Lithgow, who plays Dumbledore, principal of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, is an Emmy Award winner for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "The Crown," a Netflix series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth, despite his American origin. He is known as a Tony Award-winning and twice Academy Award-nominated actor. McTeer, who was chosen to play McGonagall, the housemaster of Gryffindor, where Harry and his friends belong, is from England. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for "Tumbleweeds" (2000) and Best Supporting Actress for "The Life of Albert" (2012), and has also appeared in TV dramas, including the Emmy Award-winning drama "Welcome to the Ozarks. Essiedu, who was chosen to play Snape, played by Alan Rickman in the film version, is also from England. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for "I MAY DESTROY YOU" and an Academy Award nomination for "The Lazarus Project" and for "Turn Back the Clock, Save the World! for which he received a British Academy Award nomination, and the stage production of "A Doll's House," for which he won a Tony Award and an Olivier Award. HBO Reveals First Cast Members for "Harry Potter" Series

Yara Sameh HBO has confirmed the first cast members for the highly-anticipated 'Harry Potter' TV series. The cast now includes the following series regulars: John Lithgow ('Conclave,' 'The Crown') as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer ('Tumbleweeds,' 'The White Queen') as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu ('I May Destroy You,' 'Gangs of London') as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost ('Shaun of the Dead,' 'Hot Fuzz') as Rubeus Hagrid. It had previously been reported that all four actors were in talks for the show. In addition, Luke Thallon (Tom Stoppard's 'Leopoldstadt,' Rupert Goold's 'Patriots') has joined in the recurring role of Quirinus Quirrell. Paul Whitehouse ('The Fast Show,' 'Harry & Paul') will appear in the recurring role of Argus Filch. These are the first confirmed actors for the highly-anticipated series. When it comes to the main roles — Harry, Ron, and Hermione — HBO launched an open casting call in the fall, with over 30,000 submissions. The show is expected to begin filming this summer. HBO is describing the show as a 'faithful adaptation' of the globally recognized J.K. Rowling book series. 'Exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring 'Harry Potter' and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences,' per the official description. The series is written and executive produced by Gardiner, who also serves as showrunner. Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. HBO announces casting for Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Hagrid in upcoming Harry Potter series

HBO has officially confirmed the first batch of actors for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series. Among the newly announced cast members are John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. These actors were previously reported to be in talks for the roles, but their casting has now been officially confirmed. Additionally, Luke Thallon, known for his work in Leopoldstadt, has joined the series in the recurring role of Quirinus Quirrell.
