Arms suplier of Hashim Baba Gang arrested with one associate in Delhi, illegal weapons seized

New Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested the arms supplier of Hashim Baba Gang from the nearby area of Begumpur police station and seized two semi-automatic pistols along with four live bullets, officials said on Sunday.
The arrest was made when the accused, identified as Md. Rihan was his way to deliver the consignment of arms to an active member of the Hashim Baba Gang in Sector-24, Rohini, police said.
Later, the police arrested Rihan's associate and seized a semi-automatic, sophisticated pistol and two live bullets from him.
DCP Crime Harsh Indora informed that Rihan was arrested on April 22 after the crime branch received secret information regarding the supply of illegal firearms.
The police then laid down a trap and arrested the accused Md. Rihan near Premadhar Ayurvedik Hospital, Deep Vihar, Sec-24, Rohini, Delhi.
According to Harsh Indora, the accused revealed that he used to buy these pistols from one associate, identified as Salman, and further sell them to the members of the Hashim Baba Gang and others.
The investigation led to the arrest of the associate, he added. (ANI)

West Bengal: Court award life imprisonment to rape accused in post-poll violence rape case
ANI 05 Jul 2025, 00:35 GMT+10 Malda (West Bengal) [India] July 4 (ANI): The Additional District and Sessions Judge of the 2nd POCSO Court in Malda, West Bengal, rendered a sentence of life imprisonment to the defendant in a case involving rape. The accused identified as Rafikul Islam aka Bhelu sentenced to life imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 50,000/- for committing rape on a minor girl below 12 years of age. The case pertaining to the rape of a minor girl aged around 9 years was registered by CBI, by taking over the investigation of FIR dated June 5, 2021 of PS Manickchak, Dist Mandela in compliance to the orders dated August 19, 2021, of the Calcutta High Court entrusting the investigation of Post-Poll Violence (PPV) Cases to the CBI. Investigation conducted had revealed that the victim minor girl aged around 9 years was raped by accused Rafikul Islam aka Bhelu (Retired School teacher of a Govt. School in Malda) in the evening of June 4, 202,1 while she was playing in the mango orchard of the accused by alluring her with money. The incident of rape was witnessed by the cousin of the victim who is also a minor girl aged around 10 years. Both the victim and the eye witness deposed strongly about the incident of rape before the trial Court. On July 2, 2025, the Court had pronounced the judgment convicting the accused, Rafikul Islam. The Court has further directed that the State of West Bengal shall provide Rs 3 lakhs to the victim from the 'Victim Compensation Fund'. (ANI)

Zerodha founder Nithin Kamath lauds SEBI for
New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): Founder and CEO of stock brokerage firm Zerodha, Nithin Kamath, on Friday lauded SEBI for 'going after' Jane Street, a US-based investment firm that has been alleged of index manipulation. In the 105-page interim order, SEBI has imposed to recover one of the highest ever illegal gains made by the group of Rs 4,843.57 crore. The order targets four key entities under the Jane Street Group umbrella: JSI Investments Pvt Ltd, JSI2 Investments Pvt Ltd, Jane Street Singapore Pte Ltd, and Jane Street Asia Trading Ltd. 'You've got to hand it to SEBI for going after Jane Street. If the allegations are true, it's blatant market manipulation,' Kamath wrote on X. 'The shocking part? They kept at it even after receiving warnings from the exchanges. Maybe this is what happens when you're used to the lenient U.S. regulatory regime. Think about the structure of U.S. markets: dark pools, payment for order flow, and other loopholes that allow hedge funds to make billions off retail investors. None of these practices would be allowed in India, thanks to our regulators,' he added. SEBI in its order today noted that the US-based firm used a profit maximising scheme to manipulate the market and booked substantial profits in index options, while incurring smaller losses in the cash and futures segments. The case stems from media reports in April 2024, pointing to legal disputes involving Jane Street's proprietary strategies in Indian markets. SEBI further stated that Jane Street Group entities, despite caution letters from NSE in February 2025 and their own commitments to refrain from certain trading behaviours, continued to deploy the same high-risk and market-distorting strategies. Given the gravity of violations and ongoing disregard for regulatory warnings, SEBI concluded that urgent intervention was necessary to protect market integrity and investor interest. (ANI)

Air India flight delayed after pilot suffers medical emergency before takeoff
New Delhi [India], July 4 (ANI): An Air India flight from Bengaluru to Delhi was delayed in the early hours of Friday after a medical emergency involving one of its pilots. Flight AI2414 was set to depart on schedule, but the rostered pilot fell ill just before takeoff and was immediately taken to a local hospital. In a statement, an Air India spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, 'There was a medical emergency involving one of our pilots in the early hours of 04 July. As a result, the pilot was unable to operate the flight AI2414 from Bengaluru to Delhi, which he was rostered for, and was taken to a local hospital immediately. The airline assured that the pilot is now in stable condition and remains under the care of medical professionals. He is currently stable but continues to be under the supervision of doctors at the same hospital, the spokesperson added. To minimize disruption, the airline arranged for another cockpit crew member to operate the flight. 'Consequently, AI2414 was delayed and operated by another member of our cockpit crew', the statement noted. Air India said its immediate focus is on the well-being of the pilot and providing support to his family. 'Our immediate priority is to assist the pilot and his family to ensure his speedy recovery', the spokesperson said. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 03:05 am, was delayed and eventually took off at 04:52 am after another pilot was arranged. It landed in Delhi at 07:21 am, nearly 90 minutes behind the scheduled arrival time of 05:55 am, according to Flightradar24. Earlier in the day, Air India denied allegations of coercing families of victims of the AI-171 accident into signing documents about their financial dependency on the deceased to reduce compensation payouts. In a detailed statement, the airline called the claims 'unsubstantiated and inaccurate.'The controversy surfaced following reports that some of the bereaved families were being compelled to disclose financial ties to their deceased loved ones--allegedly as a prerequisite for receiving compensation. However, the airlines clarified that the request for such information was a part of a standard process to ensure that interim compensation reached the rightful beneficiaries promptly. (ANI)
