LANHAM, Md. (DC News Now) — Prince George's County was under a winter storm warning Tuesday, but the timing could not be worse — the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission was working to stop a water main break that was impacting people in the county.
Crews also had to work to keep Prince George's County roads as clean as possible.
Audrey Sturdiavng, a resident in Prince George's County, says she's not ready for more snow after the last snow storm.
'We still got a bunch of snow from the last time it snowed, and now we're getting ready to get some more on top of that,' said Sturdiavng.
Deputy Director of Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation Oluseyi Olugbenle says they've been preparing for this for days in advance.
Schools across DMV announce closures, delays ahead of forecasted snow
'We've been preparing and tracking this storm as early as last week. We brought in additional brining operations to make sure we pretreated the roads as early as Sunday,' said Olugbenle. 'We actually started, some as early as 6:30 a.m., 7 a.m. to get out there and pretreat the roads.'
The water pipe burst is another issue for Prince Georgians. WSSC Water said crews located the water break along the outer loop of Interstate 495 near the MD exchange. Due to the size of the water main break, officials say that it is possible that customers will not have access to water.
'One of my daughters lived on the other side of town..they have been affected by the water main break,' said Sturdiavng
DPW also has to deal with the pipe burst.
'Unfortunately, we were affected by the water main break.' said Olugbenle 'But the great thing about our team is that we plan for A, plan A, plan B, and Z. The water is running in our bathrooms, and we're good to go.'
According to a spokesperson for WSSC Water, the boil water advisory will stay in place for two to three days depending on testing.
