Industrialist Sunjay Kapur died of natural causes, the Surrey coroner has determined. Speculation had been triggered by his mother, Rani Kapur, that there was foul play involved or that he was murdered.
Kapur, a US citizen who was chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away due to left ventricular hypertrophy and ischemic heart disease, as per the coroner's report shared by the office of his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, on Tuesday.
The Surrey coroner's office confirmed to TOI: 'The death was reported to the coroner. The coroner's investigation has been closed with a natural cause of death.' It is understood a post-mortem was carried out, but no inquest was held.
Surrey police said his death was being treated as 'non-suspicious'.
His death has intensified a bitter family dispute about inheritance and who controls the family's flagship company, Sona Comstar.
On Monday his mother Rani Kapur revealed that she had written to Surrey police demanding an investigation into his death, alleging foul play. 'His death may have been facilitated or orchestrated as part of a transnational conspiracy, with the involvement of individuals and entities in the UK, India and maybe the US,' Rani Kapur wrote.

She said she had 'credible and concerning evidence that suggests her son's death may not have been accidental or natural, but may have involved foul play, including possibility of murder, abetment, conspiracy, fraud, and forgery.'
Sunjay Kapur, owner of the Aureus polo team, was playing a polo match in Smith's lawn at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor on June 12 when he died after becoming unwell. The club has links to the British royal family.
A Surrey police spokesperson said they were aware of Rani Kapur's letter. 'Police were called to The Guards Polo Club just after 5pm on June 12 following the death of a man in his 50s at the location. Colleagues from South East Coast Ambulance also attended and confirmed that the man had sadly died at the scene. His death is being treated as non-suspicious,' the spokesperson said.
A US embassy spokesperson in London told TOI: 'When a US citizen dies abroad, the department provides consular assistance to the legal representative, next-of-kin, and family. Depending on the situation, this can include preparation of a consular report of the death of a US citizen abroad. Local authorities are responsible for determining the cause of death.'

'Pretty dumb': Fans revolt as NHL turns its ‘heritage' Stadium Series into a Florida marketing stunt
NHL's decision to host outdoor games in Florida as part of the 2026 Stadium Series has sparked skepticism among fans (Getty Images) The NHL 's bold push into non-traditional markets continues to raise eyebrows, especially with the recent announcement confirming two outdoor games in Florida as part of the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union Stadium Series. While the league celebrates expansion and spectacle, fans are far from universally thrilled. NHL fans skeptical of outdoor hockey in Florida 's heat The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the Boston Bruins at Raymond James Stadium on February 1, 2026 — marking the first-ever outdoor NHL game in a football stadium in Florida. A month earlier, the Florida Panthers will square off against the New York Rangers at loanDepot Park in Miami. On paper, it's a celebration of hockey's growing presence in the Sunshine State. But fans aren't exactly buying the hype. The weather is the biggest concern. February temperatures in Florida often hover in the high 60s or even low 70s, leading many to question whether the ice can hold up in such conditions. As one fan bluntly put it, 'It seems pretty dumb to play outdoor hockey games in Florida.' Others raised doubts about player safety and game quality, asking whether the NHL is sacrificing substance for spectacle. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 22 Illustrations of a Husband and Wife in Everyday Life Watch More Undo Still, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman stood by the decision. Fazilpuria link or unpaid loan? All theories under scanner in Gurgaon murder
Gurgaon: Days after a gangster claimed responsibility for shooting dead a property dealer linked to rapper Fazilpuria, police are investigating another angle involving an unpaid loan. Delhi-based property dealer Rohit Shokeen's friend, a witness in the case, has told cops that the 39-year-old was asked to come to Gurgaon to collect Rs 30 lakh that he had lent years ago to a friend, Deepak Nandal. Sources said on Wednesday the witness told police that Nandal had borrowed the money from Shokeen in 2023 and hadn't returned it despite repeated requests. You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon Shokeen had even insulted Nandal over the debt to their common friends, and he was humiliated because of it, they said. The friendship between the two deteriorated after Shokeen's father last year filed a complaint with the Delhi commissioner's office, alleging that Nandal and his family were threatening them with consequences. Nandal, he said, had borrowed money from Shokeen to make a music video. On Aug 4, Shokeen was standing near his car near Palm Hills society in Sector 77 when two motorcyclists with their faces covered struck him with around a dozen bullets. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doctors Shocked: New Weight Loss Trick Burns Fat Quickly Her Life & Health Learn More Undo Shokeen's Delhi-based friend survived the attack unhurt as he had just crossed the road to buy cigarettes. "The friend who accompanied Shokeen to Gurgaon but survived the attack told us that Nandal, who lives abroad, had asked him to collect the loaned money from his aides here. But we are still verifying the same," a police officer said. So far, investigators have not concluded any motive for the attack. After the Aug 4 murder, gangster Sunil Sardhania on social media claimed responsibility for killing Shokeen. "I, Sunil Sardhania, got Rohit Shokeen murdered at SPR Road in Gurgaon. Fazilpuria will have to pay our money or else many people will die in this fight," the post declared, mentioning even Deepak Nandal. The police officer told TOI cops are working to authenticate Sardhania's claim made online. TOI reported earlier this week that the murder could be the result of a bitter fallout between Fazilpuria and Nandal, who had previously produced the rapper's songs. Sardhania, a member of the Himanshu Bhai gang, purportedly warned the singer to return Rs 5 crore to Nandal, who had invested in building the rapper's career. Fazilpuria, however, consistently denied any loan arrangements and said that only music labels invested in his career. Cops had briefly detained a food delivery executive who witnessed the murder but was not linked to the shooting. The police officer said they have not found any evidence that indicates the involvement of Shokeen's friend who survived the attack in the murder plan. "We are investigating all possible angles and theories," the officer said.

‘Speed up decision on database of fake rape complaints'
New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Delhi Police and state govt to expeditiously decide a plea that wants a database of those who file multiple fake complaints of sexual offences, much along the lines of a sex offenders registry. A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a PIL that sought its intervention in the form of directions to the police to make people aware of women who repeatedly file fake rape cases. Though declining to issue any directions, the court pointed out that the petitioner had already raised the issue by making a representation to Delhi Police and other authorities and the same should be decided by the authorities in a time bound manner. You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi Without expressing any opinion on the merit of the plea, HC disposed of the plea by asking the police to decide the representation. On the petitioner's request to pass a direction to the authorities concerned to maintain the database, the court said, it was the authorities' domain and "they know better how the policing is to be done" refusing to pass specific directions. "Without expressing any merit on the issues raised, the petition is disposed of with the direction to the authorities to take an informed decision on the petitioner's representation with expedition. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Magnesium Deficiency Causes Heart Attacks! It was hearing a PIL by one Shonee Kapoor seeking a direction to the govt and Delhi Police to maintain a database at each police district headquarter "regarding the complainants who have registered more than one complaint of allegation of rape or sexual offences and mandatorily take the identity card—preferably Aadhaar card—from the complainants." The plea alleged a rampant misuse of the rape laws at the instance of a few complainants and highlighted that even courts have been forced to express concern about such fake cases.
