Bareilly: The trial in the 2021 Tikunia violence case progressed further on Thursday as the 22nd prosecution witness, Dilbagh Singh of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, recorded his statement before the court of ADJ Devendra Nath Singh. His cross-examination could not be completed, and he has been directed to appear again on Friday. The violence was sparked after remarks made in Sept 2021 by then Union MoS Ajay Mishra Teni against the farmers' agitation, leading to protests near his native village in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri. 7 held for having mule accounts used in crimes
Ranchi: The criminal investigation department (CID) has nabbed seven persons from different parts of the state for having mule accounts, which were used for fraudulent transactions amounting to Rs 32.6 crore in various cybercrime cases. Those arrested are identified as Roushan Kumar and Satish Kumar of Ranchi, Rajendra Kumar Saw of Koderma, Pran Ranjan Sinha of Palamu, Jitendra Kumar Pappu of Jamtara, Nurej Ansari of Lohardaga and Ganesh Chik Baraik of Simdega district. "The arrests were made from the native districts of the accused persons in the past week. The investigation has exposed a deep-rooted inter-state network of cybercriminals," the CID said in a statement. According to the CID, mule accounts were used for cybercrimes with links in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala. Around 15,000 mule accounts have been identified in Jharkhand alone through analysis of the Samavaya portal launched by the Indian cyber crime coordination centre of the Union ministry of home affairs. In a step to prevent cyber crimes, the CID had registered a case on July 29 against 40 mule accounts having transactions of Rs 10 lakhs or more. The investigation into the remaining 33 mule accounts is underway. The CID has appealed to the people to remain vigilant against offers promising high returns and report suspicious activities on the helpline number 1930. 1996 dhoti-pulling incident: Court drops case against former union minister
Ahmedabad: Twenty-nine years after the infamous incident in which the then state minister Atmaram Patel's dhoti was pulled during a BJP function at Sardar Patel Stadium, a city sessions court on Thursday dropped the criminal case against former Union minister and first BJP MP, A K Patel. Another BJP leader, Mangaldas Patel, was also an accused in the case, registered at Naranpura police station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, for allegedly assaulting and stripping the minister by pulling off his dhoti in 1996. The accused had backed Shankersinh Vaghela at the time of his rift with then chief minister Keshubhai Patel. The incident occurred immediately after BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee had finished addressing the gathering.
