'Largest Princess Diana auction' features frocks, hats and bags
The live and online "Princess Diana's Style & A Royal Collection" sale will take place on June 26 at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, offering an array of fashion items Diana wore.
"This is the largest Princess Diana auction because we have over 100 items from her amazing life and career...keeping in mind Diana herself...sold over 70 of her dresses...back in 1997 to raise money for her charity," Martin Nolan, executive director and co-founder of Julien's Auctions, told Reuters on Monday. He was speaking at the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge in Ireland during a pre-sale exhibition.
Among the highlights is a 1988 silk floral dress by Bellville Sassoon, dubbed the "caring dress" because Diana wore it several times on hospital visits, with a price estimate of $200,000-$300,000.
A cream silk embroidered evening gown Catherine Walker designed for Diana's 1986 Gulf tour has a similar price tag, while a Bruce Oldfield two-piece yellow floral ensemble she wore for Royal Ascot in 1987 is estimated at $100,000-$200,000.
Other sale items include a Dior handbag gifted to her by former French first lady Bernadette Chirac in 1995, a sketch of Diana's 1981 wedding dress with tulle fabric cut-offs from when she married then Prince Charles in 1981 and a peach hat she wore for her honeymoon send-off.
The auction also includes pieces belonging to other British royals including the late Queen Elizabeth II and the queen mother.
Nolan said Julien's Auctions had previously sold a dress belonging to Diana for $1.14 million.
"People do consider these items as an asset class now, because if people own these items today, chances are in years to come they will sell them for more than what they pay for (at) auction," he said.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of Diana's items will go to charity Muscular Dystrophy UK.
The pre-sale exhibition in Newbridge will run until June 17.

The fifth series of Mrs Brown's Boys will return to our screens this Friday (1 August 2025) - just months after the controversial series had its lowest ratings. It comes after the return of the BBC show was confirmed last month - despite pleas from viewers and scandal surrounding the show's creator. Mrs Brown's Boys, created and written by Brendan O'Carroll, hit BBC One in 2011. The programme has gone on to air 51 episodes across four seasons on the channel. BBC iPlayer's synopsis reads: 'Loud-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes Brown's favourite pastime is meddling in the lives of her six children. Sauciness and slapstick.' It stars the likes of Brendan O'Carroll, Jennifer Gibney, Eilish O'Carroll, Danny O'Carroll, Rory Cowan, Fiona O'Carroll, Pat Shields, Paddy Houlihan and Amanda Woods. Although the programme is returning this evening at 9:30pm, the sitcom has definitely received mixed reviews over the years, with many failing to connect with its humour. One previously wrote on X: 'Worst programme in human history should've never been commissioned.' 'Just speechless... I honestly don't know one person who thinks this show is remotely funny.' 'I don't know anyone who will admit to liking, or even just watching, this show.' The multi-millionaire, 26, is completely unfiltered when it comes to opening up about her struggles of being a mother to their two-year-old daughter, Bambi. Earlier this week, Bambi's temper tantrum led Molly-Mae to film herself breaking down in tears in despair. Crying in her car, the star admitted: 'I'm trying so so hard to stay positive but, I feel like I need to keep my camera running all day so you can see like every single thing, [Bambi] is a huge problem, [She] screams [I] can't even get like socks and shoes on.' 'I'm sorry, I'm so embarrassed,' Molly-Mae added as she opened up about the 'huge problems' she faces as a mum of one. Now reports are claiming that the outburst has 'ruffled feathers' with her Irish Traveller in-laws. They are said to be used to the no-nonsense attitude of Paris Fury - the wife of Tommy's brother Tyson - who has seven children, according to The Sun. A source told the publication: 'Within the Travelling community, having a big family with lots of children is the norm. 'They care about her so much and are concerned, but also worried about how publicly she's venting about motherhood. 'The family are used to Paris's attitude of being able to work, run the house and bring up her seven kids with Tyson without complaint.' The family were travelling on a swanky Elddis Avalon 255 motorhome. Yet Molly-Mae revealed the trip had been struck with delays, leaving Bambi 'overtired and overstimulated'. She explained: 'Tommy has bought a motorhome and we spent our first weekend in the motorhome this weekend. Obviously, being us, we went in feet first and decided to go to the Isle of Man. 'Tommy's family were spending the weekend in the Isle of Man. I was feeling spontaneous so we literally booked the ferry to the Isle of Man an hour before we needed to leave. 'We'd never used the motorhome before, we needed to pack it up, sort Bambi, I just had this wave of 'you only live once, have a bit of fun. 'Bambi doesn't need to be so perfectly routine every day, she's not a newborn anymore. 'I've got so stuck in my ways with the fact that her routine is her routine and I don't really steer away from it. 'I'm not gonna feel bad for that because that is what works for me and that is what works for Bambi and Tommy, so that's fine.' She then added of when things started to go wrong: 'So anyway, booked the ferry, packed the motorhome up and nearly didn't make the ferry but that's another story and then there was a two hour delay. 'This ferry, which was already gonna get us in at 11:30pm, which was already severely triggering me because Bambi goes to bed at 7pm, was not fine. It was giving me a prime example as to why the routine works for us. 'It was one of those moments where strangers come up to you and are like 'can I help? Is there anything I can do?' 'She was screaming that much for four hours straight. The boat basically had a malfunction and it wouldn't move for like two hours so we had a huge delay. 'She was so, so, so overtired and overstimulated - Bambi is so routine, she is the opposite of flexible.' And when they arrived things continued to go downhill, as she said: 'We managed to get to the Isle of Man at 1:30am in the morning. 'We didn't know where we were, what we were doing, we were going to a different campsite to Tommy's family. It was just a lot. 'We had to make our bed out of this sofa, I was like 'I'm really out of my depth, I'm struggling. The next day, Bambi was so tired, she was just screaming, literally screaming, so, so unhappy.
