The new offerings include a mix of tourism, agriculture, and entertainment ventures, reflecting efforts to diversify the local economy and promote investment in key sectors. Sheikh Hilal bin Saeed al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, noted that the Jebel Shams 'Grand Canyon' project was selected by the main committee for the 2024 governorates' development project competition. A tender for the first phase—covering infrastructure works—was floated in March. The second phase tender, which includes an administrative building, geological exhibition, and Adventure Academy, is set to be launched later this year. Additional attractions planned for the second phase include: A public square and open-air theatre; Remote workspaces for business and meetings; A health walkway for mountain walking and running events; A café perched near the cliff edge; A suspension bridge and zip line; 18 kiosks across the site; and a multi-purpose hall. The full project spans 145,000 square metres, with a total estimated investment of RO 11 million. Annual returns are projected to exceed RO 1.26 million. According to the Governor, the waterfront development blends the rugged beauty of Jebel Shams with contemporary architectural elements. Highlights include a 500-seat amphitheater, educational facilities, and a 250-meter-long recreational slide. A geological exhibition is also planned to showcase Oman's rich geodiversity. The initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040, aiming to stimulate private sector growth, innovation, local industry development, and employment through support for SMEs and public-private partnerships. 'This project is a beacon of development in the majestic surroundings of Jebel Shams,' said the Governor. 'It is designed to harmonise with the natural landscape while delivering sustainable tourism and economic opportunities.' — ONA

NIZWA: The Governorate of Ad Dakhiliyah has announced the tender for the first phase of the Jebel Shams Waterfront Project in the Wilayat of Al Hamra, marking a significant step in the region's tourism and infrastructure development. This phase, which focuses on essential groundwork and services, is part of a RO 11 million investment spanning 145,000 square metres. The second phase of the project is expected to be tendered later this year. He explained that the first phase will include site preparation, road construction, and the development of vital service networks, such as electricity, water, sewage, and telecommunications. Additionally, it will cover the construction of reception and administration buildings, public facilities, parking spaces, and landscaped areas to enhance the visitor experience. The second phase of the project will introduce key attractions designed to elevate Jebel Shams into a premier tourism destination. Al Hajri further revealed that investment opportunities for the private sector will be made available from mid-April, offering developments such as a luxury resort overlooking Wadi Al Nakhr, a coffee and fruit farm, an adventure activities hub, and a suspended glass bridge. These additions are expected to significantly enhance the region's tourism appeal while providing economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs. The Jebel Shams Waterfront Project recently won first place in the Best Development Project Proposal Competition within the Governorates Competition 2024, underscoring its strategic importance in line with Oman Vision 2040. Al Hajri emphasised that the initiative is a pioneering effort in sustainable development, incorporating locally sourced materials and creating 309 new jobs across sectors such as construction, tourism, and services.
