NASCAR to start rotating championship weekend in '26
Only two tracks in the past 23 years have hosted the season-ending tripleheader of title races: Homestead-Miami (2002-19) and Phoenix Raceway (2020-current).

As with the Super Bowl or Final Four, bringing the finales of the Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Truck Series to different locations will boost exposure in more markets.

Unlike those events, played on uniform fields and courts, NASCAR's rotation model potentially could transform the competition due to the varying lengths, surfaces and conditions of the circuit's tracks.
"Having the playoffs be more unpredictable every year, the championship venue to be at a different location, I think gives you the ability to see different teams and drivers kind of rise to the occasion to be able to be crowned a champion," said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR executive vice president and chief venue and racing innovation officer.
Kennedy said 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami will host in November 2026, and that 1-mile Phoenix will also remain in the rotation, but other tracks will be announced later based on several factors.

"I would say it's four or five things," Kennedy said. "It's marketing and promotion, for sure, and it's location. We want to be in a warm-weather market. Ideally, being in November, that first week of November, it kind of limits you to the amount of races that you can run. ... I would say the quality of the facility. In Phoenix, we put over $100 million into the redevelopment of that track, and it was a big catalyst for bringing this championship to the West Coast. We're going to be putting a good amount of capital into Homestead as well ahead of the race.
"The racing product, I think, is another big part of this. And then overall, it's just the entire industry's feedback on this. So we collaborate with our broadcast partners, our teams. We hear from our drivers what they think, a lot of our corporate partners, and then ultimately the fans, and the fans have a large voice in this, and we get their perspective on it every single year."
Homestead-Miami track president Guillermo Santa Cruz called it an honor to be the first locale in the new rotation.
"There's nothing like having that ability to be the first one up and to have that blank sheet of paper in front of you and say, 'OK, what are we going to do?' Then you start," he said. "As a creative person, I love that. I love that ability to do that. That's my favorite thing in the world."
NASCAR's championship weekend this year will be in Phoenix from Oct. 31-Nov. 2.

Lucas Giolito tries to deliver Red Sox sweep of Astros
August 3 - Right-hander Lucas Giolito will get the start on the mound when the Boston Red Sox attempt to sweep a three-game series from the visiting Houston Astros on Sunday. Dustin May, whom Boston acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, was originally scheduled to start Sunday's game, but his first start with the Red Sox has been pushed back to Wednesday, when Boston will wrap up a three-game home series with Kansas City. Boston manager Alex Cora said the change was made so Giolito (7-2, 3.80 ERA) would be able to take his regular turn in the rotation. Giolito is 2-6 with a 5.94 ERA in 53 innings over nine career appearances -- all starts -- against Houston. "I talked to Lucas about Sunday," Cora said. "It was either him pitching Sunday or May. Garrett (Crochet) is going to pitch (Tuesday), so it was going to be a lot of days in-between starts and Gio didn't like that. I said, 'I'm just thinking about you -- (Sunday) is an 11:30 (a.m.) game,' and he said, 'I'm good. If I survived (the July 4 start) in Washington, I'll be OK on Sunday.' "We'll do that and then we'll schedule May for the last one against Kansas City." May, whose last start for the Dodgers was on July 27 at Fenway Park against the Red Sox, will be making his debut with Boston on nine days of rest. Lefty Framber Valdez (11-4, 2.62) will get the start Sunday for Houston. Valdez has a 3-1 record and a 1.96 ERA over five career games (three starts) against the Red Sox. He has 24 strikeouts and three walks in 23 innings against Boston. Boston beat Houston 2-1 in 10 innings on Friday and earned a 7-3 victory on Saturday. The Astros have lost seven of their last nine games and five of their last seven series. "Their top of the lineup had five at-bats," Cora said. "They just kept coming up and up and up. It was a lot of traffic, but at the end of the day, we were able to get 27 outs and we won the series." The Astros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat Saturday but could not maintain the momentum. Boston received home runs from Romy Gonzalez, Trevor Story and Abraham Toro. "Coming back after that first inning, getting down quick, the belief was always there," Story said. "We know the type of team we have. We've played from behind, we've played from ahead. Wave-riding canines take on surf to be named top dog
A surfing competition with a difference drew thousands of spectators to a beach near San Francisco, as dogs of all sizes took to the waves. Labs, terriers and spaniels were among dozens of dogs riding the surf at Pacifica State Beach, about 14 miles south of the city, in the annual World Dog Surfing Championships. Advertisement They competed against similar-sized dogs for a chance to appear in the finals, while additional heats featured multiple dogs – wearing life vests and often goggles – surfing tandem or riding with people. Once out on the waves, their owners helped them hop on their colourful surf boards as the crowd cheered from the beach. Judges assessed how long the dogs remained on their boards, how long they held their balance, and whether they performed any tricks, like turning around while riding. 'It's like, hey, we actually did something today, right? We did something together as a team,' Mr Drottar said. 'The fact that you can do something as a team with your dog creates a different bond than you have when you just take your dog for a walk.' He can tell Rosie feels a sense of accomplishment afterwards because she is extra happy, wags her tail extra hard and snuggles even more than usual, he said.
