HBO's ‘Harry Potter' Casts 9 More Roles, Including Draco Malfoy
HBO has cast several more key roles its Harry Potter TV series — including the Malfoys and the Dursleys.
The TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's fantasy series has announced nine actors playing key roles for its first season tackling Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

The cast includes (from left to right in the photo below) Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
In keeping with the show's commitment to have its characters closer to the ages in the books, the actors playing Harry's muggle aunt and uncle look a bit younger — at least, when out of character — than the Vernon and Petunia in the Warner Bros. films (who were played by Richard Griffiths and Fiona Shaw). In the books, the duo are in their mid-thirties when the story begins with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
The nine join many previously announced castmembers, which include Emmy winner John Lithgow (Conclave) as Hogwarts' wise and warm Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Oscar nominee Janet McTeer (Ozark) as stern Transfiguration Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu (Black Mirror) will take on the role of the sneering Potions Professor Severus Snape, Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) will play the lumbering Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid. In addition, stage actor Luke Thallon will play Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor Quirinus Quirrel and Paul Whitehouse (Harry & Paul) has been cast as the curmudgeonly caretaker Argus Filch.
They join the previously announced kids' cast: Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout is the new Ron Weasley.
HBO's plan is to adapt each of Rowling's seven novels into a season of television. HBO has also rereleased a statement about the adaptation and its place in the Harry Potter universe: 'The series will be a faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer J.K. Rowling and will feature an exciting and talented cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail and much-loved characters Harry Potter fans have adored for over 25 years. Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring Harry Potter and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences and will stream exclusively on Max where it's available globally, including upcoming markets such as Turkey, the U.K., Germany and Italy, among others. The original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch around the world.'
Francesca Gardiner is showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod is the director of multiple episodes and executive producer. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.

The World's Best Blended Scotch Whisky—According To The 2025 ASCOT Awards
The American Spirits Council of Tasters--or ASCOTs, for short--has just released its big winners for 2025. Well, sorta. As has became standard practice for competitions these days, the intel is meted out in drips and drams so that consumers can be kept on their toes throughout the year, as opposed to having it all over and done with in one succinct announcement. In the case of the ASCOTs, we now have the first round of medalists as designated by its prestigious panel of judges, consisting of 54 talented individuals from every corner of the industry; journalists, bartenders, educators, and assorted media personalities. According to its website, the council promises to reveal Best in Category winners, followed by Whiskey and Non-Whiskey of the Year in the weeks ahead--all leading up to the big reveal: 2025 Best In Show. You can trust that there'll be ample buzz generated around those bottles (last year's Bourbon of the Year was virtually unknown at the time and was ripped from shelves almost immediately thereafter). In the meantime, we can share with you the grand winner in one broad category of brown booze, at least. And it's one that hardly could be considered unknown to any self-respecting sipper. The top prize for Blended Scotch Whisky of the Year goes to Chivas Regal 12 Year Old. One of the best-selling scotches on the market today, the Pernod Ricard-owned label is both easy-drinking and complex. It carries a custardy, slightly banana-laden nose, evolving into spiced barley and candied walnuts atop the palate. Subtle pepper spice tickles the tongue before the 80-proof spirit fades from memory. Its enviable performance at this year's ASCOTs can hardly be seen as an outlier. This particular expression has been hauling home the hardware on the competition circuit in recent years. F. Paul Pacult, respected founder of the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, recently referred to Chivas 12 as 'the blend for grownups.' He wasn't suggesting that underaged drinkers are drawn to all those other blends, of course. Merely that the overarching category of blended scotch more generally appeals to the masses. After all, it does definitionally carry a large component of lighter grain spirit in its mix. And so it can lack the deep complexities aimed at the elevated palates of single malt connoisseurs (effete sarcasm intended). Those stereotypes are unfounded because, yes, blended scotch, can be both complex and widely-appealing at the same time. And Chivas Regal 12 underscores the point. Best of all, it does so at a price point of roughly $20 per bottle. Try finding a worthwhile single malt for that! The ASCOT judges, for their part, will certainly try. They will conduct a taste-off between three peated and three non-peated expressions of single malt scotch in the upcoming weeks. I'll be sure to weigh in with my commentary on the ultimate winner. So keep it parked here to stay informed. Meanwhile, just remember that great whisky arrives in all different price-tags and categories.

Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan name-dropped in Diddy's trial as prosecution nears end of testimony
As prosecutors neared the end of their witness list in Sean "Diddy" Combs' trial, multiple celebrities were mentioned in court. Sports legends Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal were mentioned during the fifth week of trial testimony in the rapper's sex trafficking and racketeering case. Diddy's trial began May 12 with opening statements. Throughout the past week of testimony, the jury mostly heard from the disgraced music mogul's ex-girlfriend. Testifying under the pseudonym "Jane," she told the jury about her relationship with the rapper beginning in 2021. Jane detailed drug-fueled nights when Diddy allegedly forced her into having sex with male escorts while he watched. Here's a look at the celebrities mentioned in court. Diddy's ex-girlfriend mentioned three basketball superstars during her testimony Tuesday. Jane, testifying under a pseudonym, told the jury she used nicknames to sometimes refer to Diddy and a male escort named Paul during the trio's alleged "hotel nights." "Trifecta," was one nickname. Jane explained they used it "because it's three." "I think Sean was the one who said trifecta," Jane testified. "And then it became trifecta." Jane also testified that they gave each other nicknames relating to famous sports stars Kobe Bryant, Shaq and Michael Jordan. Jane was Bryant, Diddy was Jordan and the male escort was often referred to as Shaq, according to her testimony. Jane testified that she went to another man's "freak off" in January 2024 while on a break from their relationship. That man was an "icon in the music industry," according to Jane. The "very successful rapper," who was unidentified during testimony, invited Jane to travel to Las Vegas for his girlfriend's birthday. WATCH: DIDDY'S EX-GIRLFRIEND CROSS-EXAMINED AFTER 'GRAPHIC, DAYS-LONG' TESTIMONY During the trip, Jane claimed she ran into a male escort, Antoine, who had participated in "hotel nights" with her and Diddy. Antoine had sex with another woman while seven or eight people watched, according to Jane. She explained she was instructed to flash her breasts to the room after engaging in flirty banter with the unnamed rapper. According to Jane, the rapper and Diddy were close. Jane said Diddy did not find out about the trip until months later. He allegedly lashed out at his ex-girlfriend after reading messages about the trip on her phone. Jane also brought up rapper Yung Miami during her testimony Tuesday. The music mogul began dating Caresha, known as Yung Miami, about six months to a year after Jane and Diddy began dating. Jane agreed that she was hurt by the rapper's relationship with Yung Miami because it was a "public relationship that looked from the outside to be a monogamous one." "Yeah, it was definitely not something that I signed up for," Jane told the court. "I didn't sign up to date a man that was in a public relationship." Diddy's former assistant, David James, testified May 20 that the rapper typically carried "25 to 30" undisclosed pill bottles. According to James, some of the pills were ecstasy. "Can you describe the ecstasy that you saw him taking?" Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Slavik asked. "There were various pills, but there was one that was in the shape of a former president's face," James explained. "Which former president?" the prosecutor questioned. "President Obama," James answered. Former Danity Kane singer Dawn Richard testified Usher was at a dinner where Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly punched Cassie Ventura in the stomach. "We were having a private conversation, and we were all sitting, eating at the tables together," Richard recalled during her testimony. "When I say we, I mean some Bad Boy, some of our other label and even some celebrities were in the room. And they were secretly arguing, and he punched her in the stomach. Sean Combs punched her in the stomach. "She immediately bent over and then was — he was — he told her to leave because I could see him point out, and she went out and left the room." Richard claimed music executive Harve Pierre, two of Diddy's assistants, the rapper's security and Kalenna Harper were present for the West Hollywood dinner. During cross-examination, it was revealed that Richard hadn't mentioned all of the celebrities at the dinner. "Usher was there. Jimmy Iovine was there. Ne-Yo came through," Richard eventually added. "There were a few others, too. I don't recall those people, but those are the ones I remember talking to." Diddy's former executive assistant, Capricorn Clark, mentioned both Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey during her testimony May 27. Clark claimed she thought Diddy's ex, Cassie Ventura, was talented but was more of a studio artist. "Why do you think she just had talent as opposed to being very talented?" Diddy's lawyer asked the ex-assistant. "Um, talented to me is Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey," Clark said. "Very talented is that level of performer, entertainer. Cassie was more of a studio artist." Clark described a studio artist as "a little bit more comfortable in the vocal booth to have a little bit of things equalized for you and, you know, engineered properly. Less of a live performer."
