Mariah Carey set for triumphant return to Australia
Mariah Carey is heading back Down Under for the first time in over a decade, and she's bringing the party with her.
The five-time Grammy winner will headline Fridayz Live 2025, a blockbuster festival tour spanning four major Australian cities this October.
The singer wil be joined by chart-topping stars Pitbull and Wiz Khalifa sharing the stage.
'I missed you terribly, certainly the fans and the people, the beautiful land and the animals, you know, it's Australia, c'mon!' Carey enthused.
She confirmed her excitement to reconnect with her Aussie supporters after more than 12 years away, according to Daily Mail.
Fridayz Live, which celebrates R&B, hip-hop, and pop, is making its grand return after a year's hiatus. The 2025 line-up is its most dazzling yet.
Alongside Mariah Carey, fans can expect high-energy sets from Pitbull, Wiz Khalifa, Eve, Lil Jon, Tinie Tempah, and Jordin Sparks.
The festival will kick off in Brisbane on 17 October, before heading to Sydney, Perth. It will then wrap up in Melbourne on 25 October.
Most events are 18+ only, but Sydney and Melbourne will offer all-ages sections, ensuring younger fans can experience the magic too.
Mariah Carey's return coincides with the 20th anniversary of her acclaimed album, The Emancipation of Mimi .
The album, originally released in 2005, was hailed as a comeback and spawned hits like We Belong Together and It's Like That.
It sold over 10 million copies worldwide and earned her three Grammy Awards.
'Reliving the splendour of The Emancipation of Mimi brings back so many memories,' Carey shared on social media.
'This album has some of my biggest hits to date, as well as some personal favourites that are very special to me.'
A special 20th anniversary edition of the album will drop on 30 May, featuring new remixes and unreleased tracks, perfect for fans old and new.
Mariah Carey's last planned Australian tour in 2018 was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts, making this return even sweeter.
'The Celebration of Mimi tour is the perfect opportunity to reconnect,' said an event promoter. 'Plans are underway to include Australia in the tour itinerary later this year.'
Mariah's enduring appeal, her legendary vocals, and a line-up packed with hitmakers promise a festival experience to remember.
As she told fans, 'Let me know what your favourite Mimi lyric is and stay tuned for more surprises yet to come! Love, MC.'

How the BET Awards managed to attract star power this year
The BET Awards have been dismal for years now. This time around, however, they managed to attract actual talent. Star power was the order of the day from host Kevin Hart to some of the winners on the night. It should be noted that even though it was great to see people like Tyler Perry presenting an award, Mariah Carey was also in attendance, and they even had Snoop Dogg in the front row. Still, all those people had ulterior motives for being there. Mariah Carey is celebrating 20 years of the release of her iconic opus, The Emancipation of Mimi. She also debuted a new song at the BET Awards. Perry is hawking the release of his latest film, Straw, and Snoop Dogg needs the visibility as he has a decent album out now. Nobody is fooled; it is all just advertising. Snoop, Carey and Jamie Foxx all received awards for being icons and pivotal to the culture. The big winner on the night is a man who owes most of his recent success to Canada's Drake. Kendrick Lamar walked away with more awards than he deserves, most of which were centred around the flaccid offering GNX. Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and even Best Collaboration of the Year all went to the pride and joy of Compton. Future and Metro Boomin won Best Group for their efforts last year. Florida's Doechii either inflamed or put the industry plant rumours to rest when she scooped the award for Best Female Rap Artist. She used her acceptance speech to shine a light on the recent protests around immigration and deportation happening in Los Angeles. Comedian and actor Kevin Hart oversaw the responsibilities of hosting. He made fun of everyone, from lightly insisting that after parties would not be happening, as things tend to get slippery at those. A clear reference to rapper P. Diddy and the abundance of baby oil found in his home when Homeland Security raided one of his properties. Hart has enjoyed sharing the spotlight with streamers Kai Cenat and Druski. This has kept Hart relevant, and the three together are always worth a watch. Seeing behind-the-scenes footage on Cenat's stream was refreshing as all those moments happened in real time, as it were. Fans of music channels, back in the days when they played music, will recall a once immensely popular show called Total Request Live (TRL) on MTV. BET's urban response to that was a similar show called 106 and Park. Rapper Bow Wow was a large part of this. Naturally he took to the stage and let loose with some of his more memorable hits from that moment in time. Amapiano was not left out of this celebration of Black artistry. South African DJ duo TxC won Best New International Act, ensuring the amapiano fraternity was not ignored. The BET Awards has been steadily foregrounding South African music in recent years, which our artists surely appreciate. Everything from the performances to the slick delivery of the overall production was infinitely better than it has been in recent years. The star power they managed to get into the Peacock Theatre was more impressive than it was last year or the year before. Everything from the performances and the acceptance speeches was a pleasure to take in. This might be because of the 25-year milestone reached by the awards this year, or that BET, as a network, has now been around for 45 years. We can only hope the BET Hip Hop Awards will be as good. K-pop megastars RM, V released from army, promise BTS reunion
K-pop supergroup BTS members RM and V were discharged from the South Korean military on Tuesday after mandatory service, as fans counted down to the band's comeback with more members finishing their national duty later this month. Cheered by dozens of fans near the military base, the two members in their army uniforms saluted the crowd and said they will soon be returning to perform. 'To all the ARMYs who have waited for us in the military, I want to say I am truly, truly grateful. Please wait just a little longer and we will return with a really cool performance,' V said in front of fans and media. Known as ARMY, BTS has a global fan club with millions of loyal followers. Two other bandmates, Jin and J-Hope, were discharged from the military earlier and have been performing solo and appearing on variety shows. Jimin, Jung Kook and Suga are set to wrap up their military service by June 21, media reports say. The globally recognised K-pop icon BTS has not released a group project since 2022 but its members are hoping for a reunion. 'After pursuing our own little ventures, we are now coming back together, and I love that for us,' J-Hope told a magazine in December. Entertainment group HYBE, which manages BTS, is planning a huge event called BTS FESTA this week for fans to celebrate the band's 12th anniversary. It is not clear whether all the members will show up, but Jin attended last year. Shares in HYBE rose 2.3% on Tuesday, hitting their highest point in more than three years. Holding a flower bouquet to celebrate their discharge from the army, RM said he looked forward to performing. "(Members) would feel the same, but stage performance, I want to perform the most. I'll work hard to make an album soon and come back to the stage,' RM said, after playing the sax for the crowd. Groupies from around the world flew into South Korea to celebrate the return of their 'life-changing' stars. 'It is just absolutely joyful. That is now four out, two again tomorrow and then Suga. Then we have OT7, we have seven kings back with us,' said Philip Darbyshire, a 72-year-old Australian fan, referring to the band's seven members. 'It is just wonderful.'
