's fine.' She then added of when things started to go wrong: 'So anyway, booked the ferry, packed the motorhome up and nearly didn't make the ferry but that's another story and then there was a two hour delay. 'This ferry, which was already gonna get us in at 11:30pm, which was already severely triggering me because Bambi goes to bed at 7pm, was not fine. It was giving me a prime example as to why the routine works for us. 'It was one of those moments where strangers come up to you and are like 'can I help? Is there anything I can do?' 'She was screaming that much for four hours straight. The boat basically had a malfunction and it wouldn't move for like two hours so we had a huge delay. 'She was so, so, so overtired and overstimulated - Bambi is so routine, she is the opposite of flexible.' And when they arrived things continued to go downhill, as she said: 'We managed to get to the Isle of Man at 1:30am in the morning. 'We didn't know where we were, what we were doing, we were going to a different campsite to Tommy's family. It was just a lot. 'We had to make our bed out of this sofa, I was like 'I'm really out of my depth, I'm struggling. The next day, Bambi was so tired, she was just screaming, literally screaming, so, so unhappy.
