Amandeep, sources said, responded to the commission saying that he was preoccupied with "Hul Day" programmes, and added that he was also engaged on 4 and 5 July with certain other events. NCW officials met Union minister for women and child development Annapurna Devi on Tuesday and briefed her about the episode.
NCW member Archana Majumdar said: "There is reluctance and negligence on the part of the police in conducting this investigation."
"We will issue a fresh summons to the Birbhum SP on Wednesday and ask him to appear before the commission after July 6. An official may have prior engagements and responsibilities to discharge," she added.

2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case: 22nd witness deposes before trial court

Bareilly: The trial in the 2021 Tikunia violence case progressed further on Thursday as the 22nd prosecution witness, Dilbagh Singh of the Bhartiya Kisan Union, recorded his statement before the court of ADJ Devendra Nath Singh. His cross-examination could not be completed, and he has been directed to appear again on Friday. The violence was sparked after remarks made in Sept 2021 by then Union MoS Ajay Mishra Teni against the farmers' agitation, leading to protests near his native village in Tikunia, Lakhimpur Kheri. On Oct 3, 2021, Ashish Mishra 's convoy allegedly ran over four protesting farmers and a journalist. In retaliation, three BJP workers were lynched, and two SUVs in the convoy were torched. District government counsel (DGC) Arvind Tripathi said the case was being heard on the fast track and had reached the evidence stage. "So far, 22 witnesses have recorded their statements before the court. There are 208 witnesses in total," he told TOI. After his testimony, Dilbagh told TOI that he had directly seen Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni, driving the Thar SUV during the incident. "Ashish's counsels are trying to prove he was at a wrestling event in his native village Banbirpur, but many policemen and farmers saw him open fire while fleeing after ramming the protesters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? 1996 dhoti-pulling incident: Court drops case against former union minister

Ahmedabad: Twenty-nine years after the infamous incident in which the then state minister Atmaram Patel's dhoti was pulled during a BJP function at Sardar Patel Stadium, a city sessions court on Thursday dropped the criminal case against former Union minister and first BJP MP, A K Patel. Another BJP leader, Mangaldas Patel, was also an accused in the case, registered at Naranpura police station under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC, for allegedly assaulting and stripping the minister by pulling off his dhoti in 1996. The accused had backed Shankersinh Vaghela at the time of his rift with then chief minister Keshubhai Patel. The incident occurred immediately after BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee had finished addressing the gathering. The co-accused in the case, Mangaldas Patel and witness (victim) Atmaram Patel, passed away during the pendency of the trial. After hearing the submissions, additional sessions judge H G Pandya observed: "The case involves an internal political party dispute that occurred 28 years ago, and the victim, Atmarambhai Maganbhai Patel, has passed away... The public prosecutor's request to withdraw the case appears to be made with bona fide intentions, and sufficient consideration has been given to withdrawing the prosecution. Therefore, considering the records and the nature of the offense, it is appropriate to grant permission to withdraw the prosecution under Section 321 of CrPC in the interest of justice. " Earlier, on Jan 30, 2018, a metropolitan court had dropped a related criminal case against 41 BJP workers and leaders, including VHP leader Pravin Togadia and BJP MLA from Daskroi, Babu Jamna Patel.
