As REAL ID deadline approaches, mobile SOS unit to make stop in Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A mobile Michigan Secretary of State office will be at the Kent County Clerk's Office on Tuesday to help residents prepare for the upcoming federal REAL ID deadline.
The unit will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 300 Monroe Ave. NW in Grand Rapids, offering REAL ID conversions without the need for an appointment.
The collaboration aims to streamline the process, particularly for residents who need documents like birth certificates or marriage licenses — available at the clerk's office — to complete their REAL ID applications.
Beginning May 7, a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or state ID will be required for domestic air travel, entry to certain federal buildings and access to military bases.
To get a REAL ID, applicants must bring their current Michigan license or ID and an original or certified document proving legal presence, such as a valid U.S. passport, birth certificate or permanent resident card. Name-change documents, such as marriage licenses, are also required if applicable.
Enhanced Michigan driver's licenses and IDs already meet REAL ID standards.

Iran launches overnight missile attack on Israel
TEL AVIV, ISRAEL (Associated Press ) — Israel has warned of more attacks on Iran after Iran's deadly retaliatory missile strikes on Israel overnight and into Saturday. The blistering Israeli attacks on Iran's nuclear program and its armed forces began on Friday. Israel's assault used warplanes, as well as drones smuggled into the country in advance, to assault key facilities and kill top generals and scientists. Iran's U.N. ambassador said 78 people were killed and more than 320 wounded in the attacks. Israel said the barrage was necessary before Iran got any closer to building an atomic weapon.
