NIZWA: Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has launched six new investment opportunities worth over RO 5 million as part of the Jebel Shams Waterfront Project in the Wilayat of Al Hamra. These opportunities are available through the Tatweer platform and span more than 70,000 square meters.
The new offerings include a mix of tourism, agriculture, and entertainment ventures, reflecting efforts to diversify the local economy and promote investment in key sectors.
Among the opportunities presented are: A fully serviced 3-5 star tourist resort (1,400 sqm); A fixed-structure tourist camp (20,440 sqm); An adventure centre (10,012 sqm); A coffee farm (15,752 sqm); A fruit farm (9,830 sqm); and A recreational slide attraction.
Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, noted that the Jebel Shams 'Grand Canyon' project was selected by the main committee for the 2024 governorates' development project competition. A tender for the first phase—covering infrastructure works—was floated in March. The second phase tender, which includes an administrative building, geological exhibition, and Adventure Academy, is set to be launched later this year.
Additional attractions planned for the second phase include: A public square and open-air theatre; Remote workspaces for business and meetings; A health walkway for mountain walking and running events; A café perched near the cliff edge; A suspension bridge and zip line; 18 kiosks across the site; and a multi-purpose hall.
The full project spans 145,000 square metres, with a total estimated investment of RO 11 million. Annual returns are projected to exceed RO 1.26 million.
According to the Governor, the waterfront development blends the rugged beauty of Jebel Shams with contemporary architectural elements. Highlights include a 500-seat amphitheater, educational facilities, and a 250-meter-long recreational slide. A geological exhibition is also planned to showcase Oman's rich geodiversity.
The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, aiming to stimulate private sector growth, innovation, local industry development, and employment through support for SMEs and public-private partnerships.
'This project is a beacon of development in the majestic surroundings of Jebel Shams,' said the Governor. 'It is designed to harmonise with the natural landscape while delivering sustainable tourism and economic opportunities.' — ONA
