Michael Bolton had a 'weird' symptom that led to his brain cancer diagnosis

Daily Mail30-04-2025

Michael Bolton and family have revealed the 'weird' symptom which led to his brain cancer diagnosis as he broke his silence over the battle.
The 72-year-old When A Man Loves A Woman hitmaker - who received well-wishes from fans - and his daughters revealed that he was enjoying family time in the fall of 2023 when something interesting happened.
His daughters - Isa, 49, Holly, 47, and Taryn, 45 - recalled to People magazine that the family had been enjoying a night of bowling when Michael bowled out of turn then did it an additional two times.
Taryn called the incident 'super weird' as she explained: 'That was when we were like, "Something's wrong with his brain."
'Everything that happened was weird for him but not super alarming. When you look back at everything together … We missed so many things.'
Earlier that same night just after Thanksgiving of that year, the family noticed another red flag.

His daughters - Isa, 49, Holly, 47, and Taryn, 45, revealed that in the fall of 2023, the family had been enjoying a night of bowling when Michael bowled out of turn then did it an additional two times which raised some concerns
Taryn said: 'He fell out of his chair to the left, which is very unusual. He's super athletic, and he doesn't drink.
'So he fell, and we were like, "What just happened?"'
Bolton proceeded to have a 'bad headache' through the weekend before going to the hospital that Monday where it was confirmed that he had a brain tumor.
The tumor had been removed in its entirety a week later and doctors confirmed it was glioblastoma.
According to the Mayo Clinic: 'Glioblastoma is a type of cancer that starts as a growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord. It grows quickly and can invade and destroy healthy tissue. Glioblastoma forms from cells called astrocytes that support nerve cells.'
Bolton was booked and busy leading up to the incidents as he appeared on The Masked Singer and performed a few concerts.
However, he performed at a charity event on Richard Branson's Necker Island in mid-November 2023 where Bolton had battled nausea and balance issues so his daughters believed it was due to stress and exhaustion.
Taryn recalled her train of thought at the time as she said: 'Is this stress? Is this sleep? He'd been working nonstop that whole time. Traveling, doing shows, doing all of these things. We were like, he's getting older, he's tired, he's stressed out. All of these things we sort of explained in a way, one by one.'

The Grammy-winning singer, 72 was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, in December 2023 and was required to undergo 'immediate surgery.'
Since then, Michael has been leaning on his aforementioned daughters as well as spending valuable family time with his grandchildren, Amelia, 14, Olivia, 13, Dylan, 11, Grayson, 10, River, nine, and Jack, eight.
While he purposefully avoided hearing a prognosis, Michael is staying optimistic.
Opening up about his cancer journey, he said: 'You're reaching into your resources and your resolve in a way that you never would have thought.
'Succumbing to the challenge is not an option. You're really quickly drawn into a duel. I guess that's the way you find out what you're made of.'
He continued to People: 'Whenever you find yourself in any kind of challenging position, just to know that you're not alone going through it is a big deal.
'It actually helps people to know. It reminds them that they're not alone.'

With hope and optimism, he added: 'Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success.
'I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.'
At the time, the musician said that he 'will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery' and will 'take a temporary break from touring.'
'It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon.'
In February, Michael canceled his London O2 Arena concert which had been slated for July 5.

James Argent performs at Megan McKenna's wedding after girlfriend's abuse post

James 'Arg' Argent was seen celebrating his former The Only Way Is Essex co-star Megan McKenna's wedding over the weekend, just hours after his ex put out a heartbreaking statement James 'Arg' Argent danced the night away with his The Only Way Is Essex co-stars, just hours after his ex issued a heartbreaking statement. Nicoline Artursson broke her silence on Friday evening for the first time since her ex admitted to domestic violence. The former Only Way Is Essex star admitted his crime at a court in Spain where he received a six-month suspended prison sentence and a two-year restraining order. Argent pushed his now ex-girlfriend down a flight of stairs, causing the injuries. As Nicoline spoke of how the "fractures on my body have finally healed but I'm wounded inside", just hours later, on the Saturday, Arg was at Megan's wedding, where she tied the knot with her husband Oliver. Taking to Instagram, Arg posted a video of him and Megan dancing at the nuptials. He wrote: "Congratulations to the beautiful Bride, My dear friend @meganmckenna who got married to the lovely @oliverjburke yesterday. "I can't tell you how much it meant to me, That you wanted me there on your special Wedding day. We danced together just like old times in Nu Bar Loughton when we were kids. He added: "We always supported each other in those TOWIE days & remained friends ever since. You've blossomed into an amazing woman. You're a fantastic mum & you're going to make a great wife! And you're a much better singer than me haha. Love ya." In her heartbreaking statement, Nicoline explained more about that night. She wrote: "I was brutally thrown out of our new home in the middle of the night wearing only my pyjamas. I opened the door to let him in and only minutes after I found myself laying down on the stairs outside our house. My clothes and belongings were being thrown out from the balcony down on me. I was injured." She also added: "A gentleman does not abuse you and end up in jail and call you the love of his life. A gentleman does not blame you for his actions. A gentleman will confide in his partner, family and close circle of friends, keeping them close and safe. A gentleman chooses you always and leaves the past in the past - including exes. "Life is to be lived together and not to please people who want to take advantage of you. At the end of the day, fame can only do so much - it's all about being strong and growing together. Life is simply not a reality TV show, life is real. I have tried to understand why. I have cried so many tears thinking about the way he chose to hurt me. He said he loved me and I believed him and here we are." *For confidential support, call the 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Freephone Helpline on 0808 2000 247 or visit If you or your family have lost a friend or family member through fatal domestic abuse, AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) can offer specialist and expert support and advocacy. Cynthia Erivo and The Vivienne among ‘LGBT+ changemakers' in 2025 Pride List

The Independent's Pride List for 2025 also includes retired Olympic diver Tom Daley, actor Bella Ramsey, artist David Hockney, comedian Joe Lycett and author Juno Dawson. Erivo, 38, who won a Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (Glaad) Award earlier in the year, was placed at number four on the top 10 list while The Vivienne, the drag alter-ego of the late James Lee Williams, is seventh. The Vivienne attending the National Television Awards 2020 (Isabel Infantes/PA) The Vivienne, who won the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK and spoke publicly about prejudices faced by LGBT+ people and by the drag community, died in January at the age of 32 and is a posthumous inclusion on the list. Topping the 2025 Pride List is Victoria McCloud, a lawyer, former judge and transgender woman who announced she would take the Government to the European Court of Human Rights over the Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of a woman. Dr McCloud said: 'I'm delighted and honoured that The Independent has included me in its Pride List this year. 'In 2025, more than ever before, amidst increasing oppression and segregation at home, with court and state against us, people from the trans community yearn to be bathed in rainbow light. 'These are uniquely dark times but we will challenge those who wish to marginalise us, be they Government or activists with money and the odd mega-yacht to spare. 'We have been here for centuries; we will be here for centuries to come. The quiet majority walk with us.' In April the UK's highest court unanimously ruled that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 'refer to a biological woman and biological sex'. Bella Ramsey is third on the list (Ian West/PA) Chloe Hubbard, UK editor of The Independent, said: 'We are proud to champion our most influential LGBT+ changemakers once again on our annual Pride List in a year where the community has been further marginalised on both sides of the Atlantic. 'Visibility and pride within the queer community feels more vital than ever and we are dedicated to continuing to occupy our unique place in the media on LGBT+ issues.' In 2023, The Independent relaunched its Rainbow List as the Pride List, to recognise 50 extraordinary 'LGBT+ changemakers'. The 2024 list included Doctor Who and Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa, commentator and former England footballer Alex Scott, Wicked and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey and screenwriter Russell T Davies. To mark the publication of its Pride List, The Independent will host an event at Queer Britain on June 11. This year's top 10: 1. Victoria McCloud, former judge of the King's Bench 2. Juno Dawson, author 3. Bella Ramsey, actor 4. Cynthia Erivo, actor and singer 5. Wes Streeting, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care 6. David Hockney, artist 7. Jeremy Clarkson's Farm pub plagued by walkouts as staff quit in 'disaster'

Jeremy Clarkson's pub The Farmer's Dog was hit with a mass walkout with staff storming out the bar and demanding to quit. Jeremy Clarkson's pub launch was overshadowed by staff walkouts, details of which have only now come to light. The ex-Top Gear host faced intense challenges during the inaugural weekend of The Farmer's Dog in August last year. The Farmer's Dog is located in Burford, Oxfordshire, in the heart of the Cotswolds. But in the season four finale of Clarkson's Farm, released on Prime Video last week, the 65-year-old is forced to acknowledge a string of mishaps. ‌ In a candid conversation with Charlie Ireland after a tumultuous opening day at his licensed establishment, Clarkson admits: "We've lost two waitresses. We lost a pot washer. After one day." ‌ His troubles are compounded when he engages in urgent discussions with Sue and Rachel, his front of house team, in the pub's upstairs bar. The duo convey their concerns, indicating that the situation is dire with "too many problems" to operate a "successful business," reports the Express. They reveal the staff's fatigue, saying: "Everyone is exhausted, even when we say go for a break, there is no staff room," and highlight the less-than-ideal working conditions: "They're weeing in a port aloo. It's not lovely conditions." Offering some reassurance to Clarkson, they add: "They love you. They're excited about the British food," to which Clarkson insists: "I have no problem with the staff. Not one single problem with the staff. They're all brilliant. They are smiling. They are nice." However, Sue and Rachel warn him about the impending crisis in the kitchen as they explain: "The kitchen is about to go pop, those chefs have had it.... It might be worth popping into the kitchen," they suggest. ‌ "I just popped in," Clarkson retorts, to which Sue and Rachel reply: "go back." Jeremy, worn out from juggling farm duties and preparing the pub for its opening, hits back: "Do you want me to go and find a manager? Or go back into the kitchen?" ‌ His sarcastic tirade about his workload continues: "Or do you want me to mend the leak? Or do you want me to deal with the car parking issues? Or do you want me to deal with the neighbours? "Do you want me to deal with the council? I've got plenty to be doing and I'll get on with it. Thank you." ‌ This outburst was the last straw for the pair who subsequently resigned. However, an undeterred Jeremy insists he has a solution. "We've worked out if we shut the lavatories and use plastic glasses instead of glass ones, we'll have enough water to serve food until six," he concedes. "The next problem is Sue and Rachel, who brilliantly set up the pub, have now left. So it's a Sunday morning, I've managed to secure a new front of house person who is the head of sixth form at the local village school. That's good." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
