Author of 'The Salt Path' accused of misleading audience

ABC NewsRadio's Sarah Morice spoke with Dr Nicola Redhouse on an investigation by The Observer, which accuses Bestselling Author of 'The Salt Path' of deceiving an audience of the truth.
In response author Raynor Winn says the memoir "the true story of our journey".
But does that leave it standing as a memoir? And in the era of fake news and subjective truths is society more forgiving?

‘Within weeks': Major update after secret royal talks

IN LONDON Prince Harry could meet with the King in just a matter of weeks after senior aides from both camps held a 'peace summit' in London. In May, the Duke of Sussex confirmed he and his father were no longer on speaking terms, marking a sad new development in what's been a turbulent few years in their relationship. The Sun's royal editor Matt Wilkinson reports that Harry '[gave] his blessing' for a casual meeting that took place in the UK capital recently involving two members of his team, Meredith Maines and Liam Maguire, as well as the King and Queen's director of communications, Tobyn Andrae, at a private members' club. Pictures of the all-important meeting were published in The Mail on Sunday over the weekend. Conversations were reportedly centred around ways to finally reconcile issues between the duke and the King, although The Sun added that 'a proposal for Harry to make a royal return was not on the agenda'. 'There's a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years,' another source told the Mail. 'There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.' It's unclear which side reached out first to book the catch-up, and it's understood no-one from Prince William's team was present. 'The King has consistently shown he loves both his sons and, as he has done in the past, is prepared to meet Harry when their diaries allow,' a source told the Mail. 'It's not unusual for aides from different households to meet, especially when there is a new influx of staff starting, but this is a significant moment. 'If there is a period of calm and reflection on the part of the duke, then there be a way forward for him to begin along the road of repairing his relationship with his father.' In September, Harry is expected to return to the UK to attend the annual WellChild Awards, of which he is patron, providing a potential opportunity for the pair to meet in person for the first time in 18 months. They last saw each other back in early 2024, when Harry made a quick dash back to London to see his father shortly after he revealed his cancer diagnosis. If Harry and the King arrange a reunion, it would mark a significant turning point in the ongoing feud between the duke and the royal family, which was sparked before Harry and Meghan sensationally quit official duties and moved to the US. September is already set to be a big month for the royals, with the announcement on Monday that they will be hosting US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on a state visit. The latest development comes after Harry gave an explosive interview to the BBC in May, during which he made it clear he was hoping to reconcile with his estranged family after exchanging public barbs in recent years. 'There's no point in continuing to fight any more,' he told the broadcaster. 'Life is precious … Forgiveness is 100 per cent a possibility because I would like to get my father and brother back.' It also recently emerged that Harry was planning to extend an invitation to the royal family to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham in a bid to finally end their years-long tension. The Mail on Sunday reported last month that Harry 'agreed that Invictus should extend an invitation to his family', as revealed by a source. If accepted, it would mean Harry could be pictured with his estranged family for the first time since 2022.

BBC cuts ties with former MasterChef UK host Gregg Wallace amid dozens of sexual misconduct allegations

The United Kingdom's BBC says it will no longer work with MasterChef host Gregg Wallace after a report found dozens of misconduct allegations made against the hit cooking show presenter were upheld. The report, led by a law firm, said 45 out of the 83 allegations made against Wallace during his time on the show between 2005 and 2018 were substantiated. It said the majority of the claims related to "inappropriate sexual language and humour," with one incident including unwelcome physical contact. Wallace, 60, stepped away from hosting the hit BBC reality show, which is made by an independent production company, last year while an investigation was launched into allegations made by multiple women that he made inappropriate sexual comments and behaved inappropriately over 17 years. The BBC has come under pressure over how it handles sexual misconduct allegations and how Wallace had continued to front some of its most popular shows for so long despite the complaints. The broadcaster issued a statement of apology, adding Wallace's "return to MasterChef is untenable". The broadcaster previously said that Wallace was warned by his employers after a complaint in 2018, and an internal investigation at the time found his behaviour was "unacceptable and unprofessional". Wallace had claimed he had been cleared of the "most serious and sensational accusations" against him ahead of publication of the report into his alleged misconduct. In a statement posted on his Instagram account last week, he said: "I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience. I was tried by media and hung out to dry well before the facts were established." MasterChef is one of the BBC's most popular and long-running competition shows, and has been adapted in other countries including MasterChef Australia. AP

‘Not ready': Robbie Williams issues heartbreaking update on mum's health battle

Pop star Robbie Williams has revealed his mother's dementia means she no longer knows who he is – and admits he 'isn't ready for it.' The Angels singer revealed the heartbreaking news about mum Janet during a recent concert while on tour in Germany, The Sun reports. Former Take That star Robbie, 51, also talked on stage about the other stresses he's been suffering with his father, Peter, who's also a singer, as well as his mother in law. He said: 'My mother has dementia and she doesn't know who I am anymore. 'She doesn't know where she is anymore. 'My dad has Parkinson's and he can't leave the house. 'He used to sing with me every night on stage, he would come out, steal the show and be charming and then wander backstage for a glass of red wine. 'Now he can't leave the house. 'My mother-in-law, who I absolutely worship and adore, has three illnesses. 'She's for lupus, Parkinson's and cancer. She is the most courageous lady and she is fighting, fighting, fighting.' He added: 'It's a strange place to be, this place we find ourselves, 51 years old, it's very strange to be the grown up. 'I'm not ready for it.' Robbie has previously talked about his mothers battle with dementia, which his grandmother also suffered from. He said he knew the day would come when she might not recognise him. He admitted: 'I'm in a different part of my life right now.' This comes shortly after it was announced that Robbie has officially been nominated for a knighthood for his contribution to music and charity. It is now up to the honours committee who will send a shortlist of recommendations to the Prime Minister Keir Starmer and then King Charles to sign off. Robbie is tied with The Beatles for the most UK No1 albums, with 15 chart-topping records, as well as seven No1 singles as a solo artist. He is also responsible for creating Soccer Aid way back in 2006, which to date has raised £106 million for UNICEF, who he has been an ambassador for since 2000. Robbie has been involved in 11 Comic Relief events and is a patron for Music Support — a charity helping people in the industry who are suffering from addiction or mental health issues. Radio 2 breakfast show host Scott Mills has thrown his weight behind calls for Rob to get the honour. Scott told Bizarre: 'I think Robbie should be knighted, 100 per cent. For his contribution for music alone. 'Let's not forget, he's the most decorated Brits winner in history. I think we should celebrate and acknowledge how much joy he has brought.
