Influencer dad throws 7yo son off cliff
Garrett Gee, the influencer who created The Bucket List Family, said this was not something he advised any parent to try, as he stood on the edge of a cliff with his son and pushed him over into the water several metres below.
'Most people won't love how we teach our kids how to cliff jump,' Gee wrote in a caption over the video, which has amassed over three million views.
The clip shows Gee guiding his son, Calihan, to the edge of the huge rock face and giving him some words of encouragement before picking him up and chucking him into the water.
Calihan treads the water alone for a brief moment as he receives cheers from onlookers before Gee jumps in after him, giving him a thumbs up.
The influencer dad captioned the video with a lengthy explanation on what drew him to throw his son off the cliff, making it clear that the post 'is NOT parental advice'.
'This is not something we've done with all our kids. Each kid is quite different so the way we parent, discipline and teach HOW TO CLIFF JUMP is quite different,' he wrote.
'For sure 1st priority is safety. 2nd is learning that YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS. 3rd is HAVE FUN :)'
Gee said he took his youngest son to a cliff height that he would feel comfortable with and that the only danger would be if the child hesitated or didn't jump far enough out.
'So to be extra safe, because he wanted to jump but was not feeling confident...I threw him.
'Eventually a baby eagle needs to leave the nest..or be tossed out of the nest ;) and learn HE CAN FLY!'
He finished the post by warning viewers, 'teaching your kids to be brave starts to backfire when they become older and begin jumping from heights that you don't even dare!!'
The video, which has gone viral online, was met with mixed reactions.
One user asked if Calihan knew he was going to be thrown off the edge, to which Gee responded, 'YES. He had the choice to climb down, jump himself, or have me throw him. He chose to be thrown.'
Another viewer wrote, 'Each parent knows their kid and what they can handle. Looks fun when taught safely.'
'You guys are raising strong, smart, confident kids. I applaud your parenting style,' a third said.
While one user was outraged by the decision to throw the child.
'Nope. I've worked as a therapist with paediatric brain injury. Accidents happen, from some you never recover,' they said.

The leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah warned on Tuesday that if Israel intensifies its military operations against his group, the Iran-backed armed faction will resume firing missiles toward Israel. In a televised speech on Tuesday, Kassem said Hezbollah rejects any timetable to hand over its weapons. 'Israel's interest is not to widen the aggression because if they expand, the resistance will defend, the army will defend and the people will defend,' he said. 'This defence will lead to the fall of missiles inside Israel.' Since the war ended, Hezbollah has withdrawn most of its fighters and weapons from the area along the border with Israel south of the Litani river. Last week, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reiterated calls for Hezbollah to give up its weapons, angering the group's leadership. The ceasefire agreement left vague how Hezbollah's weapons and military facilities north of the Litani river should be treated, saying Lebanese authorities should dismantle unauthorised facilities starting with the area south of the river. Hezbollah maintains the deal covers only the area south of the Litani, while Israel and the US say it mandates disarmament of the group throughout Lebanon. Kassem said Hezbollah rejects a government vote over its weapons, saying such a decision should be unanimously backed by all Lebanese. 'No one can deprive Lebanon of its force to protect its sovereignty,' Kassem said. Hezbollah's weapons are a divisive issue among Lebanese, with some groups calling for its disarmament. The Israel-Hezbollah war started a day after the October 7 2023 Hamas-led attack against Israel from Gaza. It left more than 4,000 people dead and caused 11 billion dollars (£8.3 billion) of damage.
