BT, Sky, Virgin Media customers issued Wi-Fi warning to check routers now
Requesting an upgrade from their Internet Service Provider (ISP) can lead to peace of mind by the knowledge that your internet is secure, as newer models offer the latest protection against hacking.
Broadband Savvy has issued new guidance, highlighting the leaps in Wi-Fi technology and the pitfalls of clinging to outdated equipment.

The warning has been specifically issued to those that still use a Wi-Fi 5 router, as they are no longer supported by most ISPs.
They have been eclipsed by newer iterations such as Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and even Wi-Fi 7.
Tom Paton, founder of Broadband Savvy, said: "Compared to more modern standards, like WiFi 6, 6E, and 7, WiFi 5 has significant limitations for the end-user.
"WiFi 5 is fine for slower broadband connections, such as the 30-50 Mbps packages that were popular in 2010-2015, as long as you don't have lots of internet-connected devices.
"But certain providers are still shipping these routers to customers buying an ultrafast broadband plan, even though they're not designed for this."
He added: "Most broadband plans on the market at the moment come with a 24 month contract.
"In two years' time, WiFi 5 will be essentially obsolete, which is why we're urging broadband providers to at least offer the option of a better router on their fast fibre plans."
If you haven't checked for upgrades with you ISP in some time, it's important that you do, as if could signify that you're overdue an newer, safer, model.
Tom adds: "When buying, insist on at least a WiFi 6 router - but be aware that one or two major providers still don't offer this as an option," noted Paton.
"For example, as a cheaper, more basic provider, Plusnet is still shipping the Smart Hub 2 WiFi 5 router, even on their ultrafast 500 Mbps and 900 Mbps plans.
"On the other hand, EE offers the choice of a WiFi 6 or WiFi 7 router across all of their tariffs."

Helldivers 2 CEO says "we know the game isn't in tip top shape right now" and Arrowhead devs are back from vacation to focus "100% on bug fixing and optimization"

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead is well aware of the myriad bugs and optimization issues players are dealing with, and after a two-week vacation reset, CEO Shams Jorjani has committed to focusing on that stuff. Right about two weeks ago, the official Arrowhead Twitter account shared, "the team is entering Swedish Summer Protocol: 2 weeks of lakes, fika & tactical sunbathing," assuring determined freedom fighters, "service continues, the Galactic War rages on, and Super Earth still needs you. We'll be back soon, recharged and ready to drop even harder." Well, true to its word, the folks at Arrowhead took the next couple of weeks off, and their break just happened to start a few days after a balance patch dropped. It seems that update came with some bugs of its own, as Jorjani acknowledged on the official Helldivers 2 Discord that the game needs bug squashing and optimization. To be clear, these messages were sent shortly after Arrowhead jetted off on its vacation, but it's notable that Jorjani explicitly committed to addressing the game's performance post-vacation. "Most people are back on the 4th (office closure ends)," Jorjani said. "And we'll be focusing 100% on bug fixing and optimization. Sorry for the inconvenience. We know the game isn't in tip top shape right now." Jorjani also admitted "we should have left things in a better state with the last update." Since it sounds like the majority of the Helldivers team just got back to the office today, they'll presumably be head down on bugs and optimization for a little while, but Jorjani also confirmed armor color customization is "high on the list" and that "we want to take our time with such a feature" and not rush anything "until it's in a good place." "So probably not coming soon, but coming," he said. Woman wins $200,000 case after her phone started a house fire while charging
TL;DR A woman has been awarded the equivalent of $200,000 after her phone caused a house fire while charging. The court ruled the LG K8 was defective and failed to meet safety expectations. Most of the payout will go to her insurer, but she also received compensation for injuries. We've heard multiple reports of the Google Pixel 6a melting down over recent months, but nothing as nightmarish as this. For one woman, her plugged-in Android phone caused a house fire, eventually leading to a six-figure payout from the manufacturer. As reported by the BBC, a judge at Edinburgh Sheriff Court has ruled that an LG K8 smartphone caused a fire while charging, awarding £150,000 ($200,000) in damages. The majority of that will go to the woman's insurer, but she was also compensated for smoke inhalation and the mental health impact. The fire began in the living room on October 31, 2018, while the LG phone was charging with the correct equipment. A second phone and a laptop were also plugged in nearby, but the judge concluded that the LG was the source. He found it failed to meet basic safety expectations and was defective. Denise Parks and her husband were asleep upstairs when the fire started. She was later treated for smoke inhalation and experienced heightened anxiety and panic attacks, leaving her unable to work for several months. The phone had been issued by her employer, and the lawsuit was filed against LG Electronics UK Ltd. While the incident happened back in 2018, the ruling and payout have only just been finalized.
