The Sindh government on Monday issued a notification to extend the last date for acquiring the new numb plates for vehicles from August 14 to October 31.
The notification came a few hours after the Sindh Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla said on the Sindh Assembly floor that the Sindh government might consider extending the date for new number plates.

Responding to a call-attention notice by MQM member Qurat-ul-Ain Khan during Monday's Sindh Assembly session, he said the new plates are applicable across Sindh and enforcement will be strict everywhere.
He mentioned that the new number plates were introduced in 2021, and within two to three months, new centers will be established in Korangi, SITE Area, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Qurat-ul-Ain Khan pointed out that enforcement is lax in rural areas, while Karachi residents are being unnecessarily targeted. "The given deadline is too short, and the public is facing serious difficulties. The government should reconsider," she said.
Consequently, the deadline has been extended by the government.
Sindh Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to pay tribute to martyred police officers. The resolution was presented by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) member Farooq Awan, who called on the Sindh government to provide healthcare, education, and a special benefits package for the families of police martyrs.
Home Minister Sindh Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar supported the resolution, stating, "Today is Police Day, and the resolution holds great significance in the house. On the very day, Inspector General of Police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was martyred. The martyrs of Sindh Police laid down their lives to protect the lives and property of the people."
He said, he had personally visited the katcha areas, where police officers are bravely conducting operations against terrorists. These areas are so difficult to access that even APCs (armored personnel carriers) get stuck, yet police personnel remain resolute."
Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani also supported the resolution, saying that Farooq Awan's services are part of history. "He was attacked but returned to the field with renewed dedication," he said. Ghani also highlighted the police's need for modern weapons and technology, pointing out that "terrorists have access to advanced weapons and facilities that police do not."
He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan Army, Rangers, and intelligence agencies, noting that peace has only been achieved through their joint efforts.
Opposition Leader Ali Khursheedi also honored the police and other security force martyrs as a source of national pride, saying, "We must equip the police with modern weapons so they can perform their duties effectively."

Lawmakers unite for Kashmir cause

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to express solidarity with the people of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and condemn Indian atrocities on the occasion of Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir or the Kashmir Exploitation Day. The resolution, tabled by Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, was supported by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and all parties present in the House. Addressing the Assembly, CM Murad reiterated Pakistan's longstanding stance that Kashmir is the country's lifeline, terming India's move to strip the region of its special status as a blatant violation of international laws. He said the Modi government had betrayed both its citizens and the Kashmiri people, adding that Pakistan would continue to raise its voice against this illegal occupation at every level. Murad ecalled the contributions of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in championing the Kashmir cause internationally. He also revealed that India had attempted to attack Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) in May, but Pakistan's armed forces and the nation responded decisively, downing enemy aircraft and destroying airfields, forcing India to seek US intervention for a ceasefire. The CM also condemned Israeli atrocities in Gaza and urged the international community to take immediate action. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that despite political differences, the PPP, MQM, and PTI stood united for the cause of Kashmir. He noted that on August 5, 2019, India violated UN resolutions by revoking Kashmir's special status, and that the Indian forces had for decades subjected innocent Kashmiris to brutal repression, with thousands laying down their lives for freedom. Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi said the day must be observed to expose India's real face to the world. PPP's Jamil Soomro demanded the restoration of Kashmir's pre-August 5 status and the right to self-determination. MQM's Fauzia Hameed expressed confidence that the day was not far when Kashmiris would achieve their rights.

Sindh Assembly condemns India's actions in IIOJK

KARACHI: In a unified display of political will, the Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning India's vicious actions in Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and also expressing solidarity with the oppressed people in Gaza. The resolution, presented by Sindh's Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar, marked the observance of Youm-e-Istehsal; the day India unilaterally revoked the special constitutional status of Indian-occupied Kashmir in 2019. Bringing attention to Kashmir and Palestine, the Assembly slammed the Indian and Israeli governments for their systematic oppression of innocent civilians. Condemning Israeli atrocities in Gaza, the members urged the international community to take meaningful action against Israel's brutalities. The resolution on Kashmir was at the center of the Assembly's session, which suspended its regular agenda to dedicate the day to solidarity with Kashmiris. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reiterated Pakistan's longstanding position, declaring, 'Kashmir is our jugular vein.' He condemned the Indian government's move to alter the status of Kashmir as a blatant violation of international law, stressing that it could not silence the Kashmiri people's struggle for freedom. Speaking on the issue, Shah said, 'Today, we renew our pledge to raise our voice at every forum against the occupation that has robbed Kashmiris of their liberty. Our founder Shaheed Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, and President Asif Zardari have all consistently championed the Kashmiri cause on the world stage. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto is also courageously confronting Indian atrocities.' The Chief Minister also referenced recent tensions when India allegedly planned an attack on Azad Kashmir, stating that Pakistan's armed forces and the nation responded with strength, forcing India to seek American intervention for a ceasefire. Sindh PA passes resolution to pay tribute to police martyrs

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution paying tribute to the martyrs of Sindh Police, recognising their sacrifices in maintaining law and order across the province. The resolution, moved by Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Farooq Awan, urged the provincial government to provide comprehensive support packages, including healthcare, education, and employment opportunities, for the families of fallen officers. Supporting the resolution, Sindh Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar said that the sacrifices of police martyrs have restored peace in the province. 'This is Police Day, and it's a fitting occasion to bring this important resolution to the House. The police personnel who laid down their lives did so for the safety and security of our people. I have visited the katcha areas, and I can vouch for the bravery of our officers operating there under extremely dangerous conditions,' he said. He added that the Sindh government was working on a policy to provide lifetime salaries and two jobs to the families of martyrs, in line with directives from Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani endorsed the resolution and appreciated Farooq Awan's continued efforts despite facing an attack himself in the past. 'While police have been equipped with weapons and machinery, they still lack the advanced technology and arms possessed by terrorists. It's the combined bravery of police, armed forces, Rangers, and intelligence agencies that has kept us safe,' he said. Opposition Leader Ali Khurshidi also extended support to the resolution, calling police and other security forces' martyrs 'national pride.' He demanded that the police should be armed with modern weapons to enhance performance. The Assembly proceedings earlier saw Excise and Taxation Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla respond to a call attention notice by MQM lawmaker Qurat Ul Ain Khan regarding the new vehicle number plates. He indicated that the provincial government may extend the deadline for the installation of the new security-featured number plates if needed. 'These plates were launched in 2021 and are mandatory across Sindh. Strict action will be taken everywhere, not just Karachi,' he stated. He also announced that new centers would soon be opened in Korangi, SITE Area, and Gulshan for public convenience. Qurat Ul Ain Khan argued that rural areas often face no enforcement, while Karachi residents bear the brunt of the deadline. She said the limited timeline was causing distress among vehicle owners. MQM's Aamir Siddiqui raised water shortage issues in his constituency and accused Water Board officials of taking bribes for illegal connections. 'I've raised this issue multiple times but no resolution has come,' he said. Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Qasim Siraj Soomro assured a thorough investigation and said that outdated pipelines and old pumping machinery were the root causes. 'We've requested K-Electric for a special feeder and will summon the Water Board MD to the Assembly,' he said. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Mohammad Owais highlighted concerns over the allocation and misuse of development funds by UC and Town Chairmen. 'Councillors are ignored completely. They should have signing authority on audit reports,' he said. Qasim Siraj Soomro responded that the Assembly had already increased funds to empower local councils and encouraged councillors to lodge complaints with the Local Government Board if necessary.
