Grammy-winning rapper Scott Mescudi — better known by his stage name, Kid Cudi — took the witness stand today as prosecutors continued sketching their portrait of Diddy's violent and chaotic world. Here's what the 'Pursuit of Happiness' singer told jurors, and what we heard from today's other witnesses as the sex trafficking trial reached the end of its second week:
Kid Cudi, who briefly dated Diddy's off-and-on girlfriend Cassie, accused Diddy of breaking into his Hollywood Hills home in 2011 and then told jurors about his Porsche catching on fire in 2012 after a Molotov cocktail was thrown inside. Cassie previously testified that Diddy, in a jealous rage, threatened to blow up Kid Cudi's car.
The two men met at a Los Angeles hotel after the fire. Kid Cudi recalled Diddy staring out a window with his hands behind his back like a 'Marvel supervillain.' Diddy seemed to be unaware of the fire — but years later, he offered Kid Cudi a general apology for the past, Kid Cudi testified. Diddy's legal team says he wasn't involved in any arson attack.
George Kaplan, Diddy's ex-assistant, described an altercation between the rapper and Cassie on a private jet in 2015. Kaplan testified he heard glass shatter and saw Diddy standing over Cassie with a whiskey glass. He said Cassie yelled: 'Isn't anybody seeing this?' Kaplan said he once bought beauty products to cover up bruises on Cassie's face.
Mylah Morales, a makeup artist who worked with Cassie (as well as Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez), testified about the aftermath of Diddy's alleged beating of Cassie after a party hosted by Prince. Morales said she didn't witness any violence but heard yelling and later saw Cassie with a swollen eye, busted lip and knots on her head.
Frederic Zemmour, the general manager of the L'Ermitage Beverly Hills hotel, told jurors that a room would require deep cleaning after one of Diddy's stays. The hotel's notes on the rapper's profile said he left behind 'excessive amounts' of oil and candle wax. (Diddy's legal team elected not to cross-examine Zemmour.)
ALSO: In a 37-second video posted to X this afternoon, Kid Cudi directly addressed the camera and thanked his fans for 'all the love and support' in the lead-up to his testimony. 'This is a stressful situation,' he added. 'I'm glad it's behind me.'
Kid Cudi was by far today's main attraction. The celebrated rapper, wearing a black leather jacket over a white T-shirt, drew a crowd of spectators in the rain outside the courthouse. He identified himself on the stand as an 'actor and musician,' a nod to his roles in films like 'Don't Look Up' and 'X.' In general, he struck a confident tone and often spoke animatedly.
Diddy, wearing a cream-colored top over khaki pants, sat back in his chair with his arms and legs crossed during parts of Kid Cudi's testimony. He seemed to be listening closely, calmly taking in the back-and-forth without displaying much emotion.
Maurene Comey, one of the prosecutors, heatedly told Judge Arun Subramanian she was 'shocked' that defense lawyer Brian Steel asked Kid Cudi about his sexual activity with Cassie, calling the question out of bounds and 'outrageous.' Subramanian agreed, saying 'the line was clear and crossed.' He chastised Steel and ruled the exchange should be struck from the record.
In other news: The reporters in the gallery were treated to some rare levity this morning as the attorneys debated whether Kid Cudi could testify about his dog's behavioral changes after the 2011 break-in at his home.
Steel told Subramanian that prosecutors wanted the rapper to testify that his pet was traumatized. Emily Johnson, a prosecutor, argued that comments about the dog were relevant to the break-in.
'He's not going to testify to what the dog thought,' Subramanian said, drawing laughter. (Subramanian ultimately ruled that Kid Cudi could testify about the dog, but only in general terms. Johnson explained that the animal is 'no longer with us.')
Kid Cudi testified today that, in 2012, his dog watcher called to alert him that his car was on fire. He testified that it appeared someone had cut open the top of his Porsche, and 'that's where the Molotov cocktail was put in,' destroying the car.
This is critical evidence for the prosecution because it is evidence of arson, which is one of the 'predicate' racketeering crimes listed in the racketeering (RICO) statute. However, Diddy is charged with racketeering conspiracy, which is even easier for the government to prove.
To convict a defendant of racketeering conspiracy, the government must prove only that the defendant agreed with others to conduct the affairs of an enterprise through a pattern of racketeering (those predicate crimes). The government does not need to prove a conspiracy to commit those specific predicate acts, like the arson of Kid Cudi's car.
In fact, the government must prove only that two racketeering acts were, or were intended to be, committed as part of the conspiracy. The government does not have to prove that the defendant himself committed any of these predicate crimes (like arson). The government doesn't even need to prove Diddy himself agreed to commit any of the predicate acts (like arson).
While the government must establish that Diddy participated in some manner in the overall objective of the conspiracy, it does not need to prove that the hip-hop mogul himself tossed a Molotov cocktail into the Porsche, or even that he participated in the arson himself.
No court tomorrow. The trial resumes on Tuesday, after Memorial Day. Enjoy your holiday weekend.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing — The Exhibition Amazes In Chicago

Marvel's Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition Chicago's Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is currently featuring another beyond impressive exhibit with Marvel's Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing – The Exhibition, running through Feb. 8, 2026. It first swung into the museum on May 22. The traveling exhibit was developed by Semmel Exhibitions in conjunction with Marvel and co-curated by comic scholars Benjamin Saunders and Patrick A. Reed. It was also designed by acclaimed Berlin-based collective StudioTK. Saunders, Reed, and StudioTK previously worked with Marvel and Semmel on the hit touring exhibition Marvel: The Exhibition - Universe Of Super Heroes. In addition to Spider-Man and Marvel, the museum has also sported other top-notch entertainment exhibits focusing on Walt Disney, Pixar, and James Bond as the subjects in recent years. Where the latest special exhibit at MSI succeeds is in blending original meaningful comic book art, iconic costumes and rare props from the films, and fun interactive photo ops. The mixture of the spectacular Spidey elements will wow web-slinger fans from young children to seniors and the average MCU watcher to devout comic readers and collectors. The exhibit takes you from the creation and first appearance of the character to his evolution into mainstream pop culture, a journey spanning six decades. My top 5 must-see items at the new Spider-Man exhibit: 1. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin mask and bomb from 2002's 'Spider-Man': Considered one of, if not the best comic-book movie villains of all time, Dafoe's take on Norman Osborn in the Sam Raimi directed flick, that helped ignite the on-screen superhero craze, is legendary. Seeing the mask up close is an awe-inspiring experience for any superhero or movie fan. The piece was one of the best items the museum could have possibly featured in the exhibit. Full marks to MSI for snagging it. 2. Design sketch for original Spider-Man Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon: This piece was the biggest surprise for me. Not only did the Spider-Man balloon become one of the parade's most iconic, but the 1987 original concept sketch was done by top Spider-Man artist John Romita. Another applaudable find and display item for the museum. New York, N.Y.: Spiderman heads down 6th Ave. during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on November ... More 28, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by Howard Schnapp/Newsday RM via Getty Images) 3. Tom Holland's main suit from 2021's 'Spider-Man: No Way Home': Tom Holland is this generation's Spider-Man and it seems the current web-slinger is sticking around for some time still. Sporting a costume from the monumental Spidey blockbuster was another good look for the exhibit and museum. 4. An Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 5.5 Valued by Comic Book Price Guide at $82,000, the unrivaled 1962 comic book featured the creation of the character from writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. Legendary comic artist Jack Kirby's work is featured on the cover as the first cover art of the famed superhero. The curators could have settled for lower grade issue, which still would have impressed the majority of exhibit goers, but to the delight of comic book fans and collectors, they took things up a notch. 5. Original cover art for Ultimate Fallout #4 Likely the exhibit's best pull for original Spidey comic art, 2011's Ultimate Fallout #4 features the first appearance of Miles Morales, who becomes the new Spider-Man following the death of Peter Parker. Morales quickly won comic fans over, is featured in the preschool age Disney series Spidey and His Amazing Friends, and is likely to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the near future.

David Beckham, Gary Oldman, Elaine Paige and others honored by King Charles III

LONDON (AP) — Arise Sir David, Sir Gary and Sir Roger. And Dame Elaine, Dame Pat and Dame Penny. Former England soccer captain David Beckham, Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman and The Who's frontman Roger Daltrey were knighted in King Charles III's birthday honors list released late Friday. Elaine Paige, the renowned musicals singer, Booker Prize-winning novelist Pat Barker and former Conservative government minister Penny Mordaunt were given damehoods, the female equivalent of a knighthood. The honors, which aim to reward individuals for their contributions to British life, are awarded twice a year to celebrities and public figures as well as ordinary people: Once at New Year's, and then in June to mark the king's birthday. The winners are chosen by civil servants' committees based on nominations from the government and the public. The awards are usually given out by the king or a senior royal acting in his place at Buckingham Palace. The Sirs Beckham, 50, was widely expected to be knighted following speculation last week that appeared to be based on a conversation he had with the monarch at the Chelsea Flower Show last month. As well as representing England 115 times, including 59 times as captain, Beckham played for some of Europe's most venerable clubs, most notably Manchester United and Real Madrid. He has been knighted for his services to sport and to charity, having partnered with UNICEF, the U.N.'s children's fund, for two decades and campaigned with a charity working to eradicate malaria. Beckham also played a pivotal role in London being awarded the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. 'Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honor," he said. Oldman, 67, was recognized for his services to drama both on screen and on stage. He won an Oscar for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the 2017 film 'Darkest Hour," and recently dazzled audiences in the Apple TV spy thriller series ' Slow Horses.' Daltrey, who co-founded The Who in 1964, has been recognized for services to charity as well as music, having been a patron of 'Teenage Cancer Trust' since 2000. The 81-year-old, who led the charity's concert series at Royal Albert Hall for more than two decades, said he was humbled by the award. 'It's a dream come true for me, but it's especially a dream because the charity means so much," he said. The Dames Paige, 77, was honoured for her services to charity as well as music. She has held senior roles at a charity supporting young people with acquired brain injury and another one that supports disabled tennis players. 'I've got all these different emotions coming at me all at once," she said. "I'm proud and I feel grateful and I'm thrilled and surprised, and so it's been quite a lot to take in.' Barker, 82, known for 'The Regeneration Trilogy," said she thought the letter announcing her damehood was from 'really angry' tax authorities. 'Nobody else does that kind of quality of paper," she said. 'I still sort of had to read the first paragraph several times before it sank in.' A year on from losing her seat at the general election when her Conservative Party lost office, Mordaunt said it was 'lovely to be appreciated in this way.' Mordaunt, 52, saw her profile boosted during the king's coronation ceremony in 2023. The former lawmaker made a memorable appearance bearing the 'sword of state," the first time the duty had been carried out by a woman. The 'Companion' Antony Gormley, the sculptor who was knighted in 2014, was made a 'Companion of Honour' for his services to art. The award is one of the most prestigious that the monarch can bestow to citizens in Britain and across the Commonwealth, as there are only 65 companions at any one time. Introduced in 1917 by King George V, the award recognizes people who have made 'a major contribution to the arts, science, medicine, or government lasting over a long period of time.' Current members include British environmentalist David Attenborough, Canadian author Margaret Atwood and one of Britain's greatest-ever athletes Sebastian Coe. Hundreds more are awarded The honors don't just reward people in the public eye. More than 1,200 people received honours in the latest list. Women made up 48% of those honored, with 11% of recipients from ethnic minority backgrounds. The oldest recipient was 106-year-old World War II veteran William Irwin, who was awarded a British Empire Medal, for his services to the community. The youngest was 11-year-old disability campaigner Carmela Chillery-Watson, who was made a 'Member of the Most Excellent Order British Empire," or MBE. Chillery-Watson, who has LMNA congenital muscular dystrophy, has become the youngest ever recipient of the award for helping raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for Muscular Dystrophy UK. In what is thought to be a first, three members of the same family were named in the same list. Jenna Speirs, her mother Caroline and father Duncan were each awarded a British Empire Medal for founding a children's cancer charity called Calum's Cabin after Jenna's twin brother died of an inoperable brain tumour aged 12. Campaigners who have fought to tackle the rise of knife crime were also recognized. Pooja Kanda, whose 16-year-old son was murdered with a ninja sword near his home, was awarded the Order of the British Empire, or OBE. Alison Madgin, the mother of 18-year-old Samantha Madgin, who was knifed to death, was made an MBE alongside her daughter Carly Barrett.

Pro-Trump Christian artist issues ‘Confession' after several men accuse him of sexual assault

In a statement released to social media, Grammy Award-winning singer Michael Tait admits to abusing drugs and touching men without their consent. Grammy-winning contemporary Christian recording artist Michael Tait is coming clean after being accused of sexually assaulting several men, including young, male musicians. Tait, a former member of the Christian music groups DC Talk and Newsboys, released 'My Confession' in a statement posted to social media. 'Recent reports of my reckless and destructive behavior, including drug and alcohol abuse and sexual activity, are sadly, largely true,' said Tait, who has supported both presidential campaigns of President Donald Trump. 'I am ashamed of my life choices and actions. I will simply call it what God calls it–sin.' Tait, a 59-year-old native of Washington, D.C., is wildly successful in the Christian music industry, having sold 18 million albums and won four Grammy Awards. Much of his music has encouraged young Christian listeners to resist liberalism and live a life of sobriety, abstinence, and heterosexuality, reports The Guardian, which published an in-depth investigation of his alleged sexual misconduct and drug abuse. Tait's music was also part of the soundtrack to Trump's right-wing Make America Great Again, or MAGA, political movement. His song with Newsboys, 'God's Not Dead,' became a MAGA fixture. The 2011 song's popularity emerged during the conservative evangelical resistance to Barack Obama's presidency. Tait is credited with helping to connect Trump to white evangelical voters, who played a significant role in his 2016 election. During the 2016 election cycle, Tait, invited by Trump's friend Pastor Paula White, was among a group of Christians who prayed over Trump before a Florida campaign stop. Newsboys also notably performed for Trump at the White House in 2019. 'I love you, I support you, and I'm one of the growing number of African Americans who love you,' Tait once told Trump during a 2019 video expressing his support for Trump's prison reform policies. According to The Guardian, Tait is accused of engaging in a pattern of manipulative and abusive behavior with young male musicians in the early 2000s. Some of the alleged victims claim Tait offered the 'possibility of career or artistic opportunities.' When some men rebuffed him, Tait allegedly cut off all contact with them. The singer is accused of hosting parties at his home in Nashville, where he would encourage the men to drink alcohol and use drugs before he allegedly made sexual advances. At least two men said they were secretly drugged and were left in and out of consciousness, and were unable to consent to sexual acts. The alleged male victims claim Tait touched them without their permission. In his 'Confession,' Tait admits to once drinking 'far too much alcohol' and touching men in 'an unwanted sensual way.' He revealed that in early January, he spent six weeks in a Utah treatment center for his cocaine abuse and has been sober for six months. The Christian artist said he was 'ashamed' for living a double life and lying to his family, friends and fans. 'I have hurt so many people in so many ways, and I will live with that shameful reality for the rest of my life,' he wrote. 'I accept the consequences of my sin and am committed to continuing the hard work of repentance and healing work.'
