Will broadcasting cuts mute weather alerts in rural America?
Along the Atlantic coast, station managers are seeing cuts take effect in the heart of hurricane season. Across the Northern Plains, managers warn that rural areas could be left without weather alerts during winter storms.
And PBS outlets in Northern California towns that can push alerts during an earthquake in seconds are now facing a complete shutdown. Without stations in cities like Eureka and Redding, which have lost over 40 percent of their operating budget, 'those areas would basically go dark,' PBS SoCal President Andrew Russell said.

'Our community is going to hurt,' said Gretchen Gordon, general manager of KUAC in Alaska. 'We're not going to be the same, and it won't be for lack of trying, but it's just that we just can't anymore.'

Gavin Newsom Fires Fresh Shots at ‘Tiny Hands' Trump Amid Failed Alaska Summit
California Governor Gavin Newsom is continuing to keep the heat on President Donald Trump after his 'nothing' talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Democratic Party's ' Petty King ' blasted Trump's much-anticipated Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin, in which the two leaders failed to make any progress toward bringing an end to the war in Ukraine. 'Trump just fled the podium with Putin—no questions, nothing!" Newsom tweeted in all caps. 'Total low energy. The man looked like he'd just eaten 3 buckets of KFC with Vlad.' He also took aim at the president's 'tiny' hands. Newsom has been on the warpath against Trump and the GOP ever since the president deployed Marines in Los Angeles in June. This week, Newsom ramped up his anti-MAGA social media offensive by mockingly adopting the president's trademark erratic social media tone. 'Enjoy your flight home, Donald—you're Putin's problem now,' Newsom continued. 'I'm America's solution.' His post to the social media site X also included a direct shot at White House Press Secretary Steven Cheung, with whom the governor is currently feuding. On Thursday, Cheung called Newsom a 'coward and beta cuck' for being 'too chickens---' to answer press questions, following a speech he made that day. Newsom's press team shot back, calling Cheung an 'idiot' who 'doesn't know how to use his computer,' accompanying the jab with a video of the nine questions answered. The latest salvo was ignited following the redistricting crisis in Texas. On Thursday, Newsom announced a special vote in California in November on redistricting in the state that could have significant election implications. The retaliatory vote is aimed at dissuading the Lone Star State and others from proceeding with their plans to alter voting districts in favor of the Republicans. 'Not only is Trump trying to rig the election, he's trying to ruin democracy,' Newsom said on Friday. ''The maps' will end your presidency, retake Congress for the people, and expose your rigged 'little game,'' Newsom wrote in his latest attack.

Neighbors Uncover Something Incredibly Sketchy at Mark Zuckerberg's Compound
Privatest School Pissed off neighbors of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg uncovered that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, were running a school that violated city code at their Palo Alto compound in California, The New York Times reports. It's a shocking revelation that couldn't have come at a worse time for the couple and Meta. Zuckerberg and Chan are under fire for closing two schools for low-income families and for Zuckerberg's Meta allowing its AI chatbots to have "spicy" conversations with children and teenagers. The incidents underscore a common complaint that Zuckerberg, one of the richest men in the world, and his fellow tech bros tend to operate above society's unspoken and agreed-upon rules. Technofeudalism Much Neighbors discovered the school after observing parents dropping off and picking up children at the house. They reported the sightings to city officials, who confirmed that Zuckerberg was operating a school without filing the proper legal paperwork, the NYT reports. The school started as a homeschooling pod during the COVID-19 pandemic and continued to operate well after, educating two of Zuckerberg's three young daughters along with a dozen other kids. Now that the city has cracked down, the school has moved elsewhere, possibly to a location that would meet any rules and regulations. Users on social media were incensed with the revelations about Zuckerberg's home, the closure of the low-income schools that the power couple was funding, and the inappropriate conversations that Meta's AI chatbots were allowed to have with kids. "The Zuckerbergs have become cartoon villains," one user tweeted on X. "It's almost comical how evil they've become."
