Four-year-old killed in Easter horror accident had birthday on Saturday

A four-year-old boy who died in a horror accident in Mullingar over the Easter weekend had celebrated his birthday on Saturday.
The child, named locally as Abdur Rehman, died in the tragic accident in which he was struck by a car in Farranshock Estate, Co Westmeath just after 6:30pm on Monday.
The boy was treated at the scene before being rushed to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A four-year-old boy who died in a horror accident in Mullingar over the Easter weekend had celebrated his birthday on Saturday.
The car that is believed to have been involved in the horrific accident was taken by forensic collision investigators on Tuesday morning.
The horror accident occurred just yards from the boy's home.
It has also been reported that the family had just recently welcomed a new baby that was Abdur's sibling.
A statement from a garda spokesperson told Extra.ie on Monday: 'Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision in Mullingar, County Westmeath, which occurred on Monday, 21st April 2025.
'Shortly after 6:30pm, Gardaí and emergency services responded to a collision in Farranshock Estate, Mullingar, after a young boy was struck by a car.
'He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.
'The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
'Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and have camera footage (including dash-cam recordings) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
'Anyone with information is urged to contact Mullingar Garda Station at 044 938 4000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.'
