Will Messi play Inter Miami vs. Tigres Leagues Cup quarterfinal? What we know
Coach Javier Mascherano is expected to provide an update at a pre-game media conference after training.
Messi showed signs of discomfort during the Galaxy game, grabbing his leg on a few occasions, but he managed to score a goal in the 84th minute, provided a brilliant assist to Luis Suarez five minutes later, and he completed the game. He rushed off the field after the match.
Asked about Messi's condition after the game, Mascherano said: 'Leo wants to play every single game. He wanted to play in Orlando, also. It was impossible. It's like this. You have to understand why Leo is Leo. He always wants to be on the pitch. He's happy there. Sometimes we try to explain to him to go slowly, but at the end, when he feels good, he knows himself like no one, so we tried to give him minutes to get him ready for the next games.'
Although Miami has proven it can win without the Argentine icon, his absence against a Mexican heavyweight like Tigres would be significant.
Both teams were favored to make a deep run in the Leagues Cup and have been in good form during the tournament.
Inter beat Atlas and Pumas and earned two points against Necaxa with a penalty shootout win in the group phase to advance to the quarterfinals. Tigres beat the Houston Dynamo and San Diego FC and lost to LAFC 2-1.
Tigres got stronger this summer with the addition of Argentine attacker Angel Correa, who was a teammate of Messi's and Rodrigo De Paul's on the World Cup championship team. Correa and De Paul began this season as teammates with Atletico Madrid and both made summer moves.
Correa scored twice in a 4-1 win over Houston and scored another pair of goals in the 2-1 win over San Diego. He also scored in Tigres' 7-0 Liga MX victory over Puebla.
'He's a guy who is really good and showed up humble, ready to add to the group, made himself available,' said Tigres coach Guido Pizarro. 'We're lucky to have him and hopefully we can keep enjoying him.'

Orlando Pride finalizing record deal with Tigres for Lizbeth Ovalle, AP source says
Lizbeth Ovalle is expected to join the Orlando Pride from Mexico's Tigres UANL on a record transfer fee of $1.5 million, a person with knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The deal is expected to be completed by the National Women's Soccer League's transfer deadline on Monday. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the agreement had not yet been formally signed. The transfer fee surpasses the $1.3 million fee Arsenal paid Liverpool for Canadian striker Olivia Smith in the English Women's Super League last month. That broke the previous record fee of $1.1 million that Chelsea paid the San Diego Wave for defender Naomi Girma in January. Ovalle, a 25-year-old winger, has led the Tigres of Liga MX Femenil to six titles since joining the club in 2017. She is the team's all-time leading scorer with 136 goals. She's also made 58 appearances for the Mexican national team with 20 goals. Nicknamed La Maga (The Magician), Ovalle went viral on social media this year with a so-called 'scorpion kick' goal, only facing away from the net, in a Tigres match against Guadalajara.

Julio César Chávez Jr. immediately arrested in Mexico after U.S. deportation, placed in maximum-security prison
Julio César Chávez Jr. has been deported from the United States to his native Mexico, where the boxer was immediately arrested and jailed in Sonora. Chávez was initially arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in early July — just four days after losing a unanimous decision to Jake Paul — in Studio City, California, for overstaying his visa and lying on a green-card application. He was detained in the U.S. for more than a month before he could be deported and arrested in Mexico for alleged involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition and explosives. It is claimed that the four-year investigation into Chávez began in 2019 and found him to have ties to the Sinaloa Cartel, with a warrant issued for his arrest in Mexico in 2023. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Chávez's deportation on Tuesday to reporters. Chávez Jr. is currently being held in a federal maximum-security prison in Hermosillo, Sonora. Chávez, a former WBC middleweight champion, is the son of the legendary boxer Julio César Chávez Sr. He famously battled Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in 2017 but lost handily in the all-Mexican affair. Recently, Chávez Jr. has been battling alcohol addiction and has competed at a lower level since quitting on the stool against Daniel Jacobs in 2019. Chávez's loss to Paul was a disappointment for many boxing purists as the former champion was reluctant to engage for much of the contest, though when he did let his hands go in the final couple of rounds, he had success — leading many to feel that if he had began the fight with the intent to win, rather than survive, he might've emerged victorious against Paul.
